“Comfortable riad in medina”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 1, 2014

A riad is a mini-palace buried in the depths of medieval alleys that looks like nothing from the outside but inside reveals, usually, what was once a grand private home.
This riad is decorated with art but not in the traditional mosiac style.
Its very clean and comfortable and the breakfast is good. We did not take other meals there but many people did.
Ryad Amiran is on the north west of the medina near Bab Yacout - about five minutes safe and well signposted walk from where most taxis drop you. With a little ingenuity its possible to walk right through the medina to the Djem El Fna, otherwise follow the walls.
The owner speaks English and will arrange excursions, and the riad is licensed to sell alcohol, something of a rarity in Morocco.

Room Tip: As fas as I know, all the suites are different, so ask if you have particular requirements.

Booked this Ryad for a week. It was a bit difficult to find, would have been helpful if we had known that its near Bab Daukkallah and Bab Yakoot restaurant. Upon arrival we were initially informed that we don't have a booking. This was thankfully incorrect and we found out 15 mins later that we had a reservation and there was some misunderstanding. Our room was changed half way through our stay due to another "misunderstanding". They need to be a bit more organised I think!

Apart from the minor hiccups it was actually a brilliant place. The rooms are good size and very clean. The whole Ryad was very well decorated and the hospitality staff were excellent. The area is quit safe and the walk to the main square through the tiny streets is very interesting.

The Ryad is around a 20-25 min from the main square (someone told us its 10 mins, which is not correct)

Overall very good experience but please don't listen to the manager if he tells you that u need to pay 50 dirhams for each taxi ride to the city center. The real rate is be 20-30 dirhams!

ps: The breakfast was very good
ps2: The rooms are a bit dark and dont have TVs; My wife tells me thats what differentiates them from normal hotels..

We stayed here for a week after booking a last minute holiday to Marrakech.

The hotel was fantastic right from the start with Amir furnishing us with all of the information we needed to navigate the souks right to the square.

The courtyard is a peaceful oasis where breakfast is served. Much better than expected with fantastic service and they were happy to serve us on the roof terrace at our request.

The room was very comfortable, clean and with a great bathroom / shower. Don't book a transfer through your travel company, either do it through the Riad, or, if you're feeling adventurous haggle, 70dhm should be more than enough from the airport!

Room Tip: The hotel was happy to offer us a room which suited our requirements, just ask.

My husband and I stayed at Ryad Amiran for 5 nights for our anniversary trip and we had such a lovely time there. We met with the Owner, Adrian, when we first arrived and he made us feel very welcome and so very at home right away. Adrian sat with us and went through all the details about how to get around the city, as well as, Dos and Don'ts which were very useful as we know very little about the city. The Ryad is located in the medina which is within the city wall and it is considered an "old town" area. We thought it gives a very authentic feelings of the city. We didn't think it was difficult to find at all after a day of observing the area. In fact, I think it is well located as it is close to the famous city gate and not very far to walk to the main square (but far enough to be away from the noise). Anyone who had been to Marrakech would know that you WILL get lost and will not remember your back to where you are staying on your first day or two, the staff at Ryad Amiran helped us a lot by explaining the easiest way to get around the small, identical alley ways and told us not to let anyone show us the way back unless we are willing to pay silly amount of money in return. The manager gave us a lot of tips and recommendations on the choice of places to visit to fit with what we wanted to do or see each day. The owner, Adrian, recommended a fantastic restaurant for us to go to for our anniversary dinner which made our night even more special. The Ryad is smartly decorate and very clean. Our room was made each day, perfectly with great attention to details. The roof top is a great snug even though there is no view. We didn't mind about the fact that there was no TV in the room as there are so much more interesting things to see around town. Breakfast was basic but very good. As I am not a fan of sweet breakfast, it wasn't a problem to ask for more eggs and bread instead. You can use the computer in the office area to access internet and there is free wifi available. Very highly recommended for Rad Amiran. You won' be disappointed. You will feel very welcome at home, just like staying at a good friend's house :) (If you are looking for a hotel type of set up, I'd say you should stay in a hotel but if you look for a warm and personal touch then this place is perfect).

We left without seeing everyone, so I take this chance to say thanks again for looking after us so nicely and all your help and advises during our time of stay. If we ever go back to Marrakech again we would definitely return to stay at Rya Amiran.

We had read very good reviews about this Ryad so we decided to book it.
It was listed as a 5 star which I do not agree at all.
First of all, location is inconvenient. Taxi drivers were not aware of were it quite was and our driver called the Ryad to get directions. Once we crossed the Medina wall we stopped and he told us it was only a few blocks from were we were. It was dark at night and 3 young men approached us directing into different alleys, they were unsure as well. Then they agreed on one direction and told us to follow. We reached the Ryad and they wanted money, but not any tip, a big tip as they said it would have to be split among 3 people!
We entered the Ryad and on the good thing it has is the staff, very attentive all the time.
We had to pay for room and taxes straight away, which I found a bit uncomfortable, without even been shown the room.
Then we were taken to our room. Very small. Not even space for our suitcase. Dark. No TV set. the blankets were all wrinkled.
The bathroom had mold. The drain was quite blocked so if one took a shower the water would remain without draining for at least 1 hour. The soap! it was one same big bar for every guest, ours had been used already and would most surely be used by the coming guests as well.
The first night there was just a hanger in the bathroom, the second night the hanger had a bath robe.
The tissue box was empty inside the bathroom compartment.
The toilet-roll holder had been ripped-off from the wall so the toilet rolls were kept at the back of the toilet, on top.
Very noisy rooms, one could here everything that happened outside the room or next door.
Basic breakfast, but ok.
The place did not look clean to me.
I cannot understand the 5-star rating. To me it was a 3-star. Disappointing.

