“large room, swimming pool”
Reviewed October 4, 2013

1st night was rather noisy as there was a singing session by the pool. This hotel is not in the city center or near the medina. Bus or taxi is needed. Not ideal location. The TV - it is good only for business travelers who know French or Arabic - only 1 BBC channel is English. Changing money is impossible in the hotel. The whole 3 days I was there, I was told the next day everyday. Restaurant lacked of staff. Wi-fi is only good at the Lobby. In the room, it is bad.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the pool - able to hear children's voices. Rooms facing the garden - quieter.

Stayed here with a group, after a trek to Atlas mountains, and first reaction was of a lovely pool side, relaxing way to end trip. Terrible storm flooded our room, now we can't control the weather but we were distressed on finding our room and clothes soaked in 6".The staff had no idea of what were empty rooms, no sense of urgency in finding us a different room, we had to wait nearly an hour to be re-roomed in which time I suggested to reception that a drink "on the house" would go someway to while the time (bedtime!!) waiting sitting on the end of a bed in soaked clothes/hair as we had to vacate by walking across the court yard as the corridors were under 6" of water- but No we were made to walk outside . we were show to 3 other rooms that were either occupied or swimming in water, 4 rooms later we settled in our PJs tired - by this time it was too late to inform reception there were no bed sheets etc so we layed on the bed listening to incessant noise from an AHU - no sleep. The next morning we requested a new room,- not a problem we were told, staff would move our luggage if we packed our things up again! and left them - wet clothes still in a plastic bag, now starting to smell. We had a fantastic day out in the Souks. when we returned to the Hotel the Reception staff had no idea where our Luggage went...so after I accompanied a porter to several rooms including the one we last stayed in- I suggested to the Reception desk that again it would be a small way to make up for our inconvenience that we take a drink from the Bar "on the house" whilst we sat waiting for our Luggage/room to be found- and not enjoying the lovely pool as we had anticipated. The next morning on check out there was quite a scene as the reception and Hotel manager insisted I pay for the drinks- even though I had written on the Bill the reason for taking the drink- It was very clear. They were rude, making out I had tried to con them out of drinks. Because we were in a group I felt pressured into paying so I would hold up the group departure. it caused quite a scene and I was made to feel like I was a criminal. Not once did a member of staff ask if we were ok, if we needed our wet clothes dried, my hair dryer got wet and being electrical didn't work the following day. the porters broke the wheel from my case- after it was being dragged/thrown around from room to room. Others in the group also reported "being charged around £28 for 4 bottles of water" Also there appears to be a drinks scam going on, most good Hotels use a room billing system when it's late so after cashing up, its more convenient to charge to the room- not here the waiters insist on charging "cash" and 10Dh more than the drink was earlier in the evening- so they could pocket the 10Dh difference!! We were a group of 17- so the total bar bill was considerable- any other Hotel would have apologised for any inconvenience and written the total bill off- especially as it was made clear by the Tour leader that his company would NOT be using this hotel ever again. I want to make it clear the dining room staff were lovely, the food was good, but to be treated like a criminal - and not to get an apology, bearing in mind we both had wet smelling clothes to take back, a unusable hairdrier, and a damaged case, I wouldn't recommend this Hotel to anyone. If you want to be treated as a client of a 3/4* Hotel do not stay here.

Room Tip: room 222 has an AHU in the ceiling (NOT AIR CON) rooms on the lower floor risk flooding if it rains.

Recently had a fabulous holiday in Marrakech (Sep 2013) at Tichka Hotel. The hotel itself is a little tatty in places; toilet flush knobs missing, sink plug knobs missing. But what it lacks in a little finnese it more than makes up for in its staff. The waiting staff cant do enough for you and although they may not always fully understand what you want they will happily try very hard to accommodate you. They were lovely and I cannot praise them highly enough. The reception staff were also good. The hotel was very clean and our room was always cleaned to a high standard.
The pool area was also fab, with a helpful attendant who supplied towels and would move your sun lounger around for you! I am usually disappointed with the size of hotel pools but this one was large enough to actually swim in, though not huge.
It is a bit of a walk from the Djeema and souks (probably half hour) but the bus is cheap and many petit taxis are available outside the hotel itself, as its in a small complex of hotels.
The food was lovely, though dinner was a bit more expensive than going elsewhere but that's to be expected in a hotel.
The only thing we'd rather they hadn't bothered with was some of the entertainment in the evening - it wasn't bad exactly, just not our cup of tea. Often had a duo singing middle of the road stuff but it didn't go on late and certainly didn't spoil our enjoyment of an evening dining by the pool.
Can't comment on the hammam cos I managed to get a bit sunburnt on first day so avoided it!
Overall lovely hotel, fantastic and friendly staff.

My girlfriend and I stayed at Tichka Hotel between the 29th of June and 5th of July. Over all we gave the hotel a rating of ‘good’. Here are a list of our ‘likes’ and ‘dislikes’ about the hotel, which we hope you will find useful;

Likes
1. Lovely garden/pool area; very peaceful beautiful area around the pool to relax. The pool was very sizable and had areas to sit and comfortably relax in the water. The pool area definitely lived up to our expectations.

