“Perfect Oasis”

An absolutely gorgeous riad that you'd never know was there. As other reviews have mentioned Patrice the manager is the real star - totally attentive and a great source of recommendations for local restaurants, bars and excursions. Only 5 minutes from the Souks and even less to the fantastic eating places that are : Riad 72, Maison d'Arable and Le Comptoir du Pacha. Also only 10 minutes by taxi from Le Jardin Majorelle (a real 'must see').

The sun terrace on the 2nd floor is perfect for catching the rays. It is actually bigger than it looks on the official photos and during our 7 night stay we had it all to ourselves!

Just a couple of observations regarding the comments concerning this riad being difficult to find : a. yes it is at first b. but you soon get to find your way round though c. if, as we did, you book your transfer in advance the taxi company phones the hotel from the drop off place and someone comes to collect you from the riad (in reverse for the journey back to the airport)

We would definitely return !

Patrice and his staff were so welcoming and accommodating and couldn't do enough to ensure our stay was pleasant and enjoyable. The Riad is like an oasis right in the middle of the of the old town and we could not quiet believe how quiet it was once we were in the Riad. It has been beautifully restored and is a haven for tranquility which was much needed following the hectic delights of Marrakesh. I am already missing the wonderful breakfast on the roof top terrace!

From when I booked on line Patrice couldn't have been more helpful. We were collected from the airport and taken to the riad. There we were met by Omar who works for Patrice, we were given mint tea and pastries on arrival which were very nice. By the time we had unpacked Patrice had arrived to talk us through the riad. Beautiful roof terrace for sunbathing and breakfast, our room was probably the smallest but was more than adequate, very clean and showers always nice and hot, free shampoo and shower gel which is handy to know if you're travelling only with hand luggage.
Breakfast was nice simple and varied. Patrice's directions were perfect making it easy to get out to the souks.
The riad offered dinner which although we didn't have always smelt lush !. They also offered traditional hamman spa but again we didn't have this we decided to support other businesses.
The Riad is very quiet, there a only 6 or 7 rooms and even when occupied you don't really see each other.
Location is perfect, it's 15 mins to the main sqaure by the main road but .........could be 2 hours through the souks !!!

I can't comment on other riads but having gone to the new town one night I'd sooner spend my break in the heart of marrekech, not in some modern soulless hotel.
Patrice was always friendly, talkative and interested in your day but wasn't overbearing.

I would definitely return

As for Marrakech it is simply a wonderful place, so much vibrancy and variety. I never really felt unsafe at any point but then again I'm 6'5. Two female travellers may find it overwhelming as some not all locals can be very intimidating. All I would say is two things
1. Never let anyone show you directions 'for free' it's never free, ask a shop for directions if desperate
2. Don't walk anywhere alone at night
3. Barter, barter barter !!!
Criticisms

An honesty bar/fridge would have been ideal, for instance coming back at midnight and wanting a coffee, beer, water or a nightcap would have been ideal. Making a note of what you drank and then settling your bill at the end. Although Omar was around it wasn't every night.
There are no fridges so if you buy your own water there is no where to store it, secondly as the price is high end I would have thought complimentary water would not have been to much to ask

Having said all that I loved it !!!

Just back from a 4 night stay and blown away by Marrkech and very happy with the riad. However, it is almost impossible to find without a guide. Unfortunately, although we agreed with the taxi driver from the airport that he would take us to the door (or as close as you can get in a car) we were set down what seemed like miles away in the medina. The GPS didn't work on the iPad, I suppose the buildings block the signal, so we paid a lad to take us there and even he got a bit lost and it was about a 20 min walk with our luggage. Once there though, we were made very welcome by Patrice who brought mint tea and pastries. The place is clean, comfortable, delicious breakfasts and well located for the souks, medina, Fna, Katoubia etc. Recommended.

Room Tip: Arrange your transfer from the airport in advance or you'll get lost

Pros: Service excellent (Patrice was very helpful and sorted out our transfers when Jet2 let us down), breakfast superb and changed every day - enjoyed on the roof terrace, free wifi, central location, dinner really good - felt like private dining on the roof terrace, good strong air con, very clean and peaceful with a lovely plunge pool in the courtyard

Cons: Difficult to find initially but Patrice very helpful with direction, room a touch on the small side/a bit too much furniture in it, our bathroom a bit dark

Conclusion: very good, would highly recommend. Made a real difference to our stay in Marrakech

We spent a long weekend in Marrakech to celebrate TB's birthday and booked Ambre et Epices and after a few emails with Patrice, requested the Trésor de Chine room, on the first floor.

We had a great time staying here, it's small enough to feel like a real guest home, but there is plenty of space to spread out and relax in the sun. Patrice and the rest of the staff are very welcoming and attentive - helping us to make restaurant bookings, helpful hints on attractions, and providing some champagne for a special birthday breakfast treat (there was even some singing!) If you want a chilled night without leaving the Riad, the team can also prepare a delicious traditional Moroccan meal for you, finished off with a glass of wine by the fire.

Like most buildings in the city, all the rooms face into the centre of the riad, meaning no exterior view. Heavy wooden doors are closed at night ensure that you're not woken to early by light, however in Marrakech, you're more likely to be woken by the early calls to prayer - this is unavoidable in the city centre, so pack earplugs if you're worried about getting a full night's sleep. The rooms are also individually decorated, so you can pick the one that best suits your taste.

If you're bad with directions, make sure you take detailed notes on how to find Ambre et Epices... you get the hang of it after a while, but it's not the easiest place to find.

Room Tip: The Tresor de Chine room is on the first floor and has an extra-long bath!

We have recently returned from a five night stay in this riad. As other travelers have stated it would be impossible to find on your own but we were met by Abdul who escorted us Up the small alleyways to the riad. Once inside the door we were greeted by Patrice who along with all the other staff Abdul, Fatima and the girl who cleans the rooms works extremely hard to make sure your every need is catered for. The riad itself is an oasis of peace and tranquility! Much appreciated after the madness, hustle and bustle of Marrakech. It is tastefully decorated in cool colors, each bedroom being individually designed, I would liken it to a small boutique hotel. We stayed half board, breakfast was served on the roof terrace and was different every day, being a mixture of either delicious fresh yogourt or fresh strawberries or eggs along with delicious breads and pastries. Evening meals were three course and we had home made soup, or Moroccan salad to start (highly recommended) followed by a different tagine either chicken or beef, desert was usually light, either poached pears or oranges or creme caramel, all freshly prepared. Patrice is extremely knowledgable and helpful about navigating around Marrakech and even arranged our return pick up to the airport. All in all a little gem, highly recommended and if I were to return to Marrakech I would definitely stay here.
