Fantastic atmosphere day or night. Do try a horse drawn carriage ride . An excellent way to take pictures without being asked for cash at every snap. Be prepared for visit to usual haunts, e.g herbalist , leather shop, but very enjoyable and great way to see the city.

“Great cultural experience!!”

Bring extra cash for shopping. Bought a beautiful tea set and Moroccan mint tea. Marrakech is generally abit pricey. Even though the currency us low they sure do bump up the prices. £9 for chips, cheese burger and spirit.

“Its Wild”
Reviewed January 23, 2014

If you want to see Marrakech at its most exuberant then there is no other place to go. This is the main square and it has everything from food stalls, orange juice sellers, snake charmers, music, monkeys (watch out for photographers passing the monkey to you), false teeth sellers (what!), flower sellers and lots of things just happening. You can't miss this place!!!!

“The magic is the people”
Reviewed January 22, 2014

A huge square. Full of little kiosks, stalls, cafes and some restaurants, and very close to the Medina of the city, with a big mosque in one end.
The magic of this place is not the architecture, or beautiful buildings or some tourist-oriented feature, so do not expect that or you could be a bit disappointed, as other reviewers were.
The beautiful part here is that you get to see the real people of Marrakesh, it's them enjoying the place. Very specially at sunset (great photo opportunity from the Cafe Francais in one of the sides of the square!), and late at night.
People here are proud to use their traditional clothing and it can be quite striking until you get used to it, specially in winter when the djellabas (long robes with a huge hood) are out - you really feel like travelling back in time.
And then the families coming to the square for a quick snack, or some real food (there are great food stalls) or a coffee, or for a walk between the marrakeshi music, or go through the square on their way towards the medina alleys and tiny stalls. Thousands and thousands of people, mostly locals. The smells of the myriad stalls, spices, exotic fruits, strange things like cigarette sellers that sell cigarettes by the unit, or a man with a bathroom scale checking your weight for just one diram.
Life is lived and enjoyed in a different way over here and this is what you get to see in this mythic square.
