“1001 Arabian Nights come true”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 2, 2014

Staying at Princesse du Desert was a wonderful experience! We arrived late in the evening and were greeted with a very warm welcome and served mint tea and Moroccan pastries. We felt as if we had stepped into something from the Arabian Nights-the riad was beautiful, better than we had expected. If you want to experience real Moroccan life then book in for their cookery class. We were taken around the vibrant, local markets to buy all the ingredients needed for the class. We were taught by Youssef how to ask for different vegetables in Arabic - really good fun! When we got back we made aubergine salad, lamb tagine and orange with cinnamon for dessert. We also tried the hammam, a must if you've never had it done before. It was so invigorating and your skin feels so soft for days afterwards. A lovely experience and worth going back to Marrakech just to have it done again! Staying at this riad meant we were very close to the souks and Jemaa El Fna square, and you were really living amongst the local people. It was one of our best holidays and would not have been the same if we'd stayed in a huge corporate hotel chain. Part of the exotic experience was having to meander through the labyrinthine maze of alleyways in the Medina. The noise and colour of the stalls was like being in Aladdin's cave. Our hosts made us feel as if we were part of their family-nothing was too much trouble for Youssef, Khadija, Maria, Simone and Abdul. We'd love to go back again!

Room Tip: All the bedrooms are beautiful but choose the four poster bed for romantic stay.

My better half and me arrived late in the night to Marrakesh, sleepy, tired and wondering a bit what our holiday would be like. As prearranged via e-mail with the proprietor, a car was waiting at the airport to take us to the riad. Lovely driver welcomed us and helped us with our luggage and drove us until a square from where a porter took over. You have to bear in mind that medina streets are often incredibly narrow; also, it might be easy for a newcomer to get lost in this maze, so this riad offer was much appreciated.
As we arrived, we met Youssef and Simo, two riad employees. These guys helped us to get settled, offered us some life restoring mint tea, traditional cookies and chatted away our fatigue, both of them such friendly and joyous fellas. As we looked around, we could feel the incredible nest-like riad atmosphere, very warm and friendly. Romantic candlelight inner courtyard, a small fountain, roses on the tables, cozy balconies.. Our room was like a small oriental castle, with its four poster bed, oriental bathroom and furnishings, definitely ideal for couples. Bed might be a tad hard for what Europeans are used to, but both of us slept like babies and woke up each morning refreshed in this quiet riad.
Throughout our stay, Youssef, this charming young man, was helping us with his advice on what to see, how to tackle the mysterious labyrinth of magical Marrakesh streets, giving us insights to Moroccan culture and way of life and was constantly available - wether to organize an excursion if we so wanted or just to chat. We thoroughly enjoyed evening conversations with him and hearing his innate Morrocan wisdom, all the while having our amazing tajine or cuscus dinners under the stars on the riad terrace. You can socialize with other guests or keep to yourself, all options are there.
The house is kept immaculately clean and perfectly fed by two ladies, Hadija and Mari (sorry if it's misspelled), and a language barrier proved not a barrier for their friendlyness. One afternoon they took us to a hammam in their other riad to experience how Morrocans do spa and it was great! Also, guys organized some of us guests to dress up in traditional Morrocan clothes to help one enamourous guest propose to his girlfriend in a special way - amazing!
We felt at home here, and while it is not a luxurious accommodation, we thought it a great value for money and the way everyone was friendly to us deserves at least 6 stars!

I stayed at this wonderful riad in January 2014 and loved everything about it. It’s in a fantastic location right in the middle of the Marrakech medina, close to the souks and Jemaa El Fna – and yet, the riad itself is peaceful and quiet, as it is located down a winding passageway out of the hustle and bustle. It's a beautiful building, with tile mosaics, ironwork, and other craftsmanship throughout; and very intimate, with five guestrooms and a dining room arranged on two stories around a courtyard (and abundant tea!). Wifi and comfortable beds too. Most of all, I cannot say enough good things about Samira, Simo, Khadija, Youssef, and the rest of the staff! They take care of you like family here, right down to the home cooking to your desires at every meal. (Also, if you have a few extra hours, I suggest fitting in a massage and steam bath -- Samira manages a hamam close by, and they'll walk you over there. I did that and really enjoyed it.) The warmest hospitality in such a gorgeous, comfortable setting... I only wish I could have stayed longer.

From the welcome mint tea, to the delicious dinner and breakfast, from the pleasant staff to the comfortable rooms, I wish I could stay longer.
The manager Youssef is a delight, very accommodating, and taught me to play arabic checkers (dama).
The house tagine is amazing, and even organised a birthday party for me (40 years young). The roof terrace is great to take breakfast or dinner.
It is also easy to walk to the main square, and for those interested, Henna Cafe is a 5 minute walk.

Janet and I stayed for 3days from Wed 5 Feb to Sat 8th Feb 2014.
We had breakfast and evening meal s at the Riad and wanted to experience local food (Janet is vegetarian) so asked them to serve whatever they thought best. Excellent food, good wine, and superbly served.

The service from all the staff was good but not intrusive. The whole place has a 'family' feel to it.

There was a minor hick up at the airport when we couldn't find the taxi arranged by the hotel but once contact was established all went smoothly.

A 4hr guided tour of the local souks and workshops etc was cheap (about £35) and superb.

If you realy want an insight into Moroccan life at different levels this is a great way to do it.

Tea and coffee, often accompanied by cakes, was always available at no charge.

In short I thoroughly recommend the experience.

We had the pleasure of spending a part of our honeymoon at the Riad Princess du Desert and were so grateful to have been able to go back for an additional night after a trip into the mountains. The service at this riad beat the service of the "luxury hotels" we stayed in....and for that matter, all other hotels I can remember staying in. The staff was absolutely lovely and warm and took great care of us. Both of our rooms were beautifully decorated, incredibly comfortable, with gorgeous carved moldings and beautifully crafted furniture. The showers were hot & wifi was super. The meals were wonderful. We couldn't get over the ample quantities of food. Our first night I ordered the pastilla and my husband had the beef tagine. The harina that was brought on the first course (which was delicious) would've been enough to satisfy us, and the food just kept coming and coming and coming. The breakfasts were something we miss most about our stay in Marrakech, especially when served on their lovely rooftop...pastries, yogurt, amaaaazing pancakes, fried eggs, fruit, etc. We spent one of our afternoons enjoying a trip to the hammam at the sister riad and were very glad we got to experience that.....and followed it that evening with the lemon chicken tagine at the riad. The riad is perfectly located in the medina and easy to find once you've been there and have a couple of landmarks to follow. We wish we could've stayed longer.

Room Tip: We stayed in rooms both on the ground and second level and our second level room was definitely the...

We stayed at Riad Pincesse du Desert for two nights at the end of a 9 night stay in Morocco and absolutely loved everything about our experience there. The Riad is beautifully restored with exquisite craftsmanship combined with modern comforts (which was not true in some of the other Riads we stayed in Morocco), the food is delicious and prepared by lovely and kind chefs and perhaps best of all are the warm and inviting people who own and run the Riad. It is a family business and when we first entered we were greeted Yousef who told us "we want you to feel as if you are a guest in our house " which by the end of our short stay we amazingly came to feel. Our conversations with he and his cousin Samira and the warm hospitality they extended to us enriched our experience in Morocco in a way a traditional hotel never could . I can't recommend this Riad highly enough and my only regret is that we didn't have more time there. .

Equidistant from the " Jemaa El Fna " and " Door Dar El Bacha " , the location of Riad Princesse du Desert is exceptional especially since it offers beautiful calm and tranquility.
