Busy, hectic, fascinating. Worth getting a good guide. We had a guide through the tour rep who took us through the medina and the souks and helped us to negotiate prices. Don't take photos of anyone without asking permission first and be prepared to pay a few dirhams formthe privilege.

“Great fun”
Reviewed April 2, 2014

Full of interest with lots to see. Smaller that Fez and cleaner and without hassle. The square is great fun day and night with a very good atmosphere. Plenty of cafes for people watching. We did not find traders in the souks to be a nuisance. If you are polite and just say 'no thank you' (better in French) they do not pester. They are polite people and deserve the same.

“Where is Indiana Jones?”

This is a place to visit more than once. The first time you go, don't bring either your camera or your wallet. Just walk and gape.Let your imagination take you in a time warp. It is truly a place that will overload your senses with an overarching cacophony of stuff you will never have experienced before.

“Beware of the scooters”
Reviewed April 2, 2014

The Medina in Marrakach is well worth a visit.

The "shops" are varied and interesting and best of all, you hardly get hassled. The people are friendly and generally courteous but much more pleasant than many places we have been to around the world.

You will always get people who want to sell you something, just ignore them and they are not too pushy. If you are looking for somewhere, they will sometimes offer you advice and will often say "it is closed" and offer to guide you. Do not go with them.

Some "shops" do not like you taking photos of their stall. Perhaps they just want money.

The worst bit is the bikes and scooters. Why do the authorities allow scooters to travel down narrow pedestrian walkways. They come up behind you and for some reason think they have priority. We saw one person get wiped out by a scooter that was going too fast.

It is a really nice atmosphere in the Medina, very special but completely spoilt by the scooters in what should be a pedestrian only area.

“Great experience”
Reviewed March 31, 2014

Having previously been to Tunisia, a few years ago now, and had pushy sellers literally grabbing you and pulling you into their shops I was not sure about how this would go, my wife was definitely worried! However we had no problems at all and really enjoyed the experience. Don't get me wrong this is definitely not for the faint hearted, you have people calling from their shops and you have to constantly dodge motorcycles and bikes, but that's part of the appeal!

Although sellers called to you from their shops, it was not every shop and it was all good natured with "Asda price" being heard regularly. I never felt threatened or at risk from pick pockets, keep your money in a safe pocket and you shouldn't have to worry about that anyway.

There are lots of cafes and restaurants to try, and everyone wants to sit on the roof terrace, so look for a place with empty seats before climbing all those stairs! The sight, sounds and smells of the area was quite amazing and I'd recommend a visit to everyone.
