“Summer Break”
Reviewed July 10, 2012

On arrival ( 4/07/12) we were given Morrocan Tea which was different but nice, a map of the area.

A previous comment on here about air condiioning being turned off if you dont eat her seems strange as other guests ate out and no comments about this were said. We had the control to turn on or off in our room.

We had an enjoyable stay at this Riad and found the staff to be very helpful and freindly. My wife and I had not been to Marrakesh previously and found the 40 degrees heat overpowering. The Riad is found by going along narrow side paths but once inside it was pleasant, clean. I can truely say the bed was the most comfortable i had slept in. The Riad was very quiet both day and night. We ate in the resturant on a couple of occasions and the food was very good. Try the Morroccan Soup, if you like red wine try the local Morrocan, it is full bodied and very tasty to the palate. The breakfast consists of a large bowl of fresh fruit, bread / cake , tea or coffee.

Finding the Riad is very testing and strongly recommend letting the Riad sort your taxi from the airport and to the airport out. Our taxi was sorted out by my travel agent but the Riad uses the same ones.

Walking the 20 minutes to the main square through the narrow street of a souk was a daunting task with mopeds, moter bikes flying past you both ways. Crossing the roads was a nightmare. Be very careful if you have young children.

Becareful if you take photos of anyone they will demand money. We asked someone the way on the map and he followed us for ages wanting money to take us. There were to girls aged about 23 who were very frightened as they were followed and pestered they were also ripped off 100 dirham each for taking a photo.

Thank to Damien and his team as we enjoyed our short break.

This was our favorite hotel during our stay in Morocco. Marrakesh's streets can give you a head-ache with the hustle and bustle but when you walk through the doors of this wonderfully, meticulously renovated Riad, you can almost hear a pin drop. Although we were the loud Americans and had to be told on several occasions to be more quiet, we were a group of 7, they did so with good humor.
We ate dinner on the roof of the Riad twice and they recommended other places for us to go and things to do, which we enjoyed. We even left our things there and took a trip into the desert to spend the night.
Oliver was funny and always ready to assist in any way.
I would highly recommend this wonderful place of refuge. The spa treatments were great too.

Room Tip: upstairs is quieter but they all tend to be quiet because they keep it quiet.

The thing that stood out for me was the friendliness of the staff who made us feel very welcome, even more so than the ownwers! The Riad is situated down a small dusty path off the main road, we wondered where we were going when we first arrived. Once isnide though it is like an oasis. It was very quiet inside, a bit like a library.

The Riad offers adequate accommodation, it's basically furnished, rather rustic in appearance. The rooms have air-con which is great, although staff would enter your room and switch it off whenever you were out.

The breakfast was very basic, coffee, a choice of 3 slices of bread/cake and a bowl of mixed fruit. Other breakfast items such as orange juice and yogurt were available at a supplement.

The roof terrace is great and offers great views of the medina, a great place to spend an evening.

The hammam is also not to be missed, you certainly come away feeling cleaner after a good scrubbing from Mohammed.

The dinner was also good, we had couscous with a good bottle of red wine, which isn't easy to find in Marrakech.

We took a trip to the waterfalls in the Ourika valley in the Atlas mountains and would certainly recommend it. The views are stunning, it's quite a trek though, be prepared to get on your hands and knees to climb in places.

I cannot believe I am even having to write such terrible feedback. I work in the travel industry selling & visiting places of all standards and so I am very open minded to a lot of reviews and complaints I read on any review website.

However, on this occasion My boyfriend & I did not experience the warm and friendly welcoming during my stay. I cannot deny that the Riad is lovely looking and well kept and and the rooms are very well presented.

Just a kind warning to those holiday makers who might be on a budget or may not want to eat or drink in the Riad for more than one night during your stay.

If you do not purchase, drinks and meals the owner(s) will turn your air conditioning unit off in your room. Yes, you did read this correct.

