Hello, I've just got back from a holiday at this hotel. I just wanted to point out how great the hotel staff we're and the food; the only downside the weather. Which is out of the hotels jurisdiction. The rooms are lovely and very spacious, especially with having 3 people. No problem with sunbeds or people around the pool; however the pool was rather cold. The catering within the hotel was great, and had something to please everyone. I don't see how there couldn't be something for anyone to eat, no matter what your preferences are. We went on the horse ride into the 'main square' and it was wonderful. The square and trip their was thriving with lights and was brilliant for me, my husband and child of 16. Don't be scared to go into the square; the people are friendly and will only ask you to come into their shop once. No touching or following you around. All in all, we had a wonderful time and would recommend this place to anyone. Don't be put off by the other comments. If you would like to ask any questions about the hotel i'm willing to give you any information about the trip to the square and what to expect and what to do. My email is morton49@hotmail.co.uk. If you've already booked here, i wish you a happy holiday! :)

Room Tip: Try to get one nearer to the pool; 4000's. They're quiet and still relativity close to every...

On arrival the hotel ensured that we were given a meal before checking us in. Check in was quite fast but porters were in short supply so we tried to find our room without assistance. It took a while as the hotel spreads over quite a wide area and it was 10:30 at night, so quite dark. From then on everything was really better than expected. We booked a junior suite and the floor area was quite amazing. This room was as good as any we have stayed in around the world and with a bit of character too.

The grounds are given good attention and the hotel really is an oasis of calm in this busy city.

The food at all meals was very good quality, particularly the salads and the freshly cooked meat. Some dishes may not suit some tastes but the whole restaurant really captured some of the local style. we tied the Moroccan restaurant and enjoyed it but saw no real reason to go again as the choice in the main restaurant was better. Fresh fruit was local and rather lacking in taste compared with UK apart from bananas. The staff throughout the hotel are enthusiastic and helpful beyond expectation. We celebrated a wedding anniversary on one evening of our stay and after asking whether the hotel could provide some sparkling wine we were given a special table with candle and sparkling wine plus a special cake after our meal. No payment was requested for this but of course a donation was appreciated.
The shuttle bus to the city centre was entirely reliable and a good way to get into the real city (such a contrast with the hotel).
Overall this hotel exceeded expectations and was very good value for money. The attitude of staff was particularly noteworthy compared with similar standard hotels in Spain and Greece.
We don't often go back to places we have visited but on this occasion we might make an exception especially for winter sunshine.

Room Tip: Junior Suites are worth the extra but standard rooms are still quite spacious. No lifts.

Is an amazing hotel we would defiantly return. The staff worked really hard all day, would work until 11 PM. The staff would then return to work at 6:30 AM. we went on a excursion to the waterfalls which you hat to get up at 6 AM for when we went to breakfast the staff were already working. Hotel was spotless they were constantly cleaning. Staff were really friendly and the entertainment team were hilarious. Entertainment team put on shows every evening. Also had events going on throughout the day for example darts, French bowls and volleyball. Was raining a couple of days that there was still plenty going on, they would put on movies in the lobby and had activities going on all day to keep every one entertained. Food was really tasty we didn't suffer with funny tummy unlike when we have stayed at other resorts in poorer countries. We had paid for adjoining rooms that consisted of two rooms with a porch area, you could Shut porch door then open up their bedroom doors so you could go in each others. We kept their porch doors shut so we didn't get Mosquitos in our rooms when we went to dinner. we found the porch doors frequently were opened and loads of Mosquitos would fly in. We found it rather annoying as you then couldn't open the bedroom doors without a load of Mosquitos flying in. We suspected it was the maids and this was seen as a welcome back gesture. We also felt that some of their entertainment was more aimed towards the French. The movies that would be played were French and the introduction to the evening shows was French followed by English, but the man would speak so fast the languages seemed to merge together. We felt very safe in their hotel grounds were guarded. The hotel had loads of cats which were all fed and vaccinated they were really friendly and well kept unlike some of the other cats in Marrakesh. We went on two excursions via Thomson. The first was the camel ride which was an hour on a camel, but trust me you wouldn't want any more on a camel. The other was the waterfall excursion, which was really good also. We got stared at more on this excursion and there were a lot of beggars. The waterfall was in a poor village though which wasn't as accustomed to seeing tourists unlike Marrakech. Be careful not to get tricked, we got tricked on one of the days when we got in a taxi. The man insisted that the souks were shut at 4pm and we should go to the government shop. We went there and we wanted some leather poofs. We found 2 for 2000drh. You can't haggle, and we trusted the price as we're been told the government shop is fairly priced. We left a deposit of 200drh so he kept them for the next da as we didn't have the money on us. We walked back to the square to catch the free hotel shuttle bus. On return to the square we found it was open. We went in the souks and found the 2 exact same leather poofs for 700drh for both. Also in the government shop we bought a wooden camel for 40drh which we only had a 200drh note to pay with. The women then didn't want to give us change and after demanding it for 10 mins she finally gave it to us. Don't go to the government shop it's just a con and thank god we didn't give them any more money as we didn't get our deposit back. It was overcast a few days and there were a few flies around the pool but what can you do? The hotel don't control the weather or wildlife. Plenty of sun beds and extra supplies round the edge of he pool. Yes if you want a big bed you have to get up about 8am to reserve them but there are plenty of other sun beds. Maybe in the summer you had to run to get a bed at 6.30am but not in October. The hotel we cannot fault it was lovely, don't listen to the bad reviews. When checking out at 11am our flight wasn't until 10pm so we were given a free hotel room to shower and change in before we leave and the all inclusive basis was still available until midnight, unlike other all inclusive hotels where you finish when you check out and then your a bit stuck. Amazing hotel, beautiful grounds will defiantly be holidaying with riu again.

