“Gorgeous riad and lovely people”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 18, 2013

Really nicely decorated riad. Soft lighting. Comfortable furnishings. Clean. There is a patio and a terrace for breakfast. When you arrive they give you a sheet with key details like taxi number and tel no of the day and night managers. The owner Marcus was really friendly. Faisal the night manager is also a complete sweet heart and came to greet us when we got lost. The only downside is that it is difficult to get to. Taxis park up about 10 min walk away. However the riad does what it can to make life easier as a result - eg Faisal comes to meet you or they offer a guide to orientate yourselves.

My wife and I recently travelled to Marakech and stayed at Zam Zam for one night. We arranged for them to send a taxi to the train station to pick us up and a staff member to gather us from the taxi drop to negotiate the short walk to the Riad. We were greeted warmly by the manager Iman and later met one of the owners Marcus. The room was wonderful; large and beautifully appointed and left us with that aaaaaahhhhhhhh feeling after a long day of sight seeing in Marakech. The service was incredible; every request was met with "of course". We had two breakfasts and a supper; at the Riad; both were excellent. The Riad can be hard to find through the myriad of alleys and Iman patiently arranged for staff (Asif or Faisul) to meet us and bring us back. The inner courtyard and roof top patio are beautiful. We took the evening train back to Tangier and were accommodated with hanging out at Zam Zam for about 3-4 hours waiting for our departure. Highly recommend Zam Zam. - it is the perfect oasis in the midst of much stimulation!

Travelling Morocco and Spain, Zamzam in Marrakesh was our first stop. We arrived in the afternoon - ZamZam organized the airport taxi - and were met by friendly Faisal, who escorted us to the hotel. We were upgraded without asking and stayed in the hotel for dinner: good choice after a day of travel! The room was stylish, comfortable, within wifi reach and the roof terrace turned out to be a great place to relax after the great but hectic souk. Every request we made was met; restaurant booking, car-with-driver, airport transfers. And the wine always had the right temperature..

Room Tip: Can't comment on the spa, no time to use it...

This being my second visit to Marrakesh I had an idea what to expect but Zam Zam exceeded those great expectations. It's like Bleeding Heart Yard in London in that it's bleeding hard to find but once you've mastered those little alleyways you reach a real oasis. The fabulous courtyard has a full size palm tree in the centre reaching through to the sky. Nobody could give you a warmer greeting than Faysal as you arrive and for the ladies in the kitchen nothing is too much trouble. The "sandwich" they rustled up just before we left for the airport was the best I've eaten.
Aziz is a sort of legend in the area so I'll post his picture in the courtyard and you can see the stunning doorway to one of the rooms. Marcus has assembled a charming staff and the place is immaculate old school Moroccan chic. Lovely rooms, huge beds, yummy breakfast and tranquility much needed after shopping in the souks!! Loved it.

I travel around the world organising parties, weddings, etc and stayed at Zamzam whilst producing a wedding in Marrakech. My driver escorted me on a mystery tour through the Medina's maze, and led me to the riad's secret entrance, but as soon as I arrived at the front door of this charming place, I knew I was in safe hands. Faisal's welcome was wonderful "This is your home now my lady", sat me down and like all good Moroccans gave me a cup of Moroccan tea. My room was cool and quiet, the bed super comfortable, breakfast was delicious and I loved all the small touches such as bath robes and monogramed towels, beautifully scented soaps, etc.

From my last minute requests, local transport arrangements, mobile phone top ups, late night food, nothing was too much trouble. Marcus and Emma, the owners of the hotel are knowledgeable and interesting so if you want the inside scoop on where to go in Marrakech then they're your go-to guys.

If you're looking for an oasis to switch off after the hullabloo of the Medina, then Zamzam's the place. The riad's bath oils scented my clothes and so my suitcase carries the sweet smells of Zamzam whereever I go next....

Zamzam Riad is a little off the beaten track , not too easy to find and accessed through a tiny unmarked passage way. And that's what makes it great. Zamzam is to Marrakesh what speakeasys were to prohibition: hidden from view but stocked full of exactly what you want.

At the North end of the Medina you wont see many, if any, other tourists but the tiny streets and passages are bustling with life and everyone one has a broad smile and a "bonjour!" as you pass.

Inside Zamzam British owners Marcus and Emma have taken great care and effort to make it both very comfortable and entirely authentic. Everything from glassware to beautiful beaten bronze lampshades are chosen with care. The central courtyard is cool ( the heat outside was 35 degrees on the days we visited) and a fountain plays in a plunge pool strewn with rose petals. Our room - the Palm Suite - was comfortable and well-equipped with a large, firm bed, high quality linen and towels and a powerful walk-in shower and air con.

There is a full Hammam and massage service ( we didnt try but heard from others that it was great) and a great roof-terrace for sunbathing with comfortable loungers and even straw hats for guests.

The staff led by Imane and brilliantly supported by Faysal are unendingly helpful - pointing you in the right direction on adventures in to the Souks or to great local restaurants and helping with taxis, trips and great advice on how to extract the maximum fun and interest during your stay.

The food is prepared by two lovely women in their small kitchen and is both entirely authentic and as good as anything we ate in the city. The Zamzam zamwich with Kefte ( meatballs) is a new contender for Last Meal.

If you like pool-side service and five star luxury chain hotels then this isn't for you. If you want an authentic and immersive experience of the true Marrakesh then I STRONGLY advise you to stay here.

Room Tip: The Palm Suite was heavenly
