“Eyes of the past look down on you....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

A little bit hard to find, for the alleys in the shouks keep twisting and turning the opposite direction of ones' desire, but at the end the stunning Maison is found and reveals its secrets.
The house itself is another beautiful example of a hidden treasure, another surprise that one doesn't expect when passing by, tastefully restored by the enthousiastic owner.
The foto's exposed are of incredible beauty, historically seen of great value, very tastefully framed: one wishes to have large empty walls at home to fill with some of these fine examples of early photography.....
Really fell in love with 2 foto's in peticular, maybe one day the very sweet owner who greeted us upon arrival and gave us a small private tour, decides to open a webshop, so we can obtain those foto's after all ..... or we will return to just admire them as- and where they are now.
One advice: take your time, don't rush, and do take a break at the lovely rooftop terrace with its stunning view over this highly interesting city: you won't regret!

“Lovely place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013 via mobile

Had trouble to find it as it is in the middle of the medina. Very nice exhibition of some early black and white photography. Terasse upstairs invites to stay a little longer. The stuff is very friendly and helpful.

“Not bad but not great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013

It had some interesting photographs, but mainly from a certain period 50 or so years ago. There was nothing modern and the prints were very expensive to purchase. I guess with the internet these days good photographs are easy to access. The history was interesting and you were able to compare parts of Morocco with how they look today

“Loved it!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013

I absolutly loved this museum...It's in an old riad and shows different pictures from the 20s-40s of Morocco...Really gives you a peek in older Moroccan times. The place itself is beautiful and has a really nice terrace with a great view of Marrakech. You can even see the mountains in the background while enjoying a mint tea. The guy working at the museum was really nice and gave us an introduction. It's like a little oasis in an otherwise crazy city.

“The best attraction of Morocco!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2013

Like every other hotel/restaurant/attraction in Marrakech, the Maison de la Photographie is so unassuming. Yet, once you enter its the most beautiful little museum ever! The riad stunningly presents the most beautiful first photographs of Morocco, captured by a French man, who traveled from the Loire Valley to North Africa on his bicycle.

All the photos have captions in Arabic, French and English, so you can understand the context. The first colour footage of Morocco is absolutely fascinating, even though I couldn't understand the French commentator!

Also, I definitely recommend the gorgeous hibiscus tea on the terrace afterwards! The terrace has one of the most stunning views of the whole of the medina.