Just back from a week here and our experience was a bit tainted because the weather was pretty poor, we had rain and monsoon style heavy rain at that for a number of days, the rest of the time it was pretty overcast and dull with only a few sunny spells. This was clearly no fault of the hotel and they were brilliant trying to please everyone, it was a real shame because it limits opportunities and forces the outdoor bars and restaurants to close for the day resulting in 900 guests crammed into the lobby and indoor spaces - I have to praise the staff and management for their helpfulness and upbeat attitudes. I think we caught the offspring of Hurricane Sandy from the US and the west coast of Africa was therefore pretty washed out for the week. Hey Ho.

Food - all the restaurants were great, plenty of choice and different themes each day, there were some people moaning but you get that everywhere in life I suppose. Our favourite was the Moroccan and we went a few times, the food was great and always exciting to try new dishes, we have two boys 16 and 13 and they tried many different tangines and different types of food which was great. It was nice to sit and have a pleasant meal as a family with plenty of choice and taste. The wines are OK, the beer cold and the cocktails premixed, speak nicely, smile and give the odd 20 dirham tip and your quality, strength and service improves - money talks and you become an old friend for the rest of your stay. Lunch was in the poolside bar and sometimes a bit limited and busy, my advice is to arrive early or late and avoid he usual rush hour between 13.00 and 14.00 and you should be OK to avoid the queue.

Poolside - great pool view and landscape with hidden beds and areas all around, the pool was absolutely freezing - a great wake up tonic! The indoor pool was heaving (due to the rain) and probably the most use it has ever had. When the sun did come out the flies around the pool were annoying and everyone had a constant twitch flicking them off.

Trips - we went on the quad bike trip (from the company in the lobby opposite the shop) and it was fantastic, we hired two quads and paid for two passengers. The boys drove and we sat on the back which made it cheaper and safer. We had at least 2 hours off road and travelled around the area following the river and visiting local villages and hamlets - a great way to see the 'real Moroccan life' first hand and a brilliant experience for the lads. Top tips are take old clothes and shoes as you will look like a motor cross rider covered in wet mud (particularly if you are the passenger) costs £50 for the riders and £25 for the passengers.

Medina and Souks - we used the shuttle bus once and caught a cab both ways the second time only because it was so wet and therefore busy. Don't pay any more than 100 Dirhams for a cab each way and the cab drivers are happy to explain anything you want to know. The Souks were nowhere near as bad as was stated or hyped up, yes they all want your custom but be firm and polite and they normally respect that. I am pretty good usually at working out my bearings but I have to admit the twisting turning alleys and cobbled streets threw my bearings out completely. The advice I read is to only ask for directions from those behind a stall or shop or you will end up on a Wild goose chase being led around the souks with an expectation of being paid for your guide. We walked around them all (many times) and really enjoyed the experience looking at the various gifts, leather, lamps, fruit and veg and souvenirs etc it was an experience not to be missed and part of the culture of this diverse city.

Overall, great friendly staff, good food and choice and a vibrant diverse culture, a real shame about the weather but that's life!

Enjoy Marrakesh - you won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: Choose a first floor room, it will be quieter with no one above you.

