We stayed in this hotel for Easter and just wanted some winter sunshine. Having already visited Marrakesh the year before for a city break we had no intention of leaving the hotel, as we had seen everything we wanted to already. We booked Easyjet flights, a private transfer on the internet and then direct with Thomson for the hotel only, this saved us about £500. We took my 18 year oold daughter and she loved it too. The animation team are amazing and work so hard to get everyone to join in. If you are not interested, no worries. Special mention to Kamel and the guys who take the aqua gym (water aerobics) they were absolutely hilarious and we made sure we did that everyday. The water polo was more a spectator sport for us, as it got very competitive but great fun to watch. We didnt really see the evening entertainment as the weather was exceptionally hot for April and we were happy to sit outside after dinner playing cards etc. The entertainment all took place inside and it was boiling in there, so we didn't bother. However one night we did see the kids singing and dancing in the lobby with the team and parents joining in too, looked great fun and if we had younger kids with us would no doubt be joining in! Sunbeds were not a problem as we are early risers so we were down there most days by 8am and always got 3 beds together. The pool was cold as it was early in the season but after a couple of days the heat warmed it up and it was refreshing to get in. Alcoholic drinks were really good especially the coco loco cocktails! Not the usual paint stripper we have experienced in Egypt and Tunisia. The food was wonderful and no tummy upsets at all. Our room was great overlooking the tennis courts - perfect for us as I emailed in advance to request a top floor and quiet, which was exactly what we got. The room was plenty big enough for 3 adults and my daughters sofa bed was actually very comfortable. Balcony was large and unoverlooked. Some of the rooms that overlooked the paths were quite shady and dark and you could see guests with lights turned on even in the daytime, but probably not an issue in the hotter months because they probably stay cool. My only grievance was our last day, with an evening flight we did not need to leave until 7pm but the hotel was full for the Easter weekend and they could not offer us a courtesy room or late check out even tho I asked well in advance and did not expect this to be free. Previous guests we talked to were given time slots to go to a courtesy room so we were really disappointed there were no facilities for us. We were met with 'not our problem' at the desk and you will have to use the shower in the indoor pool, along with everyone else! it was awful, only two showers around the indoor pool which were dirty and no privacy. Three small swimming pool sized changing cubicles in the lobby by the entrance to the gym, no hairdryer or a socket to plug one in, no dry towels. It was chaos, people queuing to shower and change, suitcases and hand luggage everywhere in this lobby section, with guests trying to change, pack their last few bits etc. Thank goodness it wasn't a massive Thomsons departure day, but just independent travelers or it could have been worse. For a Riu hotel of this rating and considering the wonderful service we had had during our stay, I was very disappointed and angry too. In fact I even considered changing and plugging a hairdryer in at the main reception area in protest! However, dont let this put you off, go and have a fab time - we did!
