“Excellent value for money, we would definitely visit again”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 15, 2011

We booked a 5 night stay at the hotel through a Groupon deal with EasyJet Holidays. Overall the hotel is excellent value for money and we wouldn’t hesitate to return again if the same deal came up again.

The hotel is located on the Avenue de la Menara which is a short taxi ride from the centre of Marrakech. We felt the hotel was ideally positioned, being close enough to walk to the centre (on cool evenings we were able to walk to the Place Jemaa el Fna in around 25 minutes) but being far away enough from the hustle and bustle of the main square so that you can relax by the pool in relative tranquillity.

Our room was large, clean and generally well appointed. The bathroom was also a good size and had a separate bathroom. Satellite TV was very handy for those moments when we wanted to chill out (literally) in our room after a day in the heat. The housekeeping was spot on too, although they were late one day.

We ate breakfast on the terrace by the swimming pool each morning. The buffet was simple but well stocked. The mint tea was excellent although not available on all days. We chose to eat in the centre of Marrakech as opposed to the hotel during evenings so didn’t sample the many restaurants the hotel offered. We bought water from the bar and noted that it was far more expensive than if bought elsewhere, which is to be expected.

The onsite facilities were good. We used the larger of the two main swimming pools each day. The pool was big and had a range of depths making it equally good for serious swimming or general cavorting. Helpfully there were sunshades dotted around the pool area so you could escape the heat if necessary.

The public areas of the hotel were well maintained, and there seemed to be a small army of staff tidying up the communal areas each day. The main reception was very impressive with marble floors, deep rugs and leather sofas. The hotel also has a small shop which was handy for snacks; the prices were reasonable.

The hotel was obviously built to a high quality but does not appear to have been refurbished since it has been opened. This didn’t detract from the experience in any way and for the price the hotel was brilliant. It’s worth noting that the Hotel Albatros’ 5 star rating is not the same 5 star rating that applies to a famous 5 star hotel nearby.

We found the staff on the front desk helpful and they assisted us with booking various day trips and other activities. Moroccans (or in fact other non-British tourists) have no idea how to queue which could be particularly frustrating when waiting for assistance. However, we found politeness and being courteous meant you were helped quickly. We saw many other guests being exceptionally rude to reception staff and receiving the same treatment back, which in our opinion is fair enough. This is a foreign country and it is ridiculous to assume everything will be the same as in Britain. We found that smiling and making the smallest attempt to speak French got us a long way.

In relation to taxi prices, barter to pay 20 dirhams each way to and from the Medina during the day and 30-40 dirhams in the evening - make sure you get a petit taxi as grand taxis will demand more and aren't any better (although they are bigger so may be necessary if you’re travelling in large numbers)! Airport taxis are more expensive, we paid 110 dirhams to get to the hotel (2 people in a grand taxi with 1 large and 2 smaller bags). Going from the hotel to the airport you will likely be doing well if you pay under 100 dirhams – you’re more or less a captive audience in both directions!

Staying at the Hotel Albatros allowed us to combine two types of holiday relatively seamlessly: (1) an oftentimes frenetic journey into a culture that is totally different from home and (2) a relaxed, pool-side holiday where you can sun-bathe and read a good book.

Overall this was a pleasant hotel in a good location, with decent amenities and we would definitely visit again.

Room Tip: Get a room above ground floor and towards the back of the hotel for more privacy.

we have been in a trip to imperial city s of marocco. and we spent 3 days in this hotel. It was the best hotel from all our trip. Fast check in, clean room, and we loved the big pool. The pool was very clean, and we love the cocktails from the pool bar. We had only half board. The food was very good and the restaurant was very clean, we loved so much the sweets and the chicken in lemon sauce They also have an oriental restaurant where you can smoke sisha. If you want to have fun you can go tothe disco very nice music and athmosphere. Before we left we spoke at the reception to give us a good rate for 2 weeks next year. Maybe next year we will spent a 2 week vacation in Marakech. For sure if you are lucky to be accomodated in this hotel you will not regret.

