We booked our short 4 night break on the strength of previous excellent reviews and we were not disappointed. Booking was simple and the communication prior to arriving was excellent in confirming some questions we had.
We originally umd arrd about getting a taxi to the hotel as on other short breaks in other cities we have been very comfortable and able to either caught a bus or train etc andfind our own way.
Phillip our host suggested we should take a taxi as we had never been to Marrakech before, and he would be able to arrange for us to be met at the airport if we chose to go by taxi.
My advice if you have never been before, particularly if you are staying in the medina area, is to always take a taxi and try and arrange it via your riad / hotel. I am sure we would never have found it particularly as
Bouganvillers is tucked away in a series of side streets which can only be reached on foot for the final part of the journey. we were met by our taxi and driven to a crowded mad market place, met by a man with a barrow who gestured for us to follow as he pushed our luggage deep into the maze of back streets.
Never having been to Marrakech before we were beginning to worry where we were being taken as we hurried to keep up with our luggage as it made its way through the maze and hoards of people squeezing into the back streets.
We arrived at a large door, surely this cant we be our Riad !!, the bell was rung and we were very relieved to be greeted by Monsef who with a beeming smile, welcomed us into what can only be described as a beautiful calm oasis in a medina of mazes & madness.
The Riad is just lovely, stylish, beautiful, calming etc etc.. read all the reviews, they are right.. The staff are divine, polite, helpful etc etc etc believe the reviews.
This oasis of calm is an ideal perfect place to stay if you are planning a trip to central Marrakech. It is located a 5 minute strole (half hour if you stop at every stall shop or street seller) from jemaa el-fna square, which is the heart of the medina and the beginning of your cultural / shopping experience.
One word of warning be careful, I had my camera stolen in the main square, (it was my fault) for 10 seconds I left my bag open when I was taking a picture of the gorgeous sunset with an ipad, and 2 young thieves dipped my bag and ran away with my camera. It did not though spoil our stay, 2 other young men had seen it happen and took us to the nearby police station and were able to explain what had happened, sufficient for a 'crime report' to be obtained re insurance.
Lastly believe the reviews.. you will not be disappointed. We intend to return to Marrakech.. guess where we will be staying !