In 47c in June 2012, this is not the sort of hospitality I'd expect, anywhere, anytime. We had paid for a room with air con, but after two nights the air con had been switched off. My Boyfriend & I found out this was because we did not eat in the Riad the previous nights or purchase alcoholic drinks accept for our last night stay in Marrakech. This was the night the air con had been turned back on. I still stuggle to believe what I'm sayng actually happened.
No one is or should be obliged to eat or drink with-in the accommodation facility . We/ I'm so shocked with the mangers behaviour, I've put in an official complaint to the travel industry board and will be following up the case.

AlKsarRiad, Front Office Manager at Al Ksar Riad & Spa, responded to this review, July 20, 2012
The Riad firmly disagrees with the client statement. No one from the staff or management is authorized to switch off Air Cond.

The client has declared to our Guardian a failure in Air cond/heater system at 1am on 26th. Our staff provided a fan to the guest. A mobile air cond device was also available. The Air Cond has been FIXED by a technician at 11am on 27th who declared that the fuses melt due to unproper use by the user (client) switching on heater and reversing to air cond.

The real discomfort of the client is more likely to come from the fact that a member of staff did not store the client personal drinks and food bought outside the hotel in our fridges for hygienic reasons nore provided as well ice cubes for the client's personal drinks taken in the room. The Riad is pleased to offer FREE breakfast, FREE air cond and FREE wifi.

Our Hotel regrets that this client was not aware of personal food and drinks policies that apply to major hotels, and has not reported any claim regarding the critical situation described. Our Hotel hasen't received any claim from any agency either as mentioned by the client.

The Riad takes very seriously and immediately all claims but rejects unreal and detrimental stories not verified and posted in order to arm its reputation. The majority of good reviews posted by our guests, who have always enjoyed our rooms with air cond and hot water, will certainly confirm our quality and professionalism.

My friend Emilia and I spent 3 days at Al Ksar Riad and Spa. We had to modify our trip plans and the owners were very understanding and helpful. We had a wonderful time and ended up eating dinner there 2 nights. The meals were delicious and the owners were friendly, helpful and charming. I enjoyed having conversations with them. The Riad is quiet and the rooms are spacious with a balcony attached to the room and a garden area to relax in and have drinks. The breakfast was delicious as well. We would definitely go back and stay there again and highly recommend it. C'etait magnifique!!!

My husband and I stayed for 3 nights in feb 2012. We were met at the airport and delivered safely to the Al Ksar, luckily we did book a pick up, as I'm not sure how easily we'd have found it!
Damien and Olivier are the perfect hosts, and have done a wonderful job of renovating the Riad, The rooms are clean, big, and well equipped, and at night it's dark and quiet...perfect contrast to the hustle and bustle of the city center!
Highly recommend the hamman and massage.
The roof terrace is beautiful, with glorious views, and soon to be a plunge pool!
The staff were very helpful, efficient and friendly, and we're looking forward to a repeat visit, this time with kids.

Room Tip: There are 3 interconnecting rooms..perfect if, like us , you'd like to take children next time...

This is a wonderful riad in the heart of Marrkech, 10 minutes walk south from the main Jemaa el fna square. On arrival my partner and I (gay couple) instantly felt somewhere special and were served tea while introduced to what Marrakech had on offer. Our room was superb and the service excellent. A request for afternoon tea and cake on the roof terrace in the sun was no problem and served almost straight away. Damien also organised a day trip for us with very short notice and arranged for us to be dropped off at our next hotel without a problem. As with all riads they can be hard to find so if you are new to Marrakech it would be worth taking up the offer of airport collection. Or you can throw yourself in to it and follow the instructions carefully - of course the locals will be "very keen" to help you - they will expect about 20-30 dirham each - although they will ask for nothing, then later ask for a 100! But be firm and smile and it is fine. A wonderful place, a wonderful riad.

Room Tip: We had room one and it was lovely