Room Tip: the room was clean every day, and the bathroom was very clean - evrything look nice and we also rece...

We were put in this hotel after a cancelled easyjet flight and with hindsight would have rather slept on the floor at the airport.
Staff were rude; food was terrible; rooms dirty.
The room was big, and overlooked the pool - which meant we could see that all sunbeds had been 'reserved' by the time the sun came up! We arrived at our room to see room service plates in the corridor. When we left 18 hours later, the same plates were still there.
There was a constant long queue of people at reception who were dissatisfied with one aspect or another.
We had no towels in our room - but these were provided after 3 requests to reception.
The food was terrible - the hotel is not far from the main square, which must be visited to get some sort of insight into Moroccan life. You should eat there! Apart from the weather, this hotel could be anywhere in the world - very large and very impersonal.
We wouldn't wish this hotel on anyone - if you were paying for a 2* hotel, you might be pleasantly surprised, but this hotel is anything but 5*. Avoid at all costs!

Room Tip: Stay in a riad!

for the money we paid this was great:

Pros;
1. Great weather
2. No mosquitoes or bugs :)
3. Big clean room ( in refurbed half)
4. Food good for all inclusive
(haggle and get yourself invited to the Asiatic Restaurant, it's much better)
5. Pool clean

Cons;
1. No much to do (although there are trips)
2. No enough sun loungers, make do with the grass
3. General maintenance is African style
4. No abundantly clear what you get and what is optional
5. You have to be nice and haggle to make the best of the place

We stayed at the albatross club, which is the albatross gardens, it is all part of the same hotel. The albatross club is all inclusive whereas the gardens is bed and breakfast or half board.

Hotel, pool and rooms are generally nice. Couldnt complain about cleanliness.

Food was terrible, tasteless, the same thing every day and night, always luke warm, never hot and occasionally uncooked.

Staff was rude and constantly question how many people your drinks were for if you ordered more than one, even if they were for other people- it is all inclusive so it should not matter if you want one or two.

Would not return to the hotel.

Rooms were great though it took a bity of nagging to get the air con fixed. Towels were intermittent and loo paper had to be begged for. Swimming towels were also a challenge - it took two days of trying before we obtained these. There was the usual problem with sunbeds ie get up at 4.00am with armfuls of towels (not possible without the aforementioned towels. Felt like the staff hated us - but actually I can't blame them. The Brits are spoilt, get drunk and smash places up - not me you understand but it is there on the internet for the world to see - no denying it.When I couldn't sleep it was because drunk Brits were keeping me awake. However - it is cheap and you get what you pay for.

Room Tip: It was useful being on the ground floor - could easily nip out to the pool and grab sunbeds!

My Fiance and I only stayed here because our flight back was canceled and the flight company put us here. The rooms were big yes and once upon a time they must have been very beautiful. Our specific room was big- two big beds- air con was just shooting out air- no cold air coming through( this is not great in Moroccan Heat), found a dead roach on our floor, bathroom shower didnt work properly and was leaking everywhere not to mention the water was pure BROWN. The toilet room had a mirror that opened to some "escape shaft" which rattled all night long. The fridge they had in the room didnt work- pool was big yes but chlorine was very strong, the grids around the poor needed up keeping-they were not safe-which was proven by some lady having her foot sink into one of them and injuring herself. Food was not good- there was wild life picking at the food and some of it was not well cooked. My Fiance and I did get sick we are almost certain it was from some of the food we had here since we both nibbled on the same thing. Location is not to bad- it isnt walking distance to the square which is really the place to be! The hotel is huge- maybe some other parts of the hotel are better, but as for me- i will never stay here and am certainly happy i didnt stay here during my actual trip. I stayed at a raid which was much nicer, with better quality of service and food!
