The Hotel Hasna wouldn't be the first choice hotel for most holidaymakers visiting Marrakech as it's neither a riad hotel or part of a major chain. But for those not too bothered about where they stay other than it should be safe, affordable and reasonably convenient, the Hasna is worth considering. It's situated about five minutes' walk from the shops and cafes of "downtown" Marrakech and about 25 minutes' walk from Jemaa el Fna - "the big square". (By taxi, it's only about five minutes and it's very cheap: about 15 dirhams; not much more than UK£1.) The reception staff were not exactly what you would call welcoming and my room looked rather dated. They could definitely do with improving the lighting and making sure the heating/air conditioning works properly. But there was a tv, mini-fridge, safe and telephone and the shower fitting above the bath offered nice, hot water. Breakfast was pretty modest: just a croissant and a roll with butter and jam but it came with reasonably decent coffee and freshly-squeezed orange juice. It wouldn't take much to make this hotel really quite attractive but one gets the impression nobody can be bothered to make the effort. So I certainly wouldn't rush back. On the other hand, it provided a reasonably pleasant overnight stay.
