Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed October 10, 2012

We just spent one week at the Al Mendili Kashba, and could not have been more satisfied with our choice of stay. The quality of the entire staff and service was outstanding, with remarkably welcoming, attentive and helpful owners and personnel that always had an extra eye for the nice little details.

The place and property is beautiful and throughout delicate, surrounded by impressive views of the Atlas Mountains. We also found the location ideal as it provided pure relaxation and peace, but with the intense pulse of the Medina still close. The cuisine was always great, and we were really happy we did half board. We even had days were we ate all the meals at the Al Mendili, as we enjoyed the food, service and surroundings so much!

The spa with its staff and treatments were excellent, and the prices were also good. As a result, my partner ended up with two ‘days’ of treatment, myself three. Furthermore, the sweet owners notice my birthday during the stay (though we did not mention it) and brought me a really nice surprise of appreciation.

All in all we had a perfect stay, and are truly grateful for the staff and place that made our holiday so great.
If you are looking for a place with extra good service and relaxation in wonderful surroundings, Al Mendili is the place!

If you are tired to stay in the polluted Medina go there.The riad is beautifully decorated by Vanessa and you will feel like staying in a Friends house. Vanessa and Emmanuel, the owners are very friendly and will do everything to please you. All the rooms are very nice, with a beautiful view on the countryside and the swimming pool. Breakfast is amazing, changing every day with a large choice of breads, pancake, cheese or fruit salad.

I have just returned from a 4 night stay in the Riad Al Mendili in Marrakesh. Our first time to Morroco I was uncertain whether to stay in the busy city or on the more relaxed outskirts. I am glad we chose the Riad just 20 minutes outside the hustle and bustle of an interesting historical city. This way we had the best of both worlds.
After a bumpy taxi ride down busy roads and then dirt tracks (all part of the charm) we arrived at the oasis that is this Riad. We where warmly greeted by Vanessa & Emmanual the owners who where quick to tell us that we must treat the Mendili as our home. Warm towels and fresh mint tea where gratefully accepted as soon as we entered the beautifully decorated Riad.

Room:

We stayed "El Ouaziria" ground floor suite which was most excellent. I chose this one as it is in all of the magazines advertising the Mendili and it has easy access to the pool area without walking through the Riad. A living room with open fire (*which they will light on request) Large comfortable bed, nice bathroom (*please note no shower which was not my preference). All suite was impeccably clean and very well decorated in a Morrocan theme. Very Happy. Complimentary bottled water refilled each day.

Service:

This is where the accomodation excelled. Personal, professional, friendly and attentive with out being intrusive. A special mention goes to Samir who was proud of the Riad, and nothing was too much trouble. Happy to serve. The owners where around and about if needed but just let the rest of the staff get on with it so you feel relaxed all the time.

Food:

We had heard nightmares about food in Morocco so decided to play it safe and get half board. It was a good choice as we never had a bad meal. Traditional, tangine cooked tastiness. You do need to be aware that it is a set menu and unless you specifically ask for something or add dietry requirements you will be served dish of the day. Ask for the tangine chicken cooked in an oven in the garden. Cest magnifique!.Most drink prices I found where quite expensive but mint tea is cheap and delicious. JD & Coke £8 Beer £4.50 (*Casablanca beer is the best and when on holiday who cares?)

Facilites:

The gardens are beautiful with the most excellent views of the Atlas mountains from all rooms and the pool you definitely get the feeling you are somewhere else!. The pool is cold (maybe as it was March) but there is a hot jacuzzi too. Pool table, Spa, Roof terrace with seating area, Bar and lounge with fantastic open fire where we had our meals.

The Riad will also arrange any activities you want and we found this most helpful. We arranged a taxi and guide for a trip into the city which was excellent. Ask for taxi driver Mustafa and his guide Abdul (English speaking) not expensive at all, value for money as they take you the best places to shop along with a tour of the best parts of Marrakesh taylor made to your taste.

Overall we had a great break, If you are looking for a relaxing luxury retreat within easy access to a hisorical city of great interest look no further. Recommended.

Room Tip: All facing the pool and Atlas mountains. 1st floor have balconies and ground floor have easy access...

my husband and I have just returned from a 4 night stay at the Riad Al Mendili. We had a fantastic time. On our arrival we were welcomed by the hotel owners Vanessa and Emmanuel who were extremely friendly. We were presented with a hot towel and a delicious glass of mint tea. Perfect!!

The Riad is beautiful and is very well decorated there are plenty of small seating areas around the kasbah where you can get away from it all. We were very fortunate to have it to ourselves for the duration of our stay, But these areas would have been ideal if the Kasbah was fully booked. There is a wonderful roof top terrace which has fantastic views of the Atlas mountains and surrounding area. There is a pool table and poker table for entertainment. The weather was 25 degrees everyday during our stay which was a pleasant surprise given its still winter time, so bring your swimming costume!!

