“Nice for a holiday but not for business”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 23, 2012

Recently finished a conference at this newly completed Four Seasons... while the people are nice and generally try to be helpful there are alot of promises, some of which do not materialize. I had the impression that the workers are responsive but management is a little less so... Give it awhile to build the learning curve.

Room Tip: Opt for rooms on higher levels. On both occasions I stayed there - staff seemed to be dragging furn...

We stayed at the Four Seasons (FS ) for several nights during April as a Family - First of all I would strongly recommend the Hotel to others - that said there are quite a lot of small issues that add up to a signifcant need for improvement compared to other FS we have stayed at globally and these comments are intended to be helpful to other guests and please do not let them put you off the Hotel - it is great ! You will see that the room rates are on the upper level of what FS generally charges ( eg we have several times stayed in FS in USA for sub $ 200 per basic room, net of taxes) We are like others happy to pay 3 times that - but the increased quality and upside of so doing - We left feeling we had a good holiday but it actually wasnt really good value for money - it was good - yes - and the other aspects of the hotel made up for it - But like most - within reason - however rich you are ! - you still want to feel you are getting fair value. The Staff were generally VERY friendly and helpful - we did notice a lack of visible middle management (perhaps important in a new hotel to help train staff ? ) For example having spent days at the pool we saw no managers there - if they were there then they hid themselves and the bar and restuarant staff were left to their own devices - that said they were good generally very good - The Hotel totally lacks enough restuarants which compels guests to leave the FS - we ended up having room service some nights - or the alternative bar 2 nights per week was an Italian (with soon to be opened nightclub, cigar bar) This is very expensive ( around $ 30 for a bowl of pasta with no sauce or $ 75 to 90 dependent on exchange rate for lobster linguini - very good but that price in Morrocco? Wow ! ) There is no small tapas, casual cafefor evening food except for a limited menu in the bar - so if you have kids you are best currently to opt to go out for a pizza - but its added hassle and taxis are needed etc ) I really think FS have missed a trick not having a casual place for eat reasonably priced food EVERY evening - eg in the Fairmont Abu Dhabi we experienced a very good approach which was every night they held a Themed Night eg Arabian,Asian etc and it was full of families and couples every night .....Also the charges for drinks and the mini bar were excessive - eg a can of tonic around $ 9 to 12 WITHOUT the gin ! This puts you off staying at the hotel bar ( no happy hours offered at all - again we believe a missed opportunity) No free water except in the Gym ! A beer by the pool (small) was $ 15 for a corona - yes i had one every day but if they were $ 10 I would have had 3 ! Who wins ? Also we had no instructions about walking about in Marrakech (no pedestrian crossing in most places ! ) FS should offer more induction for guests who are first time visitors and maybe offer tailored guides etc ? If they do - we werent told and nearly got run down in the most modern part of the City ! Also with a conference in the hotel they made the mistake of allowing 1 day the delegates to use the main restuarant to eat breakfast - this ended up with the restuarant resembling a zoo ! Staff couldnt cope and it was overwhelming ! Also the Business center is open plan with only 1 printer WITHIN the Kids play area- Not wise in my view --- eg kids being kids stay on the PCs and you cant work or print a boarding pass - Why FS did this i really dont know ! The Gym is fairly small so watch out for that - no jogging track ( i was told of ) and the Hotel lights a very nice fire in the main reception everynight unfortunately it permeates the hotel with a very unpleasant smell of smoke eg not perfume ! (There is no US style coffee cart or free coffee early AM for US folk please note ! ) There is a seperate kids pool - and as per others reviews the staff did not police this very well and they need to make sure this is adhered to..................

All in all we spent a lot of money - we had a good vacation and would go back but be careful and demand improvement were you see it is needed as this FS is ''nearly'' where it needs to be - but itsnt for the prices they charge ! It is recommended by me and family however and have a great stay !

Room Tip: get advice on where to go and checkin at the airport - we wandered around with our bags lost for 10...

We stayed at the Four Seasons this last Easter weekend and enjoyed our stay. The hotel is however not very near the city centre and getting a taxi was sometimes a bit of a wait, we did get the courtesy car on one occasion. I think the hotel is possibly still very new and there are a few teething problems. When we arrived we made a cup of tea, kettle very thoughtfully provided, however no milk, quick call and milk was delivered, there should also be a small container to put the used teabag into once the tea was made. The room was very pleasant however I found it to be somewhat pricey for what it offers 700+ Euro per night. Some extra toilet paper would be nice too. The staff were friendly and helpful everywhere. The rooms cleaned nicely
The pool is great, one for kids and one for adults, this is very considerate however some parents were obviously not aware of the difference and nobody said anything to them. Something that was also somewhat annoying, the sunbeds were just about all booked at about 10 ie.someone had placed a magazine or towel on many of them. I get really annoyed by this practice and removed a few of them only to discover they had been placed there by the lifeguard and he was getting a nice tip from some of the guests. We weren't aware of this procedure, I don't agree with it even if I had been. We stayed at the pool untill about 1 o'clock and the magazines or towels were still in place in spite of numerous guests, also ignorant of the "procedure" arriving. They all had to find themselves a place in the sun or on the sidelines.
Would I go back, I don't think so. I might be tempted to go to another hotel that's well known just as luxurious and above all, closer.