My overall impression of the Ryad was a fantastic one, it is beautiful and tranquil with very welcoming and helpful staff. All of them could of not done more to make our short break enjoyable.

When we arrived at the airport we had not arranged a transfer so got a taxi from outside the front, we were ripped off by the driver. When we arrived at the Ryad they were disappointed by this and said we should have contacted them- my advice- contact them and arrange a transfer!! We did this back to the airport and it work very well. Bab Yacout is the closest gate in the city wall and any taxi driver will know this (as the owner said the King eats in a restaurant close to here every month so it is a well know gate- don't let the driver tell you different!)

On arrival at the Ryad I was very impressed with how beautiful it was. It is a really oasis in a busy area of the Medina. It was very quiet and relaxing, a real surprise and just what I needed. All of the staff were without exception extremely friendly, knowledgable and helpful. On arrival they took time to good advice to help with getting around, what to see and do and throughout the stay continued to help with anything we needed. I asked if they could arrange a hammam (body scrub) and they directed me to a very nice spa where I had 2 hours of treatment including a body scrub and massage for a very reasonable 450 dirham.

On arrival at the Ryad I was very surprised to have to pay city taxes- this was per person per night and worked out at 450 dirham for 2 people for 4 nights. As the ryad did not take card they wanted cash for this along with the taxi ride meant we found the nearest cash point very early in our trip!

The rooms were very comfortable, good size and well equipped although I did not find the hair dryer others have mentioned- just meant I was a bit scruffy in the photographs!! Rooms were very clean, as was everywhere else in the Ryad and the roof terrace very pleasant both during the day and in the evening although I agree that there is not a view!

BE WARY-All in all I loved this Ryad but the slight sting in the tail was one evening we decided that we would eat there. We had had a busy day getting lost and returned exhausted not wanting to venture out again. We were offered water and a Shisha which we took up, we also drank two cans of coke from the rooms. We then had a meal including four small cans of beer (2 each) and another bottle of water. In total this came to 1200 dirham (over £100). The food was pleasant- the starters simple salads, the main course a chicken tagine and boiled potatoes and some mint tea. The food was 350 dirham each which I felt was extremely expensive and far more than other local restaurants. We spoke to other guests who also felt it was pricey and although pleasant not fantastic. I was also concerned that there did not seem to be a consistent price charged between guests and no where were the prices for the food advertised. The service throughout could not be faulted though. It would be good to be clear about the price before guests eat, this would stop unwanted surprises at the end.

Despite this I would stay here again and recommend to friends.

Room Tip: We stayed in Diamonte which was very dark and quite meaning very good sleep.

Just finished a stay at this Riad. Lovely little place albeit intially hard to find but once you know where you are easy to navigate. Hospitality is good, not quite what i had hoped for reading previous reviews but not bad by any strech. A special thanks go to Ahmed what a sincere guy. I heard you are studying and i wish you all the best. The house maids are great and go to great lengths to smarten up your room each day ready for when you are back from exploring. Amir is friendly and offers good advice on the city. The riad itself is very clean and well kept. It has all the moderm comforts, a fridge/mini bar, wifi, a (proper!) hairdryer, air-con, a hugeeee bed with lovely duvets and pillows and a huge shower maybe better than my one at home. Breakfast is fine, basic but gets you through till lunch, its nothing fancy but was nice and fine for us none the less. We chose not to eat here for dinner (we were going to, but another couple staying advised it was quite expensive and nothing you could not get anywhere else) but heard it was pleasant. The rooftop is nice although there is no view (so not sure of the previous reviews stating there is!!) Everyone we met who was staying were lovely. The main gate 'bab doukkula' nearest the hotel gets very very busy and keep an eye out for motorbikes and cars heading your way!! Overall was a very nice place to stay during our visit to marrakech. Most attractions are in okay walking distancs if you are able bodied. If not the taxi rank is not far. The locals are friendly and say hello most of the time. I am a british 23 yr old woman and can honestly say i never felt scared or threatened, thats not to say i wasnt stared at and attracted attention but i felt very comfortable, even late at night (although i was travelling with my partner) We did get many offers for guiding but we politey refused and found our own way in the end - mainly due to the worry of giving money for this! (apart from when we got dumped by our taxi on arrival and desperatly needed help within themaze of the Medina!!) I would stay here again, thank you Riad Amirian for a pleasurable, lovely and home away from home we had a great time!!
