A whole new experience in shopping. The vendors line the narrow and sometimes ancient alley ways. Always bargain do not just pay the first price, offer 50% and then start bargaining. Always ask a vendor if you may take a photograph of his wares.

I was immersed in a blend of the sights, sounds, and aromas of the souk as I navigated my way along the narrow passages, further occluded by pedestrians and donkeys. All sorts of iconic metalware and leather goods and rugs were for sale. Every price was negotiable. Indeed, only fools paid the merchant's initial price. Haggling brought the sale price down to less than half of what was initially demanded. The merchants all seemed to speak several languages, of necessity, including English, French, German, Spanish, and, of course, Arabic. I came away with an incised brass plate to hang on a wall and a camel-skin hassock to use as a footrest. There were all kinds of food stalls, but I didn't feel adventurous enough to roll the dice on a souk version of Montezuna's revenge.

An experience not to be missed.

hustle and bustle of morocco at it's best!
great choices of all wares and be careful of the prices. whatever they ask for, cut it in half and use this as your starting point. it is all part of the charm to barter and negotiate.
the square beside the souk is very interesting at night with food outlets serving local delicacies.

So many interesting sights to see. The main square is very busy and expensive and less interesting than the main souk.

especially liked the local shoes, slippers, and spices for sale.. watch your haggling... bid a lot lower than you dare.. and stand your ground
