“August two week visit 2012!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

I visited the tikida palmeraie in August 2012 for two weeks with my boyfriend. We have stopped at previous riu hotels in the past and have not been disappointed. The hotel was lovely and very clean. However, lots of wasps around the outside bar area. The cocktails were standard (all taste the same) not as good as the ones in Mexico. However Mexico was more expensive, so you get what you pay for.
Staff are amazing, all very friendly and polite. However, did feel sorry for them and all the hours they put in. They had to do most of the enteraintment at night, they did try their best but wasn't the best.
Our visit was two long at two weeks- not much to do other than visit the markets... We did buy lots of bargains... bags, headphones (beats) and Ice watches =)
Lovely weather- very very hot. Pool amazing! lots of sun beds but had to get up early for the double beds! some people put towels out at 3am!
Towels could not be swapped until 9.30am- bit of a pain putting them down then having to take them off to swap them as then closed at 2pm.
I would go back but maybe for a short stay. not far on a plane and worth a visit!! Good for the money =) x

Riu Tikida Palmeraie is a large modern hotel twenty minutes outside the old walled city of Marrakech. Although just off a main road, the hotel has beautiful gardens and is bright, clean and modern. I visited with my husband and four older children for a three night break after Christmas. The rooms were large and well appointed, with separate bathrooms and toilets, a rarity these days. The mattresses were firm and comfortable and the decor plain and modern. I chose the hotel because there were six of us and I needed a reasonably priced base that would suit teenagers and allow them freedom without danger at night, i.e the possibility of remaining in the bar when their jaded parents retire to bed. All this worked out well but of course involved the usual compromises made when travelling with a large group. If you are travelling as a couple, there are many far more interesting and romantic hotels in Marrakech than this, to suit all budgets and I would say avoid the big chains.
The hotel has a very large outdoor pool, too cold for this time of year, and a good heated indoor pool although the changing rooms are unheated and unpleasantly cold. The food was rather dull, absolutely not five star and lacking in Moroccan specialities. The dining room staff are smart, charming and helpful. The hotel runs a shuttle bus into the centre, the last one leaves at 8pm so no good for nights out, and be aware that you have to book tickets for the shuttle which is often full. We spent a lot of money on taxis.
We booked with Thomson for the first time, and did not find them impressive. The camel trek we booked was not well handled and although the people at the Moroccan end were charming, the trek is not through what remains of the Palmeraie, but through a run down patch of waste ground complete with rubbish and pylons in the background to spoil any photography.Take a taxi into the palmeraie and you will find many locals offering very similar camel treks for less cash and in more attractive surroundings. On our return journey, flying with Thomson, we were seated in six different rows, a first for our well travelled family, and at the Gatwick end our baggage reclaim was delayed for 2.5 hours without explanation.
Overall, stay here if you are very insecure about staying in the city, but otherwise, be more adventurous and you will find many more interesting and beautiful hotels and can eat very cheaply at the famous night barbecue or try out more exotic restaurants. Tikida is certainly not 5 star. The public areas smell very smoky at all times, most unpleasant, and the evening entertainment is poor. The food is dull, and bathroom toiletries come in sachets. I cannot imagine staying here for longer than a few days. We had an excellent holiday but most of it was spent exploring the many fascinating sights of Marrakech, an exciting destination.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the Atlas away from the road, otherwise traffic noise is audible.

Stayed here in November 12. It was the first time in a Riu hotel and I found it to be a very nice hotel with excellent staff and food.

The only thing that was a little annoying was the number of flies in the outside bar areas. I know this cannot be helped but it is off putting when the pool bars are crawling with flies. Tip - use the bar facilities in the Italian restaurant.

Overall we had a lovely holiday and definitely would visit another RIU hotel.

Four of us stayed there from 21st of Dec to 31st.
Hotel is spotless But above everything else it is the staff that make this hotel the star it is, We couldnt find fault with anything or anyone. The animation team more than make up with there enthusiasm for any talent lacking The catering staff will make just for you what ever you want that might not be on the menu. House keeping are a delight ,The grounds are a amazing .Waiters and Bar staff are funny and feel like family after a few days ,Management are always on hand with a greeting and a chat. We cant recomend this hotel highly enough,
I have been in the catering industry all my life and would give anthything to have staff like this
Would i recomend this hotel again ? In a heart beat.

