Stayed here for 2 weeks in May 2012 with my husband and 14 yr old daughter. The hotel is lovely but not one of the best Riu hotels we have stayed at. The staff are great especially the entertainment team. Some areas of the hotel were not as clean as you would expect from a 4 star, but the staff do try their best given they work long hours and still manage a smile. The food is okay but i would recommend booking into the Moroccan and Italian.
We did feel a bit isolated being here for 2 weeks as it is a bit out of the way and we really did not feel comfortable leaving the complex unless it was on one of the escorted tours.

The souks are SCARY and not for he feint hearted! The main square really is quite an experience and not one I would want to repeat .... Snakes, monkeys, young children performing for money and begging.

Would recommend the Atlas Mountains and the cultural tour, but be prepared to tip for everything
even taking pictures.

Glad we visited, but 2 weeks was toooo looooong and 5 days would have been enough and I can't see us going back.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from The main reception as it an get quite noisy at night and tip the waiters an...

Just returned from a 11 night stay at the Riu Tikida Palmeraie, this was our second stay having stayed there two years ago. Having flown from Manchester on an evening flight we arrived at the hotel at approx. 10.30pm. We were shown directly to the restaurant which was kept open for us, our luggage was brought into reception by the porters. As a wheelchair user I was pleasantly surprised to find that I had had my room upgraded to a suite free of charge that had a wet room facility. The suite itself was absolutely huge, with two terrace arrears. Flat screen TV, English channels 3, 23, 24. There is a security safe in the room big enough to take a laptop, there is no charge for this. If I had to say in what area does this hotel shine most it just has to be in it’s restaurants and catering arrears. I have stopped in many hotels over the years, as far as restaurants go this has got to be one of the best, the staff work like a finely oiled machine. The quality of the food is good, and there is plenty of variety, Sunday morning it’s Champagne and smoked salmon for breakfast. There are two themed restaurants that can be used throughout your holidays, one Italian and the other Moroccan, both are really good. The hotel boasts to have the largest swimming pool in Marrakech, and it is big. There are two indoor bars that give good service, along with quality drinks, both close at 12 o’clock midnight, there are two other bars one of which is at poolside. The grounds of the hotel are really well maintained, and are a pleasure to stroll around after you have had you meal. There is entertainment almost every night that is staged by the animation team, the team work hard but could really do with some professional help. There is an internet room within the reception arrear that has just two computers , but they are free to use. There is also a free bus that takes you take you into the centre of Marrakech where you will find the souks and square, to visit this area is a must, this bus can be booked at the reception desk. But don’t forget your camera, as the place is full of street entertainers. Be warned, if you take a photo of someone dancing or entertaining in any way they will expect payment. If you don’t give them something they won’t be happy people. Look out for the dancing girls? I found myself surrounded one day by four young Moroccan dancing girls in their traditional costume, I was sat in my wheelchair feeling quite flattered by all of the attention that I was getting from these beautiful young girls. After they had finished their dance I gave them 50 dirham (£3.50), and smiled at the wife “Hey did you see that, I pulled, not bad for 65 yeh” she laughed and said “Did you see the thick bushy eyebrows and size 10 shoes Al” The veils they had worn could only hide so much, my beautiful dancing girls had all been men. The main square must be done twice, once by day, then again after dark when it becomes a different place altogether. If you don’t visit the Marrakech square after dark you will miss an experience of a lifetime.
To summarise, the Riu Tikida Palmeraie is a really good hotel, Marrakech is a beautiful place that is full of culture, you will see thing that will amaze you. There is the new Marrakech with the plush hotel, then there is the old Marrakech where the street traders sell their ware and go about their ever day living with their little donkey and cart. I like the old Marrakech best, it has character, mind you on this last trip I did celebrate my 65th birthday and drank champagne whilst by the poolside, that was OK . Would I go back to this hotel, most definitely.

