“Good, but not the best”
Reviewed April 26, 2011

The Negatives:
- I don't believe it is the best value accomodation in Marrakech (Our friend was staying at Equity Point and we regretted not joining him there when we saw the quality of the establishment and the better location (and price)).

- We felt quite confronted on returning home to find an email reminding us to put a positive review on Trip Advisor (surely the point of reviews are that they are candid).

- The bathroom at Dar Massai had that fungal smell that comes from water not flushing property and unfortunately this smell spread throughout the room.

- The meal (at €18 for food and €3 for drinks) is probably not as good value compared to what is available outside the convenience of the Riad.

The Positives:
- We slept really well, with shutters to blacken out the room and dampen the noise

- The pool (only for dipping) was a welcome relief from the heat

- The staff were very friendly, e.g. they helped us to get a snack from down the road when we arrived late at night.

Me and my girlfriend stayed here for 3 days as a birthday present for her and neither of us were disappointed at any time. The manager (Youssef) was excellent at answering any questions before we arrived via email and was very helpful in organising transfers etc. Admittedly, when you step out of the taxi, there is 2 minute walk through some chaotic back streets which can be a bit disconserting, but quickly adds to the charm.Upon arrival we were given tea and Youssef had leftasurprise birthday message and card for mygirlfreind (which was a nice touch without me asking!!) The whole place was immaculate and well looked after, and the breakfast was excellent. Also, on our last day, I was not feeling well- and although our flight was late, I was welcomed to stay in the lounge area whilethey provided me with more tea!! Very obliging, nice and helpful...a definite place to return to.

Very kind and great service! The Riad is very beautiful, clean, and well located. Recommend it to anyone looking to stay somewhere special and not in a regular hotel.

Dar Massai is a small, quiet, comfortable retreat, just off a busy part of the city and a shortish walk from Marrakech centre, The rooms are rather small but very comfortable and the whole riad is elegantly presented. Breakfasts, usually on the roof, were tasty, local and generous and you can arrange an evening meal, which we found delicious! The owner and staff were very friendly and helpful, advising us on where to shop and eat and storing our surplus luggage when we went away for a few days. We certainly hope to return and can confidently recommend Dar Massai .

Stayed here for four nights with a friend in february, in a room on top of the riad with a direct entrance to the roof terrace. The room was nice and clean, the staff very friendly.
Eating breakfast just outside the room in the sun on the terrace was very nice! Twice we had a lovely evening meal at the riad, and can recommend to use this service. Finding a decent place to eat in the Marrakech medina at night isn´t the easiest thing to do because of the crowdiness and people constantly offering restaurant services in a quite aggressive way. Better then to eat a freshly prepared, personal dinner in the quiet, tranquil riad.
The location is very good, near the Saadian Tombs and a short walk to Jemaa el Fna and the souks. The Bouchaïb mall in Rue de la Kasbah is only two minutes walk from the riad and perfect if you want to shop without the hassling in the souks. The staff at the riad is also helpful with excursions to the Atlas mountains and places like Aït Benhaddou and Ouarzazate.
The only negative thing was that there were some difficulties with paying by credit card, which we were not informed about on beforehand. Everything was sorted out, but it was a bit stressful to deal with such things just before departure. So: ask about the way of payment on arrival. Otherwise the stay at Riad Dar Massai was a true pleasure, and I recommend it warmly!