Absolutely great holiday; 5 star food, service, cleanliness,, facilities and to top it off lots of English tv to watch when we were in-between stuff. Rooms pleasant and spacious. You cannot go wrong booking this hotel. The only thing I could possibly fault is that the indoor pool was freezing. Hotel shuttle great, however book early if hotel is busy. Finally the Tui (etc) trips are overpriced as usual. Go to the square and hire yourself a taxi for the day. We paid 700 dh for a whole day driving us to the Atlas Mountains and other real Moroccan areas. We could have shopped around and got a taxi for 400 dh per day, but I liked the driver as he was not in my face like everyone else.

We returned on Christmas Eve after a week of being treated like royalty very very happy.

Room Tip: Ask for room close to pool. If not lots of walking,,,!

Our daughter chose this hotel to celebrate her 18th birthday, she was not disappointed.
Cocktails on arrival at the hotel, and a quick check in, champagne in the room on arrival and then a special birthday table on the night of her birthday - more champagne, a delicious birthday cake and all the waiters singing to her!!
The hotel is really beautiful, very spacious and lovely log fires on a chilly evening. The grounds were kept really immaculate and a pleasure to walk through on the way to the main part of the hotel every day. Watch out for the frogs as they have a liking to sit on the paths in the evening, and the cats like to keep your seats warm during the day when you move.
The food in plentiful with a varied selection at every meal something for everyone to chose and the cakes are to die for!! The waiters are very helpful and nothing is too much trouble for them. The bar staff are all very friendly and after a few days they seem to know what everone is drinking before they place an order.
Entertainment staff are very enthusiastic with they pool routine in the afternoon and evening in the bar but the shows are a bit of a let down very amateurish but none the less they do put their heart and soul into doing them.
Down side not enough toileteries in the rooms would advise to take your own. Depending on which maid you get as to whether you get everything in the room cleaned.
The trips 3 for £49 were well worth the money. We had already taken a visit by ourselves to the Souk and got a little lost down the alleys so it was nice to go around the second time with a guide even though we would never find where he had taken us again!! The gardens were worth a trip and the carriage ride around the city is well worth the experience.
The free shuttle bus from the hotel to the city is brilliant we used it nearly every day but you do need to book the day before to get a seat. The driver will also drop you off en route if you need to go to another point on the journey.
The souks are not really a place to take a 10 year old even though we had taken advise from the web and travel agents before booking. Our 10 years old daughter was a little terrified of all the monkeys, snakes in your face and the henna ladies trying to stick the needles in you she much preferred the Artisan Centre where we were not hassled.
Just a quick note about Menara Airport put all your valuables in you hand luggage, no matter whether it is costume jewelery or shavers, because we had ours taken. Also when you go through security make sure you face your bag at all times as they are very quick at emptying your had luggage and you do not know what has been taken out because you are distracted.

We went here for my birthday in November, loved the hotel it was fantastic, kept so clean, yes it is a smoking hotel but you can still find less smokey places to sit! The entertainment team were very friendly and very welcoming! The rooms were huge and kept so clean and very comfortable. The maids do a very good job in keeping the rooms perfect with such lovely touches when you come back to see how they have decorated the bed,pjs or towels! The grounds are beautiful, kept so well and a sense of "being looked after" with the grounds security patrolling. The swimming pool looked gorgeous all tho way to cold to get in!! Ample sun beds and comfy cushions.
All the staff were so very very friendly and helpful, a big thank you to our waiter Ousamma and leila , who were just amazing! I had a lovely birthday table, and was made to feel so special, the waiters and waitresses are such a credit to the hotel!
Trips.....we went on a camel ride.....hilarious and worth it! An hr and 15 mins in total riding our camels!! The trip to the souks/medina was such an eye opener!!! Thank God we had a guide cos we would have definitely got lost! Found it very scary the first time we went in..... Was hennaed and monkeyed and a snake in my face all within the first 10 minutes of "free time" in the medina!!!!!! Although the second time we were much more prepared and knew what to expect and was ready to haggle!!we also did horse and carriage by night which we also enjoyed ,we would have loved to do the Atlas Mountains but ran out of time! Although some friends went and they said it was perfect and worth every penny!
In all we had a lovely weeks holiday, weather was hot, managed to do some sunbathing but obviously got cooler in the evening, but the roaring open fireplaces in the lobby areas soon warmed us up!
I suffer with ulcerative colitis so was rather worried that I would have a flare up, but stuck to bottled water and "normal" food and found I was better there than I am at home!!
Thank you so much to all the lovely friendly staff you really made us feel so special on our first holiday in years!
Would definitely recommend for a weeks holiday with your partner, not so much for a family with children, but perfect for alone time with your loved one!!!!