Room Tip: The blocks numbered 1001, and 2002 are really good being close to the pool and reception

We returned from 11 nights here a couple of weeks ago.
On arrival we were rushed straight to the dining room so did not miss out on dinner and then checked in and went to our room. The rooms are spacious, with 2 wardrobes, separate toilet and bathroom, nice seating area and balcony. We were in block 2000. If you want to stay in touch with home, the TV does get BBC1.
Breakfast and dinner are eaten in the main restaurant. The staff were very friendly and efficient. There was always a good selection of different food. Lunch is in the restaurant beside the pool and again a decent selection everyday. I want to particularly praise the desserts which were delicious and lived up to their looks, not always the case. The creme caramel was fabulous as were the chocolate brownies.
At night the Italian restaurant takes over the lunch time restaurant and is rather disappointing as it is canteen like and there is no atmosphere, on the other hand the Moroccan is lovely. Both are unusually buffet style and although this makes for less of a "going out to dinner" experience, at least you can try little bits of everything. See the head waiter in the main restaurant to book. The Moroccan is popular but we went twice.
The pool is very big and very pleasant fro swimming. I have been in pools which are a LOT colder. As usual there were plenty of selfish people who had towels on sunbeds from the middle of the night???..and then didn't bother turning up until lunchtime or later. We were usually out around 7.30 to 8.00 and already most of the beds on the best side from a sun angle point of view, were "booked". Often they lay empty half the day. One day we noticed beds which no-one ever came to. Notices said that towels etc would be lifted after 90 minutes, but sadly this never happened.
One disadvantage of having only one outdoor pool is that all the entertainment takes place there, so there is music for most of the day. I would prefer less noise, but that is a minor complaint. The entertainment team put on a wide range of activities and if you did not want to take part we found that they were happy with this and did not hassle you at all.
Wifi is available in the reception area...very popular!
We went with Thomson's and did 3 half day trips to Marrakech which were very informative. After that we did our own trip on the hotel bus. You need to book both parts of the trip and I suggest you book at least 48 hours before as it is popular. We spent most of this trip in the Ensemble Artisanal on Avenue Mohammed V, just a short walk from the bottom of Jemaa al Fna Square where the bus lets you off. It is an excellent collection of small shops selling local crafts and a great place to pick up gifts and souvenirs. Prices are fixed and there is no haggling and no hassle. There is a small selection of local crafts in the hotel shop but prices are slightly higher there. You can walk to a big supermarket down the road from the hotel, 10 to 15 mins, if you want any crisps, biscuits etc to take home, or just for the stroll.
As our pick-up time for the airport was not until 8pm, we opted to keep our room until 6pm, which cost about £38. There are a limited number of rooms available until 6pm and some available until 4pm. If you want to keep your room, get to reception early on the morning .
before you leave.
The only other thing to mention was that we were woken up on 2 nights by very loud music coming from the next property over the wall from our block. Don't know what it was, but the music was banging at 5am.
Lastly the hotel has cats! They are all well looked after and in very good shape which was great. If like me you are a cat person, you can share your sunbed with a moggy!! but otherwise just ignore them and they will not bother you. It was great to see animals like this so well cared for.

We stayed at this hotel from 29th October for 1 week, which was the perfect amount of time. From the moment we arrived the staff were welcoming, without being intrusive, and the hotel was beautifully kept.
Our room was really lovely-although after a week the beds were a little too hard for my back, but nothing really to complain about.
The food was very good. If anything there was too much! The morrocan restaurant was well worth a visit or two. I wouldn't bother particularly with the Italian although it wasn't an unpleasant experience.
The pool was very cold but it was a welcome relief for the beautiful weather. There was never a problem getting a sun lounger. It was a lovely week and I would highly recommend this hotel.

