Hi, my husband and i had an unexpected windfall and decided that a trip to Marrakesh for a short break would be ideal. We opted to stay at Riad Linda so we were independent to come and go as we pleased, without any restrictions. It lived up to all our expectations. Although the weather in January was not exactly Hot, we had done our research and we found the Riad and their Staff warm and welcoming. After spending six days there in January this year we have every intention of going back to Riad Linda, later this year using it as our base to discover the delights of this amazing country. Came here with my partner for a long weekend of relaxation and culture. Was greeted by the very friendly manager, and shown to our room on the first floor. The inside of the riad itself was so beautifully decorated- we particularly enjoyed the mini waterfall! We had a great nights sleep, woke up feeling refreshed for the first time in months. We were given a lovely traditional breakfast, and given some advice about activities and where they recommend for dinner. It was fantastic being so close to the sooks- all the handbags and jewellery were wonderful to browse. There was so much to see, and such a lovely bustling atmosphere. I wish we had stayed longer than two nights! Will definitely be back for longer to get a trip to the mountains, and have recommended this beautiful riad to my friends and family. It had such a personal touch, and made our experience that much better!

It's taken me a while to write this. My husband and I stayed here in November. we were recommended by a friend who had stayed here previously. This little riad, whilst not 5 star luxury is a great little find if you want a comfortable central place to stay without having to spend a fortune. The riad is a short walk from the square and the souks are right at the end of the derb. We always felt perfectly safe Linda and the staff were genuinely welcoming and we were made to feel really at home. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff & we were welcomed back every day with a warm smile and asked about our adventures. My room as well as the whole riad is kept spotlessly clean. If you really want to experience Marrakech, Stay here not in a soulless hotel on the outskirts.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Douira suite which is on the first floor. The suite is large & comfortable &...

This is a one star property masquerading as a three star destination, suitable perhaps for well-heeled back-packers for a night or two, but entirely inappropriate for parties of up to 15, as offered. There were only ten of us and insufficient chairs and seating throughout. The photos on the website are wildly flattering, the rooms much smaller than they appear, and the terrace nothing like the smart images. Linda’s replies to the previous negative remarks left on TripAdvisor would suggest she has taken on board the complaints, but in fact the problems remain unaddressed.

Another major issue is Riad Linda's location. The website offers wheelchair access to one of the bedrooms on the ground floor; this is patently misleading when a wheelchair would have considerable difficulties running the gamut of the Medina, the long, long, uneven alley and the tortuous, dirty entry to Riad Linda itself. In our case my elderly husband had to endure a totally unexpected and excessively long journey by foot, at midnight, on the evening of our arrival, though this was never mooted and the consequences of which made him a virtual prisoner at the Riad for the duration of our stay. Having said this, the situation might have been ameliorated somewhat had the property been sufficiently heated and comfortable, but this was not the case. Obviously visitors to Marrakech must appreciate that at this time of year the outside temperature may be low, but if a property is to be rented out for a generous sum during the winter months, then surely it is reasonable to expect sufficient heating to be provided. Even when the sun shone and the terrace was warm, the bedrooms and living spaces remained freezing. At least three of the heaters weren’t functioning and bulky, dangerous gas heaters had to be moved from room to room by the staff in an (unsuccessful) effort to keep us warm.

Meanwhile, the bathrooms are badly designed, cold and consistently flooded after a shower. Small, hard towels were provided but no soap.

Having said that, the staff of three were kind and friendly and helpful but were manifestly limited by what was available. For example, although there was a cot for the infant travelling with us, there was no bed-linen for it and no high-chair. More concerning, however, was the open socket with wires protruding in the living area (this was repaired after he had left) and on the top terrace as well as a red hot light bulb at ankle height on which one of our guests burned themselves. We should add that the gas heaters were a constant worry as they were obviously red hot on the outside when in use and the child might easily have burnt himself quite seriously.

All in all a very disappointing rental and we still cannot understand why it's services, location and accessibility aren’t described in full on the website, and with a proviso that it might be unsuitable for a family group including the elderly, handicapped or small children.

As the owner of Riad Linda I would like to respond to the spiteful, inaccurate and totally misleading ‘review’ of our riad written by ‘katieea’.

Riad Linda is situated in an authentic neighbourhood, complete with all the sights, sounds and smells that make Marrakech so excitingly different from anywhere else.

Staying in a riad in the Medina of Marrakech is a unique experience. Initially, most travellers feel shock and fear both of which are quickly replaced with relief and delight. Unfortunately, some travellers are a little too sensitive. They are destined never to discover or enjoy the real Marrakech.

We are a typical Marrakech riad, centrally situated, offering clean & comfortable accommodation with a warm welcome. We have never pretended to be anything else. We regularly receive 5 stars for location, service, value & cleanliness.

Previous guests have included doctors, lawyers, bankers, diplomats & other professional people who would be rather surprised to be referred to as ‘well heeled backpackers’.

Our guests have ranged in ages from just a few months old to guests in their 80s. We have had many return guests over the years & guests who have come on previous guests’ recommendations.

Our riad can comfortably accommodate up to14 people. This is clearly stated on our website. I’m not sure why ‘katieea’ thinks the number is 15 people. There is a range of seating areas through out the riad to allow people to relax & socialise. We have hosted many large groups of families and friends over the years who have had a very relaxing & enjoyable stay with us.

The photos on our website are accurate & we have had many comments about our rooms & terrace ‘appearing just like in the photos’. Guests enjoy relaxing on our comfortable sun loungers & our lovely rooftop Bedouin tent is always very popular.