2. Room; the design felt modern, and the en-suite bathroom was big and comfortable

3. Hotel staff in the restaurant; one gentleman in particular was particularly helpful in bringing us a bucket of ice to keep our water cool whilst we relaxed by the pool (although I think the tip we gave helped!)

4. Breakfast; choice of food was very good (in particular the freshly make pancakes). The fresh orange juice and outside sitting area were two particularly good perks for us. Again, the breakfast lived up to our expectations!

5. Moving rooms; the first room we were given had two single beds, but when asking to move, they were very helpful and gave us a room with one double bed.

Dislikes
1. Cockroach in our bathroom (only one occasion); finding a cockroach in your bathroom is never a pleasant experience, nonetheless, we did feel that credit must be given to the cleaners who kept our room clean daily.

2. Location; based on our reading of other reviews, we got the impression that it was possible to walk from Tichka Hotel to the souks/market area in 20min. This was not true, despite being both in our early twenties and quite fit. The cheap cabs (the Fiat cars – the Mercedes cars are double the fair) to the market could be haggled to 25-30Dh (although they will ask for 40-50dh first) and took roughly 15minutes from the hotel; but be aware, they drive like crazy men and in their battered old cars, are not the safest option. The bus is cheap (4dh per person) and definitely the safest option – it is fairly regular (every 15min?) from just outside hotel, but is very hot, sweaty, and double the cab journey time. We therefore got the Fiat cabs most of the time.

3. Pool staff; there were two men helping at the pool. We found neither to be helpful or friendly.

4. Only 4 umbrellas at the pool. Although there are plenty of areas you can move your bed to in order to get shade, this is by far the ideal solution – Tichka, buy more umbrellas!

5. Overpricing of the hotel; a big bottle of water at the hotel was 20Dh, which was pretty extortionate compared to the prices at a local supermarket (36Dh for a pack of 6 big bottles) – but i guess this is to be expected. What we didn’t expect was the hotel to charged us 25Dh for a local two minute phone call which we required to make in order to confirm one of our trips we booked online.

6. Room appliances not working; our lights in our room only worked randomly, and the safe kept breaking. Despite this being annoying, we quite easily found our way around these problems.

stayed one night and could not wait to get out of there, dirty, grimy, run-down, dingy rooms and building. walls, carpet and bathroom dirty. bed was made but just about and looked like they had folded the sheets back from previous occupant as it was messily made. from a distance everything looks ok but was not for us at all. I would hate to have had to stay here for a whole holiday we just stopped off a night before taking an early morning return flight out of Marrakech. It was cheap at £70 a night but it is Morocco we're talking about and in Europe you would actually get a decent hotel at a much higher standard for that price. 3 stars flatters it. wouldn't stay here again or recommend anyone else to

Im surprised by some of the negative reviews. My son and I stayed here a week - it was in a great position 10mins outside the city centre (£2 taxi ride) so quiet which was a relief from the crowds of the city. The hotel was beautiful, with lovely gardens filled with lovely flowers, a great pool and outdoor dining area. The staff were lovely and helpful (when i needed a plug adapter a member of staff popped to the shops to get me one - no extra charge!). The food was great - amazing breakfast buffet, best coffee ever and as much as you wanted. As we were staying half board we could then choose either a 3 course lunch or dinner - always loads to choose from, and delicious! It was in easy walking distance of the New Town and local shops......the hotel really made our holiday, i would highly recommend it!

Room Tip: We chose a garden room which had a lovely balcony overlooking the garden,

We did not choose this hotel since it came as part of a tour of Marrakech. This is a 3 star hotel but we would not recommend it to anyone. It's location is a 20 minute walk to the centre of the New Town and 40 minutes walk to the Medina so assume taxis on a hot day to do anything. It was possibly very good once but its faded grandeur has all but disappeared.

From the first minutes we felt not as valued guests but as a nuisance to the staff (room staff excepted) who only stopped what they were doing to help us if there was a tip involved. We were shown to our 'excellent' room overlooking the pool but which was shabby and tired. (Note that live music around the pool finishes at 22:30 each night.) The air conditioning did not work, the carpet was dirty and everything had the look and feel of being worn out. When we asked for a card for the safe in the wardrobe we were told that there was a fee of £2 per night - we declined. There was nothing welcoming in the room or anything else for that matter - no tea / coffee, water, not even a menu for the restaurant, nothing in the fridge either. The towels were old and there were no face flannels.

Some reviewers have praised the buffet breakfast but we had the opposite experience. It is 100% self service including instant coffee out of a vending machine or a few lone tea bags, the ancient 6-slice toaster has only one element working, the crepes were swimming in oil and one day there were no cups, glasses or plates and no staff either. We did not try the restaurant for this reason.

Lastly, take care getting in and out of the bath / shower which are dangerous when wet. My wife slipped and severely bruised her leg but which could have been far far worse.

Room Tip: Pick another hotel!