I can only reinforce the 5* views of the previous few reporters. We too have just returned from a week at the Riu Tikida Palmeraie and had a wonderful time.
Only a few "sniggles".....we e mailed the hotel prior to our holiday with a room request. This didn't happen. Our room was on the ground floor and a tad dark but we certainly didn't have the need to spend much time in there during the day so we didn't pursue it.
Watch the safes....these are very sensitive to mistakes when pressing your 4-digit number. One mistake & you're locked out! It was a bit of a pain to get somebody out to unlock it.
The outdoor bar areas did get very slippery when wet so you do need to be careful.
The cats were a delight and a lovely "family" addition to the hotel. They were always well fed and well looked after. Never once did we see them causing guests a problem. If only the thousands of moggies in the city centre had the same quality of life!
Absolutely no complaints about food or service in the restaurants or bars. It was definitely worth booking into the Moroccan restaurant because the atmosphere was a bit more romantic.
Wi Fi was available in the lobby & bar areas. It could be a little slow at certain times of the day but when you look around to see the number of guests with smartphones, Ipads etc, it's hardly surprising.
The bus service into the city centre was brilliant. We made fiull use of it both day & night. It was easy to get a taxi back late in the evening....always agree a price before you get in the car & make sure the taxi drivers are clear about which Riu they are going to!
Airport coach ransfers were fine and it was quite safe to leave luggage in the luggage room especially because the flight home was very late at night.
We would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anybody who fancies a good all-inclusive hotel, warmth and an amazing cutural experience in the centre of Marrakech.

my friend and I stayed here for a 4 day break, we had 2 spa treatments and relaxed by the pool, the food is all buffet style and while we never had to wait for a table it did seem a little like a school canteen, we ate in the Italian restaurant and were disappointed, we couldn't get a table in the moroccan restaurant so I can't comment on that one but people did say it was very nice. There were always sunbeds available and the pool staff were on hand if you wanted to move a bed.The place itself is clean and the rooms are cleaned everyday to a high standard, the gardens are well kept and in all a beautiful place, there were lots of children but they have an excellent club and they were never a problem. The only complaint is that the themed restaurants should be waiter service and that would be a welcome change. We went into Marrakech for the experience and it is busy busy busy, choose this hotel for peace and quiet and there is a free bus so you can go into the madness and return to relax,

Room Tip: we stayed near the rear and it was very quiet, nearer to the pool is noisy.

We travelled to Marrakech on the 18/10 for a week with our two kids (12 & 9yrs). The Tikida Palmeraie was only a 40 min transfer and was a beautiful hotel, grounds well tended, nice reception area, plenty of seats, shame about the smokers though! It made the bar unusable for us but we always managed to find somewhere away from smokers...
We didn't ever stay awake to see the shows, they came on too late for us.
It was a very quiet hotel and there wasn't really anything for the kids to do day or night. This would have been a problem if we were there for longer, but we coped for a week.
The room was very spacious with two large singles pushed together and two comfy beds for the children. The room was kept clean, always had hot water, good shower and had plenty of hangers and hanging space.
The pool area was beautiful with plenty of sunbeds and shade and two pool bars. The main problem was that the water icy cold!! My kids went in for a swim and came out 20 mins later with blue lips, it then took ages to warm them up again, needless to say they weren't that eager to get back in there after that!!!
The weather was gorgeous, we arrived in the middle of a storm but after a day of cloud it warmed right up to 94C so we were very lucky I think.
The food in the hotel was a bit of a let down, we had visited Morocco last summer and experienced wonderful food and variety at a Riu hotel, we were kind of expecting that standard. Unfortunately the food had very little variety; there was always a tagine on the go of course but that is as far as it went with Moroccan cuisine! Saying that we always found something to eat albeit something plain and simple. The kids were eating a lot of chips!!!
My son suffered a 24 hour bug whilst there and was sick one night and then slept the next day, when speaking to people around the pool, it was quite a common occurrence and was caused by food poisoning. Not sure about that but just beware.
We went on one trip which was a Discover Marrakech day with Thomson; this was excellent and full of information. It included a lovely lunch.
We used the hotel's shuttle bus quite a bit, it went regularly all day back and forth to the main square in Marrakech, as it was a coach there was never a problem getting a seat on it.
All in all we had a restful holiday with a bit of culture thrown in!