The riad staff & I always take the care & comfort of our guests very seriously & genuine issues are immediately rectified. We carry out a programme of regular maintenance & refurbishment as appropriate for the upkeep of this lovely old building.

The description of the location of Riad Linda is accurate. We regularly receive many compliments for the convenience of our location. We are a short walk (5 minutes) from the main square & the souks but our location also ensures a peaceful retreat at the end of the day.

Since ‘katieea’ is not a wheelchair user or was accompanying a wheelchair user I find her comments regarding wheelchairs rather odd. Our riad was inspected & approved by Access Morocco as suitable for guests with wheelchairs & mobility issues. We have successfully hosted a number of guests in wheelchairs all of whom have appreciated the access arrangements & additional care & attention that we have provided.

I find ‘katieea’’s comments about our derb rather distasteful. The derb & the entrance to Riad Linda are swept daily. All rubbish is also removed daily. We are members of our local Derb Association & our neighbours take great pride in making the derb welcoming & attractive for both residents & visitors.

Before these guests arrival I was in regular e mail correspondence with ‘katieea’ ‘s husband offering advice, help & information. This is part of the personal service that we provide to all our guests. He was always very appreciative of how all requests were dealt with promptly & efficiently. This included a last minute request made on Boxing Day, only a few hours before their arrival.

At no time was I made aware of this gentleman’s poor state of health. If we had been made aware of his health issues our manager would have made arrangements for an alternative drop off point. Unfortunately airline schedules & arrival times are out with our control.

I understand that that this gentleman enjoyed numerous excursions around Marrakech & into the Ourika Valley which were arranged by our manager & that he was far from being a ‘virtual prisoner’.

Christmas & New Year are peak season in Marrakech, a fact that ‘katieea’ seems unaware of despite this being clearly stated on our website. As they were staying for 2 weeks they managed to negotiate a generous discount on our normal rates. As well a receiving 2 free nights, their whole party also received complimentary airport transfers as well as a complimentary dinner. This represented extremely good value for money.

To claim that the bedrooms & living spaces were’ freezing ‘is simply untrue. The Douira Suite has a log fire as well as a heating unit. All of the bedrooms had functioning heating units. Unfortunately the heater in one of the bedrooms did not work for 1 night, however this was repaired the following day. Our bathrooms in common with other riads are not heated. If you step from a very well heated room into a room that is unheated then of course the change of temperature will be noticeable.

Our portable gas fires are widely used in many riads & as well as providing a source of heat are perfectly safe. We would expect all parents of young children to exercise appropriate levels of control & care.

Our bathrooms are European style ‘wet rooms’ with power showers. Moroccan pipe work is not the best in the world and people should not necessarily visit Morocco expecting the same standards as at home. Some things, like bed linen & towels we were able to import but the plumbing, we could not. Our bathrooms function very well. They are cool, clean with hand polished tadelakt walls & traditional zellige finishes. Soap & towels of a good quality are always provided & the towels changed daily .

I’m very pleased that along with previous guests you found our staff to be kind & helpful. They went out of their way to ensure that you were extremely well looked after, for example purchasing special breakfast items that you specially requested.

A cot was provided as requested as of course was suitable bed linen. If a high chair had been requested, naturally this would have been provided.

The ‘open socket with wires protruding in the living area’ was in fact a light fitting where the decorative lampshade had been removed. When the lampshade was put back on, this ‘problem’ was resolved.

As all lights in the terrace are covered, I can’t possibly comment as to why a guest happened to burn his / her ankle.

We are sorry that ‘Katieea’ did not enjoy her experience of Marrakech, but we would like to point out that many hundreds of visitors have appreciated the wonderful surroundings and warm hospitality offered at Riad Linda.

We would urge Trip Advisor members to read all the reviews of Riad Linda by the many happy people who have stayed with us over the years and to disregard this crude attempt to harm the excellent reputation we have worked so hard to build up.

WE loved the people, the atmosphere and the hospitality at Riad Linda. Rashid, Wadir and ofcourse Linda herself were just so hospitable and welcoming. Morocco is a shock to the system and this was our first trip there and we just did'nt know what to expect. Rashid helped us and guided us along the way. THe place was quiet and very clean, airy and the rooms and beds very comfortable.

Riad Linda is probably the first place I have stayed that has compelled me to write a review! Despite relying on Trip Advisor for numerous travel tips I have never gotten around to doing it.

Absolutely amazing hospitality from the lovely people at Riad Linda that made our stay In Marrakech a great one. My friend and I both agree that our experience would have been completely different without them.

From the minute we booked the accommodation, Linda was kind enough to email some very handy tips. Nothing was ever too much trouble. We arranged for the airport transfer and so glad we did, we never would have found it in the dark but don't let this put you off! It is ideally located to Jemaa El Fna less than 5 minute walk . Most points of interest are within walking distance.

A wealth of knowledge from Linda and Rachid, giving recommendations to places we never would have found on our own, namely Hammam Ziani which was a highlight. Everything from arranging restaurant bookings and walking us there to gifts of home remedies for one of my ailments. Clean and spacious rooms with en-suite like the pictures. Fresh, delicious and varied breakfasts every morning on the rooftop. Everything we needed and hoped for delivered with the biggest smiles, an absolute delight to stay at Riad Linda!

I highly recommend this and will be back again for sure.

Thank you Linda, Rachid, Wadeer and Fadila for making our trip to Marrakech a great one.

I am sure that our holiday in Marrakech would not have been as half as enjoyable had we stayed in a modern hotel outside the city walls. Linda and her team are so genuinely welcoming, nothing was too much trouble for them, and the tagine cookery course is highly recommended!
