Nice trip to koutoubia and minaret. Some good pictures taken, colourful and interesting history. Be careful though walking on these tours as traffic pretty awful and bikes, cars, donkeys, horses, camels etc are liable to knock you down.shame we could not go into the mosques but hearing the call to prayers was actually very peaceful.

This oldest mosque in Marrakech and its minaret are located at the western side of Jemaael Fna square and if you get dropped off to the square by taxi then it's likely this will be right there beside you. The minaret is an impressive structure being the tallest building in the city and a focal point should you get lost. Walking around the mosque is interesting, seeing the ruins to the east and also the gardens to the west but access into the mosque is restricted for non muslims. It is impressive during the day and better during the night when it is lit up. Well worth a visit to take in the minaret's beauty.

Well, as per the guide informs this is the oldest mosque in Marrakech. It is stunning to see from miles away and the weight of gold on the top of the minaret is unbelievable. The call is made from a very old man who still climbs over 70 steps 5 times a day!

The minaret is an eye catcher being the tallest edifice in the city. The floodlit view at night is best, especially from a distance. The gardens and the ruins left behind the mosque are interesting. The ancient story of the mosque being out of alignment with Mecca is a good one. The first mosque was 5 degrees off so they built a second mosque which turned out to be 10 degrees off. The prayerful simply adjust there positions inside. The history of a place is sometimes better than the place. We non-Muslims, understandably, could not enter.
