“an oasis of calm and luxury”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 31, 2010

After a hectic day spent navigating the souks and the clatter of snake charmers, storytellers and food stalls of Djemaa al Fna, stepping through the doorway of Riad ZamZam feels like a magical journey to a land of luxury and calm. There is the pool, scattered with rose petals, soft music playing and the welcoming staff offering a cool drink in the courtyard or on the roof terrace.
The riad has been beautifully decorated by owners Emma and Marcus with understated elegance - except maybe those tassels - which are not understated but smashing (and Emma helped us track down the tassel man so we could have some of our own)
We had a hands-on cooking class that included a visit to the local markets and a delicious meal. I can hardly wait to preserve some lemons and try these at home!
ZamZam is in a remote area of the medina, but they do a marvelous job at organizing drivers and escorting guests to and from the cars after dark.
Four nights was not enough - next time I'm staying a week!

Riad Zamzam is a truly amazing place. We loved everything about it. The atmosphere is so calm and relaxing, and the owners, Marcus and Emma together with their team are so friendly and welcoming and nothing was ever too much of a problem. They really care about their guests and always made fantastic restaurant recommendations. We were two girls travelling alone, so the staff at the Riad made sure that every evening we were escorted to the taxi and back (no matter what time it was). The breakfast was absolutely delicious and we were always offered Moroccan tea which we would have on the roof terrace. Every room has its own special theme - the lighting is just incredible. On our first day we were asked whether we would like a guide to take us around the Medina and we would definitely recommend using the guide.

We absolutely loved Riad Zamzam and would definitely go back.

Wow. I spent 4 days/nights at ZamZam Oct. 13-19 in Marrakech and LOVED IT! Yes, the location in the north end of the Medina is about 25 min on foot to the souks and Jemma el Fna Square, but the upside is this: you are in a real Medina neighborhood, chock full of locals living their daily life and that alone made the location great. The other big plus is owners Emma and Marcus Joyston-Bechal and their staff. The hospitality and helpfulness was second-to-none. Iman and Faisal, the day and night managers, attended to our every need, including the coordination of a car and driver to get us to the souks, the Square and various restaurants. Since ZamZam is not directly accessible by car (a car can only go so far before the streets get too narrow and labyrynthine), you have to walk maybe 5 minutes from car drop-off spot to Zam Zam. Each time we returned from dinner at night, our car was met by Aziz, and he walked us back to the riad - much appreciated. We also took a cooking class and were joined by two fun Brit couples, and the whole experience was just enormous fun. We walked to the neighborhood market area and purchased ingredients - vegetables, fruits, chickens, etc. Then we set about making a selection of Moroccan salads and tagines for lunch. It was fun, we learned a lot and the food (if I do say so myself!) was delicious! Rooms are cozy and beautifully appointed. We had breakfast each morning on the roof terrace (those m'simon - Moroccan "pancakes" that you eat with butter or jam or honey - were delicious, as was the yogurt w/ pomegranate seeds, but you can order omelettes if you want, too) and it was beautiful. The "dada" (or cook) even procured Ras al Hanout and saffron for us (for an agreed-upon # of grams / money) from the local market. Marrakech - esp in the Medina - is a mad fracas of careening motobikes, pedestrians, donkey carts, bicyclists and autos, and Zam Zam Riad was an absolutely oasis of civilized tranquility with a good dash of fun, too!

I travel extensively and have never been motivated to write a review on tripadvisor until visiting Zamzam Riad! Zamzam Riad was not only incredibly beautiful, the service was second to none, and the food was AMAZING - do yourself a favour and order a 'Zamwich'!

The team at Zamzam Riad worked diligently to make our stay very special - thank you so much and yes you'll be seeing me back at Zamzam soon!

I have stayed at Riad Zamzam twice this year, and now would like all my family & friends to go and stay there because it was such an amazing experience, both times. The riad is gorgeous, renovated with style and attention to detail. The rooms & en suites are exquisitely furnished & more than comfortable. The owners & staff do everything they can to make your stay as comfortable & enjoyable as possible, serve delicious meals & will run out to the shops for you! We were always treated with politeness & smiles, nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Various treatments were arranged for us in the spa, including traditional morrocan massage & henna tattoos.
Perhaps what is most amazing about Riad Zamzam is that it is such a tranquil place to relax & unwind, yet you step outside the door into the exciting & colourful daily life of the Medina. Riad Zamzam is the perfect way to experience marrakech.

I thoroughly enjoyed a stay in riad ZamZam. In fact I visited a few other riads during my trip and I would happily choose ZamZam again - truly charming design and decoration and good service.

If you want superb service in surroundings which have been designed for style and serenity, then go for this Riad. The location ensures you are in a local environment away from the tourists. Wonderful staff and owners help to make this a remarkable experience. Vey highly recommended - they will arrange anything for you.
