“Mixed feelings”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2007

Have just returned from a 4 night stay at this hotel and have very mixed feelings about the place.

We had a mini suite (room 170) and it was lovely, having a seperate sitting room and further seating area on a balcony which overlooked a small pool ( didnt go in it as it was so dirty) a bathroom so big that you could have a party in it, 2 40inch flat screen tvs, complimentary fruit basket, water and toiletries

The down side is the sheer lack of service, we had to wait upon arrival almost 3 hours because our room hadnt been serviced, the breakfast lacks variety, bread always stale, coffee always cold.

Although the hotel has 4 restaurants their menus are bland, the staff on the reception area are constantly overcharging, we were overcharged on 2 occasions for room service and bar bills and on departure having settled our final bill the previous day they tried to charge us again and became very rude and intimidating with no offer of an apology

Although the hotel is a delight to look at especially at night when it turns into a fairy tale setting with all the lanterns it lacks atmosphere being very morose and sombre.

I certainly will not be returning to Marrakech (hated it) but if you put this hotel in another city not sure if I would book again

Just returned on Saturday from Marrakech after a really relaxing 5 night break at Le Jardins de La Koutoubia. The location cannot be faulted, just yards away from the square and everything that goes with it !! Our mini suite - room number 50 - was superb. This was on the ground floor and tucked away into a corner looking out on to a small patio area and only steps away from the exclusive pool for that area. The main pool is lovely, but we preferred the quiet of the pool beside the room, infact we were usually the only people in it. The terrace for the room was a welcome retreat from the hustle and bustle of the square and furnished with a group of comfy chairs looking on to the Koutoubia minaret....no need to set your alarm for an early wake up call !!! We enjoyed the food and ate in each restaraunt - the indian on the roof terrace was excellent as was the morrocan, french and the international which we ate in twice. We also had the Hamman which was good, the spa is undergoing some work at the present which will extend it quite a bit. the pool in the spa is stunning and very relaxing. I also had a massage which again was excellent. We have now been to Marrakech twice and cannot wait to go back. All in all an excellent time was had.

As mentioned previously the location simply cannot be beaten and was a welcome refuge at the end of each day exploring the sites, sounds and smells of Marrakkech. Service was mixed but overall pretty decent - a few room service orders got mixed up but always delivered with a smile. Pool and spa were great although they could do with cranking up the air conditioning in the gym. Room was fairly ordinary but comfortable enough. Biggest complaint was the noise. I was on the second floor but the noise from upstairs was ridiculously loud. I think the hotel perhaps hasn't been built as solidly as one would expect. Food decent enough and I thought reasonably priced. Would stay here again.

Superb location - Jemma El Fna is literally 2mins walk. We could see the Koutoubia minaret from our balcony.

Hotel was excellent. Service very helpful, room clean and very tastefully decorated. Food in the restuarants was good although expensive. That is to be expected really, considering the location.

Facilities in the hotel wer good, the pool and roof terraces, gardens and lobby were all well maintained and attractive. For me though the main draw was how close to all the action we were.

This hotel is great. My wife and I stayed for x 4 nights from 5th July 2007. We had a standard room and just relaxed by the pool in the main. The hotel arranged our collection from the airport (200 DIH each way for x 2 passengers), this is about £12GBP each direction. Frankly this is a bargain, as I for one can't be bothered with haggling with a taxi driver after a flight. We had no issues with the accommodation or staff. Our room was a standard double, a mini suite would be nice, but our room overlooked the main courtyard which contains the excellent swimming pool and sun loungers. Be quick to grab a sun lounger in the morning (I would recommend those closest to reception on the restaurant side for the longest afternoon sun) as there can be a shortage of beds depending on occupancy levels.
The hotel is the process of building a roof top pool, this I think would be ready mid August 2007. This will be a great addition as there will be "longer" sun until perhaps 7pm. This new roof pool, by the excellent Indian restaurant, will increase the number of pools to x 4, the people from Clarins are a bit stuffy about using the one in the spa unless you have a treatment, but you can "blag" your way in for a quick dip. Food is great in the hotel, not overly expensive, breakfast is of good quality, and an outdoor table adds to the occasion. I would recommed eating out on at least a few occasions. We ate at La Foundouk (get a roof terrace table) and Da Moha (get a poolside table). Both offer good food and service / atmosphere.
The only sites we saw where: 1) Jemaa el Fna square, which incidentally is about 3 minutes on foot from the hotels front door, and 2) Majorelle Gardens about a 10 min taxi - do not pay more than 20 DIH each way for x 2 passengers.
The worst thing about this holiday was the air line - Altas Blue. Make sure you eat well before getting on, the catering is a joke and needs to be paid for.
Book this property - it is great for an romantic "get away" - I did not see one resident under 20 year of age, so no kids to wind you up and ruin the relaxation.

quite the best location, amazing that a doorway leads from such chaos, noise ,smells& scruffiness into such an oasis of civilisation and calm and tranquility (well nearly ) great undergound spa
Our small room (218)was on 2nd floor and overlooked the pool however we were under the restaurant and could hear people walking around above us and moving chairs etc.
The only down side was that our travel agent did not tell us that the 3rd floor terrace is being rebuilt, there is a pool up there that in basically out of action as is a storage area for builders rubble, the walkway is an obstacle course of cement pools and hoses, the lift is used by the builders to transport their materials. We sat by the downstairs pool to the dulsit tones of hammers, drills and grinders.Check this out before you go, it spoilt our relaxing time by the pool.

Ok, it is not a riad, however is a very good hotel. We spent 5 nights during Easter period. No issues about services: the staff was always very helpful and prompt. Very clean and huge room. We got a new patio room looking at a new courtyard (by the way very nice). The room (n.156) was very roomy, clean with a flat screen TV, huge bathroom and a wonderful terrace (I would say the best one of the hotel). Only issue is the noise from the hallway and the from the stairs which are close to the room. The hotel s really an oasis in the chaos of the medina. It is a few steps from the place Jemaa el F'naa (this is really a bizarre place), however when you enter in the hotel you find calm and peace. The pool is nice with many sunbeds (please don't take places hours in advance with towels, it's a shame!); the water is very cold! We took dinner 3 times in hotel in different restaurants (Moroccan, Indian, grill): quality, service, choice very good. Prices quite above average. If back to Marrakech I would try to stay in a riad (payoing attention to the selection in term of quality and location), however this hotel in a very good choice as price, quality, location (that cannot be better!). Reccommended.
