“Beautiful, peaceful riad at good location”
Reviewed February 3, 2014

Beautiful and peaceful riad a few minutes walk from the sqare. Beautiful rooms, very clean and nice beds. Breakfast is very good even if the coffee could be better... The place is magic by night with many candles. Many riads can be resonsive because of thin doors towards the garden, and so is also this, but people genrerally spoke quitely so we where never disturbed by noice. The staff is very helpful and kind in all ways. The only thing we didn´t like was the music, mostly the same track, played again and again, but the staff turned it of when we asked, so there was not a problem.

Can really recommend this riad, and hope to be able to come back! It´s a great experience, like a fairytail, to stay here.

Room Tip: The Brown room is Beautiful, with entrance right to the pool.

Riad al Loune is a gorgeous riad, restored very beautifully and with very much attention to detail.
The inner patio with the plunge pool is very cozy, it also has a lounge room and is designated for breakfast also. We stayed in the brown room, which is better in real life than in photos, has a lot of space and has a huge bathroom. What I particularly appreciated was the heating of the room, which in January is much appreciated.
The top terraces are simple and have a stunning view of the Atlas mountains (especially at sunset). Staff is helpful with anything you need and breakfast is quite diverse.

2 things to consider when choosing this riad:
The location - it takes about 3 minutes to get there from the closest square and can be a bit challenging to get back to. After 2 says you get the hang of it and on the plus side you can always call someone from the riad to come pick you up, especially at night when there are few people in the street.
In the morning and at night it can be a bit noisy, especially if you have a room on the ground floor as we did. There is a strong echo because of the shape of the building, but this is something which probably happens in many riads.

All in all we had a very pleasant stay and would recommend it.

Room Tip: Choose a room on a superior floor to get more privacy and less noise.

Riad al Loune is located a reasonable walk from Jmaa el Fna and other Marrakech sites. However, taxis are not able to find the nearby small square so returning at night from a restaurant outside of walking range is dicey at best. The riad itself is adequate, though nothing special. Rooms are clean and fairly comfortable but a bit long in the tooth. It is impossible to sleep in as the riad is extremely noisy with the doorbell ringing beginning early morning and the heavy, sliding door closures banging loudly. The potentially best feature is the second level rooftop terrace, not shown us by staff, which is minimally furnished and in part looks like a construction zone. We happened upon this area on a Friday around sunset and the 360 view and sounds of the call to prayer were awesome. Breakfast was adequate consisting of juice, lots of bread, and a bit of chopped fruit. Staff were not always on site or accessible so assistance was not always available when needed. A restaurant that was recommended to us repeatedly was the worst experience of our trip -- rude, dishonest restaurant staff. Overall, Riad al Loune was adequate for our needs but nothing special. Would try elsewhere if we return to Marrakech.

We stayed here for 3 nights and loved it. Unlike a previous review we thought the location of this Riad was part of its appeal. On arrival the location seemed daunting but the staff explained the map and walked with us part way to the square. Once we walked the route ourselves we found it very easy and being slightly hidden from the busy market lanes made it a little oasis to go and relax at when the rest of Marrakech is still busy. The room was beautiful, breakfast was a real treat and the staff very welcoming.

It is difficult to review this riad without discussing its location which proved to be a challenge for my traveling companion and I during our stay. We were doing the usual first time visitor to Marrakech sightseeing thing, but also were attending a conference that required us to be at certain events at certain times all over Marrakech, and which also required us to be a bit dressed up....More on that....

The interior of this riad as the pictures indicate is absolutely beautiful and comes close to everyone's Moroccan fantasy. Each room is unique and nicely decorated. My room was beautiful in fact and I spent some time photographing it.

The managerial staff is warm and very helpful when they are present (which is not always, so be warned....as the other staff is generally not prepared to answer questions in other languages). We were welcomed with the customary green tea and cookies, fruits and nuts, and the breakfasts were always excellent and filling. The managerial staff were very helpful in providing good advice and making certain arrangements.

This riad, like many in the Medinah's interior, is not directly reachable by taxi/auto, so you do have to walk a ways to get to where the taxis are, and this is where we were challenged. Those taxi walks were through some very typical Medinah areas and one must keep one's eye carefully peeled for donkeys, motorscooters, and other pedestrians, some of whom really want to be your "guide" for a price (even when you don't want to engage them for their "services")....Cabs must all be negotiated with and the price stated at the beginning of the ride may not always be the same at the end.....Also, if you are "dressed up", you feel conspicuous, cause most of the folks around you are not.....

If you don't have a set schedule, this location is very convenient for pedestrian-based sightseeing. However, at night particularly, like many places in the Medinah, it is very easy to get lost.....so be sure you have your route planned out carefully, or make prior arrangements to have someone you can trust guide you to your destination by foot...which is something we had to do the first few nights and seemed a bit odd......

This riad's location is generally quiet, though a religious holiday was going on, so there were calls to prayer starting at 5ish in the AM which woke me up, as well as lot of groups of kids going around the streets banging objects together....

With all of the above said, this riad provided great value for the money, as the places that some other friends stayed at were much more expensive and not that superior in what was offered. The staff really went out of their way to be nice to us and that was very much appreciated.

Room Tip: Brown room was beautiful. It is on the main pool level, so if you are not an early riser and a light...

We travelled trough Morocco and we stayed in several places as well in Marrakech. But absolutely we saved the best for last...Besides the pure beautiness of this Riad, the staff was amazing. I work myself in the hospitality industry and I can tell you that these people really understand the meaning of hospitality. We were welcomed with Moroccan tea and some delicious Moroccan snacks. Riad al Loune arranged as well a lovely massage treatment for us and they assisted us with all our night life requests. At the day of check-out my brother and I had several flights so we could storage our luggage and without asking they offered us to use the room until 20:00 P.M. We would like to thank Mohammed and Nassim for all their assistance...please continue with the good work and we really enjoyed our stay!

Unfortunately, we had only one night in this Riad, but this place is absolutely beautiful. The originally conserved architecture and arabic decor of the house is amazing. The rooms are excellently styled (we had the "prune" room on the fabulous roof terrace with a small designated seating area facing the interior patio from 3rd floor view (really great in november, probably too warm in summer…). The staff was absolutely friendly and helpful and added to the welcoming and relaxing feel of the place. Dinner and breakfast were fabulous.

The location seemed to be in an older and very original and nice part of the medina, but we can't really tell, due to the short stay and as we did not have the time to go out.

We can totally recommend this Riad!
