A lovely mosque, we didnt go inside but there are grounds around the mosque. its right next to the main square so it soon became a familiar sight for us.

We were lucky as we bumped into the Qari/muazzanin (mosque prayer announcer), and being muslim we were allowed to go inside to the top of the minaret and saw amazing views and learnt some history of the mosque. The building is surrounded by nice gardens to relax in.
The orange trees growing in the adjacent garden are very sour, not for eating raw.

Easy to navigate around Marrakech using Katoubia as your mark. It's the tallest building (by law no others may be built higher).

Koutoubia itself is not open to non-Muslims, but you can enjoy its atmosphere in the late afternoon when people come to hang out on the benches of its garden. The view of the minaret from here is great.

It is the most important monument of Marrakesh. If you go to Marrakesh it will be virtually impossible not to visit this mosque, I mean visit the surrounding area of the mosque, since non muslims are not allowed to go inside the mosques.

It would not be worth a visit on its own, but since it is part of the whole Marrakesh package you will visit it, but is nothing compared to the big mosques in Cairo or Alexandria which you are permitted to visit and stay inside for as long as you want.

The rating is tree points with reservations.
