“Fab holiday”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 15, 2012 via mobile

Stayed for 2 weeks and had an excellent time. Food was great and yes a bit repetitive but we were there for 2 weeks although this was broken up by unlimited visits to the Moroccan and Italian! Pool was fab plenty of room for everyone and of a nice temperature. Pool bar was great and plenty of selection so no complaints there! Room was cleaned daily and fresh bottles of water provided. Staff and animation team were excellent and friendly at all times. The hotel is a little away from the centre but if your looking for a relaxing holiday then stay here!

Amazing place - lovely hotel - food varied - waiters attentive - hotel spotless - pool freezing- rooms large and spacious.
Shame all the bars are smoking bars - comes as a shock after not allowing smoking in pubs etc.
Shuttle bus good - need to book in advance.
A la carte not wAiter service - but Moroccan was delicious, again need to book in advance.
Nice to not have to dress up in the evenings, although most did. It was handy if you had got in late, and just wanted to go into the restaurant.
Would def go again, loved every minute.

Room Tip: Upper floor - can be noisy downstairs. Also ground floor less private. The blocks facing the pools...

We stayed in RIU Tikida Palmerie in November 2011. We just wanted a chill out holidays in new to us destination for a good price. We were quite lucky as it was quiet anough for us as I know some people complained about place being overcrowded and queues for food etc. Staff was lovely, very firendly and very helpful, hotel management was quite visible. Rooms very clean and well looked after, very spacious, our bathroom looked a bit dated but still very clean. In terms of food we were spoiled for choice even when I am a vegetarian.
We booked our holidays with Thompson and decided to buy 3 excursions. We loved 1 day trip to Marrakesh, tour guide was very friendly. We also booked half day camel ride which was a bit disappointing as area and scenery were not great at all but I guess it is just one of them things you try in your life and would rather not do it again. We have also booked half day ride on quad bikes and that was absolutely fantastic, real fun but 2 girls ended up getting too scared and had to get on a quad with their other halfs;)
hotel has a coplimentary bus service to town which is quite convenient so we used this opportunity to see Marrakesh in sunset and by night. Medina and souks are great shopping experience but you need to get ready for bartering if you want to pay good price. People will hassle you but they know when you are not interrested and will stop so do not get scared and let yourself get lost in these alleys ;)

Room Tip: book outside school holidays

Stayed here for 11 nights 29 Oct- 09 Nov 2012. Arrived at midnight and hot food and welcome drink very welcolme! Immediately noticed smokey lobby. Fine if you are a smoker, but we non-smokers found it revolting!
Fab room 1st floor overlooking the pool, but previous occupiers must have smoked as the room atmosphere was unpleasant for several days. Room & building kept very clean, 2 bottles of water everyday in room. Air con & Heating worked well.
Although information stating towels would be removed by pool staff, sunbeds were reserved with towels and no sanctions taken or enforced.
Cats no problem (Im not a cat lover), FLIES!! constant irritation, not one second of peace all the time on a sunbed.
Food, very good, lots to choose from and almost available from 7.30 -22.30
Outdoor pool (unheated) 11 deg. Indoor pool (heated) 24 deg - guess where we swam! Both very clean.
All Staff very cheerful friendly & efficient, most can speak some English (& 2 or 3 other languages too).
Animation team. Very enthusiastic, but not to our taste! They did respond when we asked them to turn the poolside thumping music down to a bearable level (from the far side of the pool) It was more like Ibiza than a relaxing day (every rain free day 10.00-17.00)
Noise from 2030 -2300, in our room from poolside repetitive 2 man entertainment. Not good when you have 7.00 trip the next day.
Thomson trips, not described fully. Trip to cascades/caves, 6 hours coach travel - no toilet onboad- 3 hrs to cascades 550 steps to bottom, and 1hr approx to go down & back. The cave, approx 1 hr away (with a lunch stop half way) - isn't! its a bridge over a natural tunnel, 45 mins to view, & 2+ hours back on the coach all for approx £60 each.
Other trips tend to always include a stop where you can feel obliged to part with money.
As 4 out of 11 days had rain, (2 of which were a deluge!) and temp dropping to 18 deg not too sad to be home.

Room Tip: 1st floor rooms overlooking the pool have best views but highest evening noise level.

Stayed here for 2 weeks in May 2012 with my husband and 14 yr old daughter. The hotel is lovely but not one of the best Riu hotels we have stayed at. The staff are great especially the entertainment team. Some areas of the hotel were not as clean as you would expect from a 4 star, but the staff do try their best given they work long hours and still manage a smile. The food is okay but i would recommend booking into the Moroccan and Italian.
We did feel a bit isolated being here for 2 weeks as it is a bit out of the way and we really did not feel comfortable leaving the complex unless it was on one of the escorted tours.

The souks are SCARY and not for he feint hearted! The main square really is quite an experience and not one I would want to repeat .... Snakes, monkeys, young children performing for money and begging.

Would recommend the Atlas Mountains and the cultural tour, but be prepared to tip for everything
even taking pictures.

Glad we visited, but 2 weeks was toooo looooong and 5 days would have been enough and I can't see us going back.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from The main reception as it an get quite noisy at night and tip the waiters an...

