“Great place to stay-2 mins to Jemaa el Fna square”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 14, 2013

Really enjoyed our stay at the Riad Hamdane - the staff (especially Firdaus) were always on hand to assist throughout our stay. Lost mobile phone whilst in Marrakech, and Firdaus was kind enough to translate the incident details in French, which I could then take to the Tourist Police office, in order to obtain a 'loss report'.

Triple room was apparently double booked for the first night - Firdaus sorted this out in time for the second night. Wifi connection a bit hit and miss in the room, but good reception in the seating area near reception. Rooms clean and spacious, and Breakfast was good.

Firdaus should be a manager for the work that she does here in the Riad - please promote her !

Room Tip: You MUST get someone to help you find this place, otherwise you will struggle in th maze of alleyway...

Fairly straightforward to find this Riad in the maze of alleyways leading off Jemma El Fna! Mostly positive feedback but wifi sometimes poor. Good breakfast on the terrace and super friendly staff. Represents good value for money.

Good location, only 5 minutes walk from the square, clean rooms, no toiletries so bring your own. It is hard to find because of the alleyways but as you get closer there are signs. The breakfast was good, orange juice was delicious. On one day they made it earlier for us to eat it in the lobby as we had an early tour which we thought was nice.

We spent 4 nights at this Riad in May in a triple room. Though we found the rooms basic(no fridge or wardrobe), we found the hotel very clean and the staff very friendly and accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble for them.

Location wise, this Riad was fantastic. It's literally a 5 minute walk into the Square and though it's positioned down some back streets, it's very easy to find.

The rooftop terrace was perfect for sunbathing and eating, though be aware the Riad doesn't serve alcohol. The wireless Internet was a bit temperamental but the staff were more than happy to reset the router at any time.

There were a few things that let the Riad down. There were builders creating offices on the terrace during our stay; the noise was considerable and the fact they are putting offices on the roof is a bit off putting. We had dinner on the last night and found the food bland and the portions too small. When we left we requested a transfer at 1800, but when we got to the car park the vehicle wasn't there. Thankfully we were allowing plenty of time for travelling, but it seemed that there was a loss of communication somewhere as we were standing in a car park for 20 minutes before it arrived.

Overall, a pleasant Riad in an ideal location. Would happily recommend.

After arriving in the heart of Marrakech relatively late in the evening, the Riad Hamdane was the perfect place to find the calm and relaxing side to the city, with a traditional Moroccan feel. The Riad is situated very closely to the main square, however it can be difficult to find for the first time. The Riad offered to arrange a collection from the airport, which on this occasion we didn't use, I would advise guests to do this as it quite difficult to find otherwise (of course you can ask a local to guide you which adds another type of adventure).
Breakfast was served on the roof terrace which is a lovely suntrap (with shaded areas) and the Riad staff were very flexible with the timings of breakfast, which for a big group (12 of us) worked extremely well. The breakfast was very generous and we were definitely all full for a day in the City.
Marrakech can be a confusing city to navigate your way around (be prepared to get lost), however the Riad staff went out of their way to help us and ensure we found the places we were looking for. We loved the hand drawn maps and they didn't let us down. The staff even escorted us to the main square to get a good deal on a horse and cart ride as well taking some of the group to another Spa.
Although I didn't have a treatment at the Riad, other members of our group and all raved about it and certainly looked relaxed afterwards!
The staff all took time to get to know us and I cannot commend them enough for making us feel welcome at the Riad and Marrakech. When the guide books say that a Riad is like being welcomed in to a friends home, they got it right with Riad Hamdane. This is somewhere I would definitely stay again.

The staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We were in a group of 4 and the room was adequate. Breakfasts on the terrace were fresh and typically Morroccan. Excellent location within the old city whilst being very quiet at night.

starting with the postive side:
- the staff was very friendly, polite and helpful
- the Riad was beautifully decorated in warm colours

negative side:
- we stayed in for a couple of nights in the Suite and one night in a standard room - both rooms were not satisfying
- we payed a lot of money for the Suite. Western price - but no western comfort. Now dont get me wrong. We chose the Riad because we like to have more authenticity + we are willing to scale down our expectations. Because we know that we are traveling into another country and fully respect the differences in standards. But if you - as the owner of the Riad - ask so much money for the room, I think its not acceptable to hang up my clearly visible dirty (!) towel (which I through down on the floor) back to its old place.

There were constructions going on right above our head. The NOISES in the morning were horrible and we couldnt sleep at all. Beside the construction you could hear everything going on around you so clearly. The door slamming, people talking, steps from outside and above your head (because the terrasse for breakfast was just above us). Maybe the noise is an result of the construction of the Riad - but still...no fun when you dont get a good sleep!

There were smells coming from the pipe in the washroom. The shower was (half)blocked & (half) broken. The water swashes on the floor. Far from the -as they called- "luxury massage shower"

Many little things that were annoying (especially when you are in you holliday and want to relax!). We were tired, couldnt sleep and didnt feel comfortable. Not worth its price!!!

- The standard room was even worse. No decoration, very dark, shower kind of gross.

- The breakfast was boring -EVERY day: bread, 2 marmalade, honey, cream cheese, 2pancakes, 1 piece of cake (at least there were great fresh orange juice + the staff was kindly bringing us omelette + tea)

All in all its a nice place to look at and the staff was friendly & polite. BUT no comfort. Its up to you whether you like to enjoy your holliday in comfort or you would give it up for a little pretty decoration.
