I wanted to stay at Dar Silsila (see reviews), but it was full, so I stayed in the riad just down the street.
I have stayed in several hotels and riads in Marrakech. This was one of the friendliest, most welcoming, and best value for money I have been to.
Riad Kechmara (Marra -kech bacwards) is owned and run by an international couple George (french) and Fati (moroccan). They really went out of their way to give us the real Moroccan experience, making sure that we were happy and wanting for nothing,
We were met by a chauffer at the airportg and accompanied to the riad, given mint tea and shown our rooms. At least one of the staff spoke fluent english.
They riad is very comfortable and morocan style with all the normal comforts we are used to. There is a pool in the center of the patio and all the rooms look on the central courtyard patio from the balcony. Each room is authentically decorated, each with its own distinctive moroccan style, and all have an en-suite bathroom.
The rooms are clean and comfortable and are furnished with local funiture.
There are several living rooms/Dining rooms. Meals including local dishes are available and served in the dining room. TYhe food is very good quality and authentic. Fati used to be a restauranteur in Paris.
Fati and George went out of their way organising trips and excusions, getting reservations for trips etc. They took us out one night wwith them to sample some of the local nightlife. I was really struck by this...I have never been to any hotel or guest house where the owners took us out.
I have no hestitation recommending this riad, espcially to the first time visitor to Marrakech.