Just returned from a 11 night stay at the Riu Tikida Palmeraie, this was our second stay having stayed there two years ago. Having flown from Manchester on an evening flight we arrived at the hotel at approx. 10.30pm. We were shown directly to the restaurant which was kept open for us, our luggage was brought into reception by the porters. As a wheelchair user I was pleasantly surprised to find that I had had my room upgraded to a suite free of charge that had a wet room facility. The suite itself was absolutely huge, with two terrace arrears. Flat screen TV, English channels 3, 23, 24. There is a security safe in the room big enough to take a laptop, there is no charge for this. If I had to say in what area does this hotel shine most it just has to be in it’s restaurants and catering arrears. I have stopped in many hotels over the years, as far as restaurants go this has got to be one of the best, the staff work like a finely oiled machine. The quality of the food is good, and there is plenty of variety, Sunday morning it’s Champagne and smoked salmon for breakfast. There are two themed restaurants that can be used throughout your holidays, one Italian and the other Moroccan, both are really good. The hotel boasts to have the largest swimming pool in Marrakech, and it is big. There are two indoor bars that give good service, along with quality drinks, both close at 12 o’clock midnight, there are two other bars one of which is at poolside. The grounds of the hotel are really well maintained, and are a pleasure to stroll around after you have had you meal. There is entertainment almost every night that is staged by the animation team, the team work hard but could really do with some professional help. There is an internet room within the reception arrear that has just two computers , but they are free to use. There is also a free bus that takes you take you into the centre of Marrakech where you will find the souks and square, to visit this area is a must, this bus can be booked at the reception desk. But don’t forget your camera, as the place is full of street entertainers. Be warned, if you take a photo of someone dancing or entertaining in any way they will expect payment. If you don’t give them something they won’t be happy people. Look out for the dancing girls? I found myself surrounded one day by four young Moroccan dancing girls in their traditional costume, I was sat in my wheelchair feeling quite flattered by all of the attention that I was getting from these beautiful young girls. After they had finished their dance I gave them 50 dirham (£3.50), and smiled at the wife “Hey did you see that, I pulled, not bad for 65 yeh” she laughed and said “Did you see the thick bushy eyebrows and size 10 shoes Al” The veils they had worn could only hide so much, my beautiful dancing girls had all been men. The main square must be done twice, once by day, then again after dark when it becomes a different place altogether. If you don’t visit the Marrakech square after dark you will miss an experience of a lifetime.
To summarise, the Riu Tikida Palmeraie is a really good hotel, Marrakech is a beautiful place that is full of culture, you will see thing that will amaze you. There is the new Marrakech with the plush hotel, then there is the old Marrakech where the street traders sell their ware and go about their ever day living with their little donkey and cart. I like the old Marrakech best, it has character, mind you on this last trip I did celebrate my 65th birthday and drank champagne whilst by the poolside, that was OK . Would I go back to this hotel, most definitely.

Room Tip: The blocks numbered 1001, and 2002 are really good being close to the pool and reception

We returned from 11 nights here a couple of weeks ago.
On arrival we were rushed straight to the dining room so did not miss out on dinner and then checked in and went to our room. The rooms are spacious, with 2 wardrobes, separate toilet and bathroom, nice seating area and balcony. We were in block 2000. If you want to stay in touch with home, the TV does get BBC1.
Breakfast and dinner are eaten in the main restaurant. The staff were very friendly and efficient. There was always a good selection of different food. Lunch is in the restaurant beside the pool and again a decent selection everyday. I want to particularly praise the desserts which were delicious and lived up to their looks, not always the case. The creme caramel was fabulous as were the chocolate brownies.
At night the Italian restaurant takes over the lunch time restaurant and is rather disappointing as it is canteen like and there is no atmosphere, on the other hand the Moroccan is lovely. Both are unusually buffet style and although this makes for less of a "going out to dinner" experience, at least you can try little bits of everything. See the head waiter in the main restaurant to book. The Moroccan is popular but we went twice.
The pool is very big and very pleasant fro swimming. I have been in pools which are a LOT colder. As usual there were plenty of selfish people who had towels on sunbeds from the middle of the night???..and then didn't bother turning up until lunchtime or later. We were usually out around 7.30 to 8.00 and already most of the beds on the best side from a sun angle point of view, were "booked". Often they lay empty half the day. One day we noticed beds which no-one ever came to. Notices said that towels etc would be lifted after 90 minutes, but sadly this never happened.
One disadvantage of having only one outdoor pool is that all the entertainment takes place there, so there is music for most of the day. I would prefer less noise, but that is a minor complaint. The entertainment team put on a wide range of activities and if you did not want to take part we found that they were happy with this and did not hassle you at all.
Wifi is available in the reception area...very popular!
We went with Thomson's and did 3 half day trips to Marrakech which were very informative. After that we did our own trip on the hotel bus. You need to book both parts of the trip and I suggest you book at least 48 hours before as it is popular. We spent most of this trip in the Ensemble Artisanal on Avenue Mohammed V, just a short walk from the bottom of Jemaa al Fna Square where the bus lets you off. It is an excellent collection of small shops selling local crafts and a great place to pick up gifts and souvenirs. Prices are fixed and there is no haggling and no hassle. There is a small selection of local crafts in the hotel shop but prices are slightly higher there. You can walk to a big supermarket down the road from the hotel, 10 to 15 mins, if you want any crisps, biscuits etc to take home, or just for the stroll.
As our pick-up time for the airport was not until 8pm, we opted to keep our room until 6pm, which cost about £38. There are a limited number of rooms available until 6pm and some available until 4pm. If you want to keep your room, get to reception early on the morning .
before you leave.
The only other thing to mention was that we were woken up on 2 nights by very loud music coming from the next property over the wall from our block. Don't know what it was, but the music was banging at 5am.
Lastly the hotel has cats! They are all well looked after and in very good shape which was great. If like me you are a cat person, you can share your sunbed with a moggy!! but otherwise just ignore them and they will not bother you. It was great to see animals like this so well cared for.
