“A hidden gem in the heart of the Old Town”
Reviewed April 23, 2013

Like most of the Riads this is a small B&B style hotel. You will need a guide or luggage porter to find it the first time because like all the other Riads, sign posting is just about none existant, but then even street names are hard to come by in the old town! Situated down a quiet side street, the outside of the Riad is literally a heavy wooden decorative door. Inside it is decorated in simple Arabic style, lots of glazed tiles etc. The central courtyard is pleasantly cool and there is a small roof top sun deck with seating and about 6 sun loungers - the hotel has about 10-12 rooms so never feels busy. The staff were very helpful and all spoke good English. Our room had 2 comfy single beds, plently of wardobe space, a decent sized bathroom with walk in shower, and most crucially air conditioning that worked! It was late April and the city was baking at 45c for the 3 nights we were there. You are literally 1 minutes walk from the Souks (markets) and 3 minutes from the main square where everything happens! The Riad is down a quiet, and at night dark side alley but we never saw or heard any trouble here or anywhere else in the narrow city alleys which pass for streets. If I go back to Marrakech I would stop here again, it gives you a way better feel for the whole Marrakech experience than stopping in a European style hotel in the more remote new part of the city where you are 30-45 minutes walk from the old town, where all the attractions are located

Hidden behind a big door in the medina you can find this riad in a perfect condition. Quiet and clean. Only 3 minutes walking to the big square. Restaurants, shops etc. nearby. In the riad there's a small roof terrace and a small room for breakfast but there's not much extra space to sit down and to relax. In fact the riad is suitable for sleeping and having breakfast and offers nothing special. But if you realise that you pay only 40 euros a night, the riad is not very expensive.
Staff is helpful. Beds bit stiff.

This riad is in the madena and hard to find initially. Taxis are not allowed in the square after 1 pm and it was hard to navigate. It is down a dark alley! It was a short walk to the djemaa el fina.
Joseph the owner is helpful. Breakfast simple but nice. Room cold although the air con doubles as a heater we were not given the remote to access this. Warning the beds are very hard!!
There was a lovely roof space which we sat on in the evening. The madena can be overwhelming so you may wish to consider the new town. Taxi to new town 20 diram £1.60 Taxi to the airport 100 dirham £8, tajine 60 diram £5. Food is good.
Took trip to Atlas Mountains 25 euros very good would recommend it with ismi tours.

Room Tip: We booked the triple room although there was only 2 of us to get larger room. Rooms are small.

If you want a quiet room in a very central location, this is the place to seek out. (Stayed 23-26th Feb. 2013) Room 7 is a luxurious twin room with shower and toilet at the top of the hotel, handy for the roof terrace and the sun loungers. Josef and Ali and the lovely lady who serves breakfast (called "Wafa" - phonetic spelling) will cater to your needs - just ask for anything you need and they will help you out. Continental breakfast is included in the nightly room rate. The hotel is beautifully designed and has been kept very much in the local style. Rooms have air conditioning and heating. If you are unfamiliar with the area, the simplest way to find the hotel when you arrive in the Djemaa el Fna square is to commandeer a barrow boy with "un chariot" at the entrance to the Medina (or at the entrance to the square as vehicular traffic is banned in the square after about 11.30 am) show him the written address, and let him transport your luggage in his barrow directly to the door of the hotel. (Standard charge 20Dirhams, which you should negotiate and agree before you set off - they will initially ask for a lot more, but just move on the the next chariot and they will concede 20 DM.)
If you're walking, come out of the Cafe de France and turn right to the narrowing head of the main square, and turn right along the rue Dabachi. Take the second on the left after approximately 150 yards, opposite the mosque, which is the rue Db. AbdelKader, and Riad Marrakiss is 50 yards on the left, no. 103, through some low arches.
A final suggestion, relevant to a stay at any hotel in the Medina, is that if you don't want to rise to pray with the pre-dawn first call to prayer from the competing local mosques, you may wish to take along and use a pair of effective earplugs. Alternatively, get up really early and get out and walk around. It will be well worth the effort. There are very very few tourists around before 8am, and the Medina is a totally different place - belonging to the locals, with everyone hurrying to work or school.
Finally, the standard fare for a petit taxi from the airport to the Djemaa el Fna square (or return) is 70Dm plus optional tip, but again, make sure you agree the fare before you set off.

What a perfect location about 2 minute walk to djeema el fna and in the heart of the medina feels like your back in time apart from all the buzzing mopeds!!!!! Just walk on the right and you'll be fine!!
Rooms spotlessly clean breakfast is just bread and cheese but plenty of coffee.theres a brilliant donut man on the main medina street where they only cost 1 dirham perfect any time of day!!!
Roof top terrace is a love rly sunny spot in the afternoon perfect to unwind after a busy day exploring!

We organised an airport pick up which I would recommend for at least arrival in order to get there easily and not get picked up by wandering "guides"

Once you've seen the route it is easy to find.

The rooms are basic but are clean and comfortable, you made need the duvets provided in winter months as it does get cold over night. We never had any problems with hot water even though we had 3 of us staying.

The staff are very helpful and will point out wherever you need to go.

Only downside is the poor wifi signal but you can pick that up fine downstairs.

You will get woken up by prayers at 6am unless you are a very deep sleeper but that'll probably be the case throughout the Medina.

The roof terrace has brilliant views and its good to get up there in the evening before heading out.

For the money paid its very good value, I probably wouldn't go to Marrakech again as there is not much to see after 4 days but if anyone I knew was going I wouldn't hesitate pointing them to this nice little riad