Staff were extremely professional and attentive. Cant fault them in anyway they did a fantastic job looking after us. You may want to brush up on your French as most of them dont speak English.

* Room

we booked one of the suites El Ouaziria . The room was amazing tastefully decorated with moorish furniture. It had ample space and the bed was huge and comfortable. However the bathroom had no separate shower facility it was a bath with mixer tap with shower head. For some this maybe a bonus however for us who prefer the shower it was a slight disappointment but not the end of the world. There is tv with satellite with a only a few channels

* Food
We decided to do half board (breakfast and dinner) and so glad we did. For one the kasbah is deserted and is miles away from any local restaurants and secondly the food was fresh and tasty.

The breakfast was delightful we were served what seemed to be typical moroccan breakfast. Staff would ask where you would like to eat we decided to eat by the pool as this was the perfect setting with views of the mountains.

We were advised by Vanessa that each evening the food would be a 'surprise' therefore we had no idea what we were getting. If you have a fussy palette like mine I would suggest you advice them what you prefer as they dont ask you what you want to eat. Most of the meals we had were meat based again I would advice if you are vegetarian etc.

* Marrakesh

We arranged a day trip to Marrakesh this was very kindly organised by Emmanuel. He did a splendid job. He arranged for taxi pick up then our taxi driver had arranged for private tour guide. Our taxi driver Mustafa was a character, his english was great and he was incredibly knowledgeble about the local area. He arranged to meet our guide in the city. We met our guide introduced by mustafa his name was Abdul. He was a great, we spent 4 hours with him where he took us to the palace, ancient cemetry,the souks and the medina. We were thoroughly impressed. Highly recommend both gentlemen.

Marrakesh is very busy and incredibly welcoming. I have heard some horror stories of this place and was slightly weary but walking round the city felt quite safe so I was pleasantly surprised! You also need to be aware that there is no definitive road or pedestrian areas so please be mindful when you are walking round.

* Spending money at the Airport

I thought I would mention the money and spending situation at the airport for future travellers. As Morocco has a closed currency you are only allowed to bring in 1000 dirhams (around £100) per person if you bring more then you may be questioned by authorities. The rest of your money has to be purchased in Morocco. To be honest you get a much better price over there than you do back home so only get the minimum. On your return home, when you arrive at Marrakesh airport you can only spend your money at the shops in the check in area. Dirhams are not accepted in duty free they only allow credit cards or Euros. I would bring euros just incase you want ot buy anything from the airport.

I would highly recommend this for honeymooners, couples or those seeking away from it all kind of holiday. This is incredibly romantic place and has incredible settings. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did. Thank you to all the staff at the Riad we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Al Mendili is a great place to stay, you feel truly spoilt during your stay. when you arrive you are welcomed by Vanessa and Manu the owners with a lovely mint tea and a hot towel. Their enthusiasm and attention to detail makes this hotel stand out from the crowd. You can't beat the personal touch. The staff are a great bunch of people and all very helpful. The room was beautifully decorated and faced the garden with the pool and a great view of the Atlas mountains. The public areas are a cross between Moroccan and African decor and feel very cosy. The food, in our case breakfast and dinner (most evenings) were all delicious and served in a different corner of the hotel, e.g. beside the pool, roof terrace or the 'Boudoir', where ever you fancy. Don't forget to have a go at the hamam and enjoy a few treatments, very good value for money! Manu can arrange taxis (we used the same guy throughout our stay and he was a godsend), book trips, recommend and reserve a table at restaurants etc.. The only thing you have to do is turn up and enjoy. We know where we want to stay when we return! A Bientot.

Room Tip: All rooms face the same way towards the garden and the pool. The suites have a sitting area, but the...

The French hosts are very welcoming (though it helps to have a bit of French!), and their (only) fluent English speaking member of staff, Hassan, was exceptionally helpful and friendly. The room was large and comfortable with a fantastic view of the Atlas Mountains beyond the well-tended gardens and pool. The kasbah-style architecture and decor seems authentic even though I believe it's a very new building. We didn't try the spa but the food was really excellent, served anywhere you like including the roof terrace (with resident cacti and great 360 degree views). My only gripes: the journey to it is along a series of extremely bumpy roads so it's slowing going, the pool looks deceptively large on photos but half of it is only 2 feet deep, and the bathroom in our room was a let down for the price: a very small bath and a pretty poor shower. Ah well, we were generally really impressed and would return here (to a different room perhaps).
