“Oasis in Marrakech!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 18, 2011

We booked Riad Layla Rouge through HostelBookers and it was quite cheap - so we were surprised at just how amazing the hotel was when we arrived! Fresh mint tea was served to us upon arrival and we were also introduced to the little turtle family living upstairs on the beautiful roof terrace.

The rooms were immaculate and wonderfully furnished, and we spent a great deal of time upstairs in the terrace. We only stayed one night when we arrived in Marrakech but I was looking forward so much to coming back after we had travelled around!

When we returned after a few days it was like coming home - so relaxing and in such a great spot only about 1 minute from the souks and 2 minutes from Djemaa El Fna square, very easy to navigate.

I highly recommend having dinner here at least one night - the tagine is amazing and the smell of it cooking in the riad throughout the day will whet your appetite in a big way! A big, big thanks to Jawad and Said for making our stay amazing - we will most definitely be back!!

Room Tip: All rooms are amazing, but the one closest to the rooftop terrace was above the breakfast hustle &am...

Riad Layla Rouge is quite honestly the best accommodation I have found anywhere in the world. The decor in rooms and communal areas is beautiful, everything is sparkling clean and the staff and owners outstandingly friendly and helpful. It is located in a quiet street 5 minutes walk from Jamaa el Fna Square and is an absolute oasis of calm after a day in the hectic souks. Breakfast was excellent and the staff were always happy to make us a pot of mint tea to relax on the roof terrace with, as well as to provide invaluable local knowhow which made our time in Marrakech, as well as our travel within Morocco an absolute breeze. I cannot recommend this place strongly enough.

Marrakech is a crazy place, but in the best way possible. I would have missed out on so much that is authentic Marrakech were it not for Fran and Abdullah. They are quite literally the perfect hosts. They know what to do and more importantly how to arrange it, who with and how much it should cost. A perfect base to explore the real Marrakech and its surroundings. I would hate to think of the trouble I would have gotten myself into were it not for them!

We ended up in Marrakech a day early and found a room in Riad Layla Rouge. it's in a great location and we loved it!! The rooms were beautiful and comfortable and the owners and staff were so hospitable and friendly. They were so friendly that it was great having a conversation with them and they even invited us back for mint tea after we had left (unfortunately we didn't manage to go back) The facilities from roof terrace down to breakfast was great.

This was the best place we stayed in on our 3 week trip. We stayed here for the last two nights of our trip as the photos looked quirky and fun. The decor is really like nothing we had ever seen before, everywhere you look a different colour. Our room was gorgeous, calm and private and the court and terrace were calm but social.

Thank you so much to both Jawad and Hassan for their kindness and for going out of their way to make our stay so memorable - particularly the coffee outside our room door before breakfast in the morning - lovely touch!

We'd stay nowhere else!

Room Tip: Riad Layla Rouge at nighttime is absolutely stunning - spend a dinner here - a must do!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
1 Minute from Place D'Jeema el Fna in the centre of the souqs and possibly the first ever edible hostel riad. The free tea and cake – may stop you from trying to bite into the walls – or maybe not... Have a taste…Riad Layla Rouge breathes in the Mad Hatter’s tea party of colour that Marrakech conjures, and breathes out the nearby chaos – a gentler but still eccentric heartbeat. If Riad Layla Rouge could, it would cascade chocolate from the fountain in the courtyard, but the impact is truly mouth-watering nonetheless. Tea and cake, free all day – may stop you from biting into the walls – or maybe not…they may actually be edible. Only one minute from the main square, the 3 suites provide absolute privacy, the gorgeous mixed dorm encourages adventure sharing. All can enjoy the warm, communal atmosphere of the courtyard, Moroccan salon-dining room, and 2 flower and fruit tree draped roof terraces. All this enhanced by your own personal soundtrack with ipod speakers in each room. A small and perfectly formed family run riad in the centre of the souqs – Riad Layla Rouge breathes in the Mad Hatter’s tea party of colour and spices that Marrakech conjures, and breathes out the noise and craziness nearby – a gentler but still eccentric heartbeat. You cannot help but find your favourite colour here – by day Layla Rouge is a vase of flowers or a box of hand decorated chocolates, or an techni-flavour ice-cream stand; by night a treasure chest of glittering jewels, or a sparkling solar system. Use your imagination. Riad Layla Rouge wants you to get comfy in Marrakech; to feel safe and happy; imaginative and inspired – we combine a hostel spirit and atmosphere with that little bit of indulgence that you find in a luxury riad. Share your stories of travel and life. Laugh over tea and cake with other guests in our (almost) edible house. As the Mad Hatter said to Alice: ‘You could stay…What a mad, crazy, wonderful idea…’Whether you are travelling for the first time, or have done so for years – enjoy the rhythm of a city that transforms with the cycle of the sun. When you stay at Layla Rouge you can’t be anywhere else but the Wonderland of Marrakech. ... more   less
