When I arrived in Marrakech, I meant to stay only four days, but had such an amazing time (in many ways because of this hostel) I ended up staying a week. The hostel is beautiful, clean, and comfortable with lots of common space. It was easy to meet other guests to travel or spend the day with. The owners are a married couple, a Moroccan man and American woman who both put me completely at ease, helping find good restaurants and advising fair prices in the souks. Really, they make the hostel what it is, and I'm so grateful to have met such a lovely couple. Breakfast was great, and for the price actually quite big. I loved my stay here and would happily and enthusiastically recommend Mama Marrakech to anyone planning on visiting Morocco.

I travelled to this hostel along with two other friends on a two week trip to Morocco. After quite a journey from Paris, we felt immediately welcomed and put at ease by the owners. Our rooms were always clean, our breakfasts were tasty, filling, and we never waited long to eat. The location of the hostel is perfect for running over to the main square (about 8 mins) or running over to new town (about 12 minutes). There were opportunities for some incredible excursions, and though we did not decide to take advantage of these trips, all those who did returned satisfied with their incredible times. The best part of this hostel though is the atmosphere. My friends and I met many incredible people, the staff included. The other guests became friends who we would go out with, and the staff were full of wonderful tips. Most of all we really felt like the owners opened their hearts as well as their hostel; we were quite sad to leave the hostel, and we will definitely be staying at Hostel Riad Mama Marrakech next time we're in Marrakech.

Room Tip: I really enjoyed the Gnawa Room best, it's right in the center, but all of the rooms are great!

As soon as we arrived, the owners offered us overpriced excursions and offered to get us a taxi to the airport the day we were leaving (which was double the price, probably due to their commission being added to the service). Is it a hostel or agency? We had short time to use the kitchen, which is tiny. Breakfast`s included, but very poor and limited. We had the impression of being unwelcome guests in somebody`s home and felt like they were monitoring everything you do. VERY IMPORTANT - no INTERNET!
The ONLY good thing about this place is the other guests. The layout of the hostel makes it easy to get talking to people.

Room Tip: Try to find another hostel and don`t ask for any information for the owners, as everything is based...

Dear Dave M,

Hostel Riad Mama Marrakech is very sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your experience in our hostel.

To the other readers of Trip advisor, I hope that you consider all the reviews from our clients who have stayed with us….and to Dave, you actually never booked excursions and car services with us, so it is not fair of you to comment on whether something is overpriced not having experienced the service that a client receives. Our services have a flat fee using the reputable agencies that we provide and they set the prices, not us. However there are clients who can actually speak to all each client receives for the price of the excursions and whether it was worth it. We chose these agencies over others that may or may not be less expensive because they can guarantee your safety and give you exactly the service or great time that we want our clients to experience. We explain our services once on arrival and unless the client is interested or considering what we have to offer, we do not mention it again, as you remember. We are a hostel not agency but... we are also a business... so having services to offer our clients never seems to be a problem for most travelers, many prefer not to have to find these kinds of services on their own.

As to the use of the kitchen, Dave you are right, our kitchen is small, so as explained to you on arrival, you may use our kitchen with your spices and food except for the hours our staff is using the kitchen to prepare breakfast for everyone in the hostel or make the fresh baked bread daily that we provide for your breakfast. As most reviews express, our breakfast currently is excellently prepared consisting of unlimited coffee, one omelet, 2 crepes, honey, jam and bread with the omelet is free with your accommodation. If that amount of free food is not enough, our clients are welcomed to buy other things and cook in the kitchen after breakfast is finished and the kitchen is cleaned. In most cases, each client spends less than 9 euros for their stay and breakfast is included. Many hostels charge for breakfast, tea (other than the first complimentary tea), hot showers, towels etc. At Hostel Riad Mama Marrakech we choose to not add additional charges for any of these things.

And finally, as for the Internet, it our choice not to have Internet in the hostel at the moment and nor is it advertised that we have internet. We prefer that our guests spend their time experiencing their vacation and meeting all the great guests from all over the world that come to stay with us. If the internet is important, and understandably so… we have an Internet cafe across the street that cost less than 60 euro cents for one hour of time and a huge free WIFI park just behind the hostel.

In some cases, a place like ours is not for some travelers, we understand that, so I ask the readers and hopefully potential guests to read clearly our accommodations for music loving young spirited traveling adults ages 18 and over, so that each traveler can make the best decision for their vacation. Our desire is that people feel safe and happy here and that happens 98% of the time based on our knowledge of our feedback spoken and written. We know that we can not please everyone, but it does not stop us from trying.

Sincerely,
Crystal Green

We arrived at Riad Mama Marrakech looking like tired, hungry, dirty travelers and left happy, relaxed and content!! Our trauma of a three day mountain climb was well forgotten. We absolutely loved it, had an amazing time, were able to relax downstairs and on the roof terrace and met loads of interesting people.
Crystal, Yusuf and Enrique were great hosts and it was like staying with friends rather than being in a hostel. They were great company and so hospitable. We would all definitely recommend Mama Marrakech even if they have lovingly named us the Motly Crue.
