“Excellent Service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 23, 2014

We visited Marrakech as a group of five 40-something female friends to celebrate a big birthday for one of our group. We chose Riad Chi Chi on the basis of the photos and the reviews and we were not disappointed. You could not be better placed to visit the souk as the Riad is situated virtually in the middle of it but this does not mean that it is noisy. It is very tranquil and you would not know that it is all going on outside the main door! The Riad is situated down an alley which was initially intimidating but it was very well lit at night and the locals were all very friendly. The service throughout our stay was excellent from the moment of arrival at the airport. The Riad arranged for us to be met by a driver who transferred us to porters who took our luggage and us straight to the Riad. Throughout our stay Saleh who runs the riad could not have been more helpful. He always offered to escort us if we needed to find our way, he booked restaurants for us and even waited up every night to make sure we got safely home. We had a fantastic meal at the Riad one night and breakfast was always good and served at whatever time we surfaced. The Riad was spotlessly clean and the rooms very comfortable. There seem to be thousands of riads in Marrakech but we would recommend this riad to anyone. We do not think you could get better service anywhere else.

Room Tip: We stayed in the two suites Aubergine and Ivory. As suites they were not particularly large so we p...

Riad Chi Chi is run by the attentive, charming and very hard-working Saleh who was always there to help including walking us to taxi ranks and generally showing us around the Medina, providing advice and making bookings. As well as Saleh’s wonderful service – literally available to guests from early morning to late at night –the riad is a lovely space with indoor and outdoor terraces and lots of nooks to enjoy. It’s also spotless. We stayed in the Indigo room which was light and airy and very comfortable with good internet connection, and the location, smack-bang in the middle of the Medina, could not have been better. Finally, everything you read about haggling in Marrakech is true but how hard do you want to haggle when many of the people you deal with are earning around $10 a day. That said, you do need to be alert to the tricks used to part you from your money – and there are many – so read up before you go. But the people are warm and friendly and good-natured and I never felt anything but safe.

Riad Chi-Chi is a quiet comfortable riad in the heart of the Medina. The staff are very helpful, even lending us a phone to ring them up when we got lost.

Yes, you will get lost! The medina is a maze of streets and alleyways and it is very difficult to navigate. Actually Riad Chi-Chi is fairly easy to find if you find the Musee Marrekech, and navigate from there.

Our room at Chi-Chi was very comfortable, and had the best shower I have had for a while.

I would be happy to stay at riad Chi-Chi again.

Stayed here back in November for a weekend, absolutely beautiful!

Located in the center of the Medina just a 10 minute walk from Place Jmaal Efna, Museums and Palaces are but a short walking distance from there.

Room was very comfortable, staff were adorable and over welcoming, and the food... Yumm :D

I will be returning in 3 months with family for a week, can't wait.

Room Tip: Just ask Yvonne to recommend for you, she's forever helpful for any information. Thank you agai...

Good:
- Nicely decorated Riad.
- Friendly welcome at reception.

Bad:
- Very difficult to find in the Medina's maze. At the day of arrival, make sure that the people from the hotel come and look for you. The other days, you are on your own.
- Small rooms with windows and doors opening up to the inner court, where people will be having breakfast and/or dinner. So, expect that others can hear whatever is being said in your room.
- Breakfast was quite austere.
- (Less important) Wifi only worked correctly in the reception area (an area of 3 square meter)

Summary
- Friendly staff and nice building, but the Riad has a few too many inherent flaws to justify the price. My suggestion would be to compare this Riad with other available options before making a decision.

Room Tip: Better choose a room on the first floor, as they have more privacy.

We had high expectations after reading the other comments on Tripadvisor. Being it the last stop on our trip, we had booked a room at Chi-Chi to indulge ourselves before returning home. However, it became quite a disappointment.

Negative:
* We knew that the Riad was quite hidden within the Medina. However, we did not know that it was that difficult (and time consuming) to find it. The owners had told us that the staff would come and pick us up. Unfortunately, that did not happen. Instead of using our time to discover the Medina, we had too wait for too much time at the pick-up point before someone of the staff came to pick us up (despite several phone calls).
* Rooms at the ground floor open up to the patio. This is ok in other Riads, but in Chi-Chi's case the patio is where breakfast and dinner are served. Moreover, our room was quite a bit smaller than the photos on the website tend to indicate. Therefore, it is better to avoid the rooms on the ground floor and choose one of the rooms at the first floor.
* The food at breakfast was very limited. Bread, butter and marmalade. That's it.

Positive:
* The Riad has been well restored and decorated with great taste.

Summary: For us, it wasn't worth it. A pity.

Room Tip: Avoid ground floor rooms. Best to choose a room on the first floor: More spacious and less noice of...

It is the first time we have been obliged to answer to a review of this kind. We welcome all feedback and use it to improve in any way we can.

We feel the extreme negativity in this review warranted response on our part.

We can well understand why the rooms were made to seem too small and breakfast was described as poor , and that the review was made in Spanish and in English.

Such aggression is distressing. These ladies were frustrated that we would not refund their total night’s stay for the room.

Sadly having only one night in Marrakech and getting totally lost on arrival is not a good Mixture. We do provide detailed arrival details for our guests and hundreds of guests arrive by car and are met at the appointed drop off point without incident.

Previous reviews are also testament To our wonderful breakfasts. Described as a veritable feast by some guests. We can understand the frustration of waiting 1 hour in the wrong place. Marrakech is a big busy city, but none the less our staff manage to arrange the meeting up point with hundreds of guests , and we are only sorry that in this case the guests got totally lost and it took our staff some time to find them.

Our Guardiens Fettah and Saleh , who you will see mentioned in so many of the wonderful reviews previously, waited a long time and then desperately tried to find the guests before returning to the riad to wait for another call from them. The guests lost one hour of Marrakech and we can understand the frustration , we empathise with their frustration.

However, in this case I can say confidently that our staff did everything in their power to find the guests and get them to the riad. Albeit at 6h30 pm rather than 5h30 pm. We can assure our guests we shall always endeavour to maintain the very high standard of service which has been our trademark for many years.

We look forward to welcoming you to Riad Chi Chi in 2014

We quickly arrived to Riad Chi Chi after being picked up from the airport and anyone knows that the little alleyways in the Medina can be pretty overwhelming upon first arrival, but we were pleasantly surprised that all the chaos was left at the door when we entered Riad Chi Chi. We had a room on the ground floor and thought it might be noisy or lacked privacy, but it was fine all night long, besideds the occasional door shutting here and there. The room was small, but met all our needs and the shower was perfectly warm. Breakfast was really terrific and plentiful and the service was really above average. We would stay there again for all the above reasons, but more, after we became familar with the Medina, we liked the location of Riad Chi Chi far better than the other riads we stayed at.

Room Tip: Perhaps you'd want to stay on the second floor for slightly more privacy.