This was our first visit to Morocco and we had hoped to escape the very cold February weather in Europe. We were not disappointed by the weather at a sunny 22deg C in the day nor by this excellent hotel with well trained, thoughtful staff. Marrakesh is a fascinating city with interesting insights into Arabic culture. There is a wide choice of restaurants from the pop-up ‘stalls in the square’ to high-end hotels. Guides are necessary in the Souk and some excursions are possible outside of the city, preferably by private car.

The hotel is newly built to the usual 4S resort mix of hotel & properties. It has Moorish influences in large airy public spaces with cosy sitting areas with fireplaces. We stayed in room 310, a deluxe room, which overlooks the gardens towards the distant Atlas Mountains. The marbled bathroom has a double sink, rain shower and very large bath. Separate toilet. There is a walk in dressing with useful storage inc safe. The fittings & furniture are of high quality, good heating/air conditioning, large LG flat screen with wide choice of European channels, DVD player and i-pod station. Tea & coffee making facilities. We slept very well in a comfortable King Bed with high quality linen and a choice of pillows.
There are two large pools, one suitable for lane swimmers with adjacent hot Jacuzzi tubs. The children’s pool was unheated during our stay. Separate, well fitted fitness and weights room with nearby tennis courts. Very pleasant French tennis coach. The smallish Spa, under maintenance during our stay, has range of massage rooms. Active Kids club. The gardens are prettily lit at night and have extensive planting of palm trees. The garden borders will need several years to mature.
The general manager maintains high standards of staff training and service. Most staff have French and English as their second languages. Whilst occasionally a lack of fluency was a problem, overall we felt that all staff shared a genuine interest in the guest’s welfare and were unfailingly pleasant. The Italian and Arabic restaurants alternated service during our stay. The cooking was good, especially the fish, but with a limited choice of dishes. A wider menu choice including the room service menu would be helpful for children and long stay guests
We greatly enjoyed our extended stay at this hotel and recommend it unreservedly when visiting Marrakesh.

Room Tip: South facing, higher rooms have the mountain views.

Dear London2travel,

Thank you very much for taking the time to review our resort. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay and thank you for the feedback. We have since introduced many new children's dishes on our menu and are also meeting with our long stay guests at the beginning of their stay to crate a more customized menu based on their preferences.

Just spent 5 days in Marrakech at the Four Seasons. Its an amazing hotel. While the hotel is only 8 months old, the staff is incredible. Everyone knew our kids and they had fun with them - the kids loved Waffa in the lounge bar. The kids club was excellent with lots for the kids to do. Our kids loved the kids club so much, they didnt want to spend time with us. Allowed us to relax at the Adult pool where Tiago (head of Restaurants) pours a deadly but delicious Caipirinha.

The spa is great. My wife went several times and I actually tried the Hammam treatment. Its local to the Morrocan culture and learned that most locals get 1x a week minimum. Was a great treatment and highly recommend if you want something very different (just be ready for the cold water ending) but traditional.

The kids loved the center of the old town with the Snake Charmers and Monkeys. We had a private guide which would highly recommend. The hotel can arrange. Give your guide an idea of what you are looking for and they will help keep things moving.

Finally a small reco: the hotel can arrange a car for pick up from the airport and return to the airport. The service helps get you thru customs without waiting in the lines. Well worth the extra cost.

Have stayed at many Four Seasons across Europe and Hawaii. This was one of my favorites due to the friendly staff.

Room Tip: We had a suite - allowed us to put kidsin 1 room while we had the main.

Well its the Four Seasons so what else can you expect ?? BUT this one is NEW and the most gorgeous one we have ever been too...not only is the hotel incredible the guest services were spectacular making all of our reservations. We did NOT leave the resort without a guide , especially going to the Souks. We had two different ones bringing us two different experiences. It was a sensational trip one not to be missed if you get the chance to go. We flew to Madrid first and stayed at the Ritz a few nights first so the flight to Morocco would not be as long.

Room Tip: Use AMEX platinum for upgrades

This is a lovely new hotel with great staff. The grounds are superb with two huge swimming pools - use the kids' one if you want real peace and quiet as it is not heated so all the kids and parents go to the adult one!
Rooms are spacious and very well kitted out. The restaurant is a bit limited though - room service has a much better menu. The spa and gym are great.
My only criticism is that the waiters' idea of a glass of wine is a bit varied - from generous to positively mean!
It is definitely an oasis of calm and quality but not of course representative of the country or city in which it sits.

Dear VeryDiscerning,
Thank you for your review and for your feedback on our waiter's ability to pour the wines. We will review those immediately.
In regards to the pools: I am glad to tell you that the kids pool is fully heated now and that the Adult Only pool is now THE place to relax in peace and quiet (We are the only luxury hotel in Marrakech with a deisgnated Adults Only Pool)!
I am sorry you didn't feel our resort did not have enough "sense of place"; Although it was always conceptualized as a contemporary, modern Moroccan hotel with Moroccan architecture and touches throughout, we are are adding additional throughout the resort.
Again, I thank you for taking the time to review our resort and hope to see you back soon.
