“Simply Divine... BOOK IT!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2012

Having just returned from a 4 night stay at the Riad Ambre et Epices, I can honestly say it is one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever stayed in. After carefully debating about staying in a larger hotel further out of the city centre or a smaller traditional riad, we plumped for the riad, and we were not disappointed. After reading other reviews we decided not to go for an airport transfer and hopped in a taxi at the airport, this was much more reasonably priced, we paid about £14.00 to get there and about £7 to return (after getting into the swing of the haggling). Despite being down several narrow streets, once Patrice showed us directions to and from the hotel it was incredibly straight forward. The location of the riad could not be better, nearly all main attractions are within walking distance, and over our short stay we managed to pack in all the main attractions and a day trip to Ourika valley. We had half board at the hotel, and the food was as fabulous as the surrounds, we ate breakfast and dinner up on the roof terrace, and both meals had a good amount of variety and exceptional quality. The hotel was wonderfully decorated, traditionally but with a modern twist, it was impeccably clean and on arrival we were upgraded to the suite. Our room was lovely and overlooked the gorgeous dipping pool on the ground floor. The staff very attentive without being suffocating, all of our needs were met. Despite other comments we has hot water throughout our stay and were provided with delicious smelling Moroccan toiletries.. The staff and the quality of the hotel, helped make our trip truly perfect and I can’t think of anywhere id have rather stayed.

Tips – Take a third off nearly everything in Morocco, you have to haggle in the market, for taxi’s, for trips and for callache rides. Once you walk away, they soon meet your price.

Don’t book trips or taxi’s through the hotel, they are very over priced and there is a taxi rank very nearby where it is very easy to book a taxi. There is also a tour company called Mami Tours, which does really great deals on trips, its situated to the right of the taxis, and the lady who works in the office speaks fantastic English.

Bring a pen for the airport! We wish someone had told us this, as there’s a form to fill in at arrival to the airport and no pens are provided, we had to wait around for 15mins until we found someone willing enough to lend us one, then wait another 5mins to get another pen for my boyfriend’s form, nightmare!!

The lovely peaceful riad was a bit hard to find and I would recommend a pre booked airport transfer. Taxis are a hassle in Marrakesh and the kids hassle you for tips which is not a nice welcome. The rooms are very nice and neutrally decorated with Moroccan touches. It was very hot in June, so you can return to the quiet of the riad for a rest during the heat of the day as you're close to all the main attractions.
Patrice the manager was an excellent host and nothing was too much trouble.
I would stay here again as it gives you a more authentic experience than a large hotel in the new city.

We stayed here for 3 nights. Patrice, the owner, offered a warm and friendly welcome which continued throughout our stay. Nothing was too much trouble. Rooms are lovely and kept to a very high standard. Staff always have a friendly smile. The Riad was hidden near the souks and was a calm oasis in the heart of the real Marrakech. We are really pleased we chose this as our base as it made our trip as special as it was.

When you first arrive in Marrakech, you might wonder where on earth you're being taken to to get to the Riad, it is down a few alleys! But once you get there, it is a beautiful place.
Don't let the alleyways concern you, you soon realise it's actually very simple to find your way, and very safe.

Patrice the owner met us immediately and we were served tea and breakfast with a map and local directions!
He and his staff made themselves available at all times and were happy to help with anything.

Rooms: we had a room on the first floor, whilst it was very small, it had everything we needed and the decor was lovely, everything very clean and kept that way daily.
The only downside is due to the nature of a riad, it can be quite noisy if a noisy family is in.
We did feel we had to keep our voices down a bit once we realised how much we could hear others.

Food: Amazing. Wonderful breakfasts, lovely selection of breads, pastries, pancakes, eggs, the selection changed daily too. Served with fresh juice and coffee.
We also chose to dine in on the first night - ordered soup and tagines. Again the quality of the food was delicious, it was just a bit quiet as we were dining alone. Still - we got exceptional service!!

Location: a 10 minute walk south to the jemma el f'na and souks which was perfect. 15 minutes north/west you could be in Gueliz. Gueliz is a more modern area and has shops such as Zara in a new shopping area that's been built, oh and not surprisingly there is also a McDonalds!

Perfect for a short break, you'd probably want to head out or do more day trips for anything longer than 3 days.

We stayed in the Trésor de Chine room for two nights and loved it! The room is not that big, but we liked the color and the simple, modern decor. The most important thing is that the bed and the bathroom are nice and clean! It has the western-standard amenities. I was thrilled to see that there was a hair dryer in the room, which was not available in most of the riads we stayed in Morocco.

Room Tip: The Trésor de Chine room is on the second floor.

Stunning interior and warm welcome from Patrice. Great aircon and the best bed we've stayed in for a long while - so very comfortable with silky sheets (very high thread count!). We stayed in the Suite Racines. Abdul was incredibly helpful and showed us to the square on the first night. Lovely breakfasts, with the main ingredient changing each day so there was a variety of things to try. Roof terrace was sunny and relaxing and we enjoyed our complimentary mint tea and pastries there most afternoons. Treated myself to the private hammam and it was awesome! Just wish my French was a little better so that I could have told Abdul and the Hammam lady how good I thought they were. Patrice has a good level of English. This was the first place we stayed during our trip to Morocco (February), and was far and away the best place we stayed.

Room Tip: Suite Racines was lovely - private, great bed and with a stylish bathroom

Hidden spot in Marrakesh. Very comfortable, high class, excellent breakfast, super nice rooms, service and hospitality. Patrice, the owner made us feel as if we where home. The best of the attentions, great tips to move around Marrakesh. Mint tea and three course dinner to die for. The decor is all about details. Splendid!

Room Tip: Any of the rooms is an excellent choice. The ones on the first floor have a great view of the inside...
