I had been in Marrakesh for two days at a different hostel, and I was feeling really exasperated. I was ready to leave Morocco but I couldn't for another day. Then I got to this hostel for my last night. I showed up very early in the morning, around 10 am, and was worried that that would be too early. But Ali, one of the "faces" of Hostel Rouge warmly welcomed me in, offering tea and breakfast leftovers, and also introduced me to the large group of travelers there. I think the general positive atmosphere of the place makes strangers into good friends, even if you only get to spend one night there. Ali and the rest of the staff at the hostel helped me immensely and made my time there so enjoyable. It was very hard to leave. It actually sounds weird calling them "staff" because I see them as more of my friends. I really wish I had stayed all three nights at this hostel, and I can safely say this hostel is definitely the best in Marrakesh, if not in the hosteling world.

Room Tip: You might be able to sleep on the roof, but if not see if you can get a room higher up, because they are more ventilated, I think.

This hostel is by far the best i've ever stayed at. The people there were so nice, i feel like we became BFFs and i was only there like 3 days. ;) it was beautifully decorated (i think in the berber style but not sure), all colourful and bohemian, and you can sleep in a private shared room or on the roof terrace, u can basically do what you like. its really safe too, i just left my bag out on the roof terrace and it was totally fine. oh and you can have as much tea and shisha as you like... for freeee!!! And of course, Ali was the best. I loved it how he felt totally comferable to wear pink nail varnish. ;) If i ever went back to marrakech I would totally stay there again.
lots of love,
Louise.xxx

Room Tip: all the rooms are simple but great. and sleeping on the roof is really nice too. they are all really affordable aswell.

Hostel Riad Marrakech Rouge is a wonderful hostel - and a lot of that has to do with the fantastic staff.

The are a number of extremely well decked out chill out areas - a cushy central courtyard downstairs, some more lounges on one floor and a massive terrace area upstairs. Everything is decorated very much in the traditional morrocan style and looks amazing. You are able to have as much tea and hookah as you like and it makes for a wonderful social atmosphere - it's extremely easy to meet new people as you all share a puff on the hookah pipe!

Ali and all of the rest of the staff are incredible, nothing is too much trouble. They even went to the effort of going for several big trips on a motorbike in order to find some tickets for a bunch of us who wanted to go to an international soccer match that was being played.

Besides the amazing chill out areas and staff, the two different rooms we have stayed in have been great and very comfy. The shared bathrooms are basic but pretty clean and I've enjoyed some nice hot showers.

A truly special place!

We were tipped off about this Riad by some other travellers we met in a horrible Riad across town.

When we arrived, they were welcoming with delicious mint tea and straight away advised they could find a place for us. Even though we hadn't booked, they managed to squeeze us in on the sofa beds that were near the stairs. Although this wasn't technically a room, this was a thousand times better than the place we left.

The staff were brilliant, especially Ali who never seemed to sleep. They arranged a Sahara trip for us and allowed us to leave our bags at the Riad.

Riad Rouge was a little oasis of calm in what can be an intense city. Having this place a base meant we changed our opinion on Marrakech. I wouldn't hesitate to return.

If I'm honest, the facilities were basic. The showers were a bit run down, the breakfast was simple but for the price it can't be beaten. We have recommended this place to countless friends who have all enjoyed their stay.

Yes, a private room would have been nicer but turning up at the door without booking and being made to feel welcome was priceless.

Room Tip: Book ahead to get a room. Or, turn up as we did to get a comfy bed that was on the landing.