Just back from a week at this hotel, we only had two sunny days and the rest of the time was overcast or raining and when it rains in Marrakesh, it really rains! It's kept spotlessly clean everywhere and food in the buffet restaurant is very good and varied. Smoking seems to be the norm here so when indoors and having pre dinner drinks its very over powering(for a non smoker). Cocktails are all pre mixed and really taste the same, beer is ok, wine is palatable. Staff are very friendly and you are left alone if you so wish. We feel that the overall size of the site is not quite big enough for the amount of people they cram in. Sunbeds and space for them around the pool are on short supply, however a frustrating amount of flies around the pool are not in short supply. It's the tack of getting your towels out early. We had a ground floor room and upstairs were very noisy at all times, sleep was disrupted. Being British we put up with it!

Made a trip into Marrakesh (organized tours) and really enjoyed the history of this city.Yes you do get pestered by locals attempting to sell but be firm and be aware of distraction!

Of the hotels we've stayed in not sure if it grades as a 4* +, and certainly does not resemble value for money.

In summary, we are glad we have seen another part of the world

Room Tip: Second floor room

This has got to be the best holiday me and my partner have had!! Ignore all the bad reviews, they obviously want perfection!!! If you want perfection then pay the price!!! It was amazing for us from start to finish. When we arrived we was greeted with a lovely cocktail and shown straight through to the restaurant, and seated to a candlelit table and offered a drink. While we was having dinner our luggage had been delivered to our room, which was decorated with swans made out of towels on the bed (so lovely). The hotel staff including waiters where so friendly and helpful and always made us feel welcome and special. The food was great (although some reviews say not) there was a great selection to choose from, my partner is very fussy with food, but there was always something for him to enjoy. The pool is massive and there is plenty of sunbeds to choose from, we only had breakfast about 9.30am and there were still sunbeds to choose from. We had a few trips out into marrakech, which was a great experience and we both fully reccomend. I cannot speak highly enough of this hotel it was absolutely amazing and much more than we initially expected. My partner proposed to me on my birthday while we was away, we had a lovely friendly arrival at the restaurant and was escorted to a table covered in rose petals and a bottle of champagne on the table. After dinner the waiters arrived with my birthday cake (baked by the hotel) and sang happy birthday and then my partner proposed in front of the whole restaurant, the ring was delivered on a silver tray with a I love you balloon and a rose, it was brought over by the head waiter, waiters and hotel manager (obviously I said yes :-)) they made the whole evening special and to top it off, our room had been decorated with banners, ballons and swans on the bed and covered again in rose petals. It was a truly amazing experience and one I will remember forever. i have nothing to say negative about the hotel, we loved every moment and we will certainly be returning.

The hotel was very large, which was ok. The fight for sunbeds was ridiculous, we often had people nick our pillows from the big sunbeds (which we had to get up for 6.30 for). Not very decent.

The hotel staff were great, especially the reception staff. One helped us out a lot with taxis and giving us advice on how much we should expect to pay. The restaurant staff and bar staff were good, but it all felt too impersonal.

My main issue was the entertainment of the hotel. The hotel was quite far from the main town centre so of an evening you were stuck in the hotel unless you got a cab out which was a 25min taxi ride to town. The entertainment was dreadful, it was cringe-worthy and did not get you in the mood to have a good night. The animation team were way too forceful to get you to do some activities (as soon as they learnt your name they visited you everyday while your sunbathing hassling you until you say ok I'll do something). It was annoying if you just wanted to chill and do your own thing. Because I didn't want to do something, one of them started calling me lazy - bit harsh I am on holiday.

The food at the hotel was also a huge let down for me. I was expecting one buffet restaurant and two sit down restaurants (the Italian and Moroccan). No. All were buffets. It didnt feel special at all. You had the same food near enough everynight served in the restaurants. I noticed one night the main restaurant had potato croquettes and the next night they had reheated them and served them again - you could tell as they were extremely burnt the second night they had them and were a bit stale. It was just too much buffet, you had it for breakfast (the chefs need to learn how to cook fried egg -sometimes it went on the plate raw). Then another buffet for lunch and then again for dinner.

For a four star hotel I would of expected the food to have been much nicer and with more variety.

We went with Thomson, their reps were really good and helped us a lot when booking tours/excursions with them. We went on a fair few, the 3 trips of Marrakech, 4x4 atlas mountain tour and quad biking. The latter two were fantastic!!! So good, was great to be able to get out of the hotel.

I would recommend the restaurant Dar Moha, it was an amazing night and the food was fantastic! The musicians were also fabulous an very talented. It's worth the taxi ride into town.

All in all, the hotel was ok. But not what I was expecting after reading these reviews. I was disappointed and won't be going back again - even though the hotel's cats were so cute.
