Ibis Marrakech Centre Gare

I've stayed here three times when driving south through Morocco. If you are looking for a pleasant, reasonably priced no-surprise hotel within easy walking distance of all the Marrakech sites, this is the place. The only (slightly) negative is that I first picked this hotel as it had a private, secure car park. This is now under the (fabulous!) new railway station. So parking is now outside the hotel in what used to be the forecourt of the old station. Although not in an enclosed courtyard, there is a "guardian" who will watch your vehicle and I have never had any worries about that. On my first visit, I was part of a large group - 20-plus people - and, being in party mood, we drank ALL the beer in the hotel! They don't seem to have a huge stock! :-) Breakfast is a very good buffet style affair.

This Ibis is comfortable and clean. The location is very convenient, right beside the centre gare and close enough to the new town. The pool is nice and clean, which is essential during the height of summer in Marrakech. The rooms are small but the beds are comfortable so I didn't really mind because of the price of them. All-in-all it didn't have much character but it did the job!

We stayed 1 night at the Ibis Marrakech after a 16 hour, hot travel day from Sevilla Spain. The location of the hotel could not be better -- just right outside the train station. We arrived at midnight on a day when temperatures exceeded 100 degrees, and were thrilled to see that the pool was open -- the pool is nice, large and a comfortable cool temperature, surrounded by an inviting grassy area and comfortable lounge chairs.

The room itself was o.k. It felt cheap (night tables attached to the walls rather than separate pieces of furniture, etc.), but was clean enough. The bed was a good size and comfortable. Seemed a little weird that there was no top-sheet on the bed -- just the fitted sheet and a duvet. Do they change the duvet cover in between each guest?

The carpet in the room was very cheap, and had a sticky feel to it (from cheap fibers, not from anything being spilled on it.) That gave me the creeps and for that reason I was ready to leave after 1 night.

The common areas were nice (3 computers available for guest use), and breakfast was good.

This hotel is great for a short stay in Marrakech, the rooms are spacious enough and the beds are very comfortable. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful, one of the warmest welcomes you could wish for! On the downside; the swimming pool isn't heated and is always empty. There is the option to have your breakfast al fresco as there are many seats outside and around the pool. The breakfast buffet though is very poor. I would definately reccomend having breakfast in Jama el Fna or on one of the nearby busier streets.
The location is ideal for the Marrakech Centre Gare train station and is also right next to the Supratours Bus Station where you can catch a bus to the likes of Essaouira, Casablanca or Ouzoud. You can walk to Jama el Fna in around 30mins, Jardin Majorelle 30mins. During my stay I found that the best and most hassle-free way to see Marrakech is to use the open top double decker sightseeing bus. It's especially convenient for going to and from Jama el fna in a way which helps avoiding rip off taxi's. It tours the whole city and even ventures out to the leafy outskirts where you get great views of the mountains. There is a stop 50 yards from the Ibis Hotel. It's definately worth a try; http://alsa.nejmatech.com/

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the mountains

I found Ibis Marrakech is convenient in term of location and room condition. The location is not far from city center and walking few steps from train station. The room is small and clean. Everything is decent / standard but worth with money you paid. I was happy with room, service but mostly the location of hotel if you are traveller who likes move from one city to another city in Maroco.

If you are just passing through Marrakesh, the Ibis is 200m from the railway station. The rooms are clean and fresh, more than adequate. Unlike most budget hotels it has a super pool in lush gardens with peacocks! There is a high wall round the garden (next to the restaurant - leave time for a leisurely breakfast and swim as its wonderful to be in the centre of a hot and bustling city, relaxing in tranquil surroundingd

Room Tip: At the back would be quieter, though ours was right next to the front door and we were not disturbed...

The hotel is situated on the main road next to the railway station about 3 maybe 4 km away from the centre of the city. The trains actually don't cause much disturbance as the first is at 5 am and the last at 9 pm.

We had an adequate twin room overlooking the hotel garden and station. The rooms are basically decorated with enough storage (just) for the five nights we were staying. The beds are reasonable and the bathroom, whilst small, has all you need with a fairly powerful and spacious shower (no bath).

Television is also provided with mainly French/Arabic stations plus BBC world News and Euro news in English. However the decor is a bit tired, the carpet a bit threadbare and the lighting not great.

Housekeeping is a bit hit and miss, although they do respect the "do not disturb" signs. The towels which are rationed to one basic bath towel per person are paper-thin, so need replacing daily.

As part of the tour group we had the option to pay an evening meal supplement in advance which we did. This entitled us to a choice of salad soup (vegetable every day) to start, one main, and desert (ice cream or one piece of fruit). The à la carte menu seems reasonably priced so probably best to skip the prepaid deal, and have more choice.

Service at the hotel was fairly inconsistent, one man on reception was particularly helpful, but there are no porters/bellboys, so when we needed towels (as they were not provided twice) the security guard had to get them for us.The reception sseemed understaffed when coach parties arrived.

One of the waiters (head waiter?) was very attentive at first, but his enthusiasm waned later in the week. On our last night it seemed that the regular waiting staff were (there were only two) both off, and the two people serving seemed inexperienced to say the least. Interesting that the set meal that night was also awful.

All in all okay for a two night stay I guess, any longer and you'd be best to upgrade to a better hotel. The hotel seems to be a travellers’ inn rather than a base for a week’s holiday.

Room Tip: Try to get a second or third floor room at the back, it overlooks the pool and railwaiy station but...
