We wanted to visit the poshest hotel in Marrakech and decided to go for lunch. We went along at 10 to book for lunch, only to be declined entry by a rude, monosyllabic doorman, who told us 'no entry until 11'. Not impressed, I pushed the point that I wanted to go to reception to book, and he reluctantly let in 'just you' not my husband. The receptionist was much more professional and not only let me in but instructed the doorman to let my husband in to. We went for a delightful wander around the hotel grounds, which are beautiful, and then had coffee on the terrace. The coffee was perfect, and so it should have been for £7.50 each, but the service was pretty snooty. Turned out the lunch was going to be 1000 dirhams each (about £85) for a buffet I'm sure would have been beautiful. But we'd had our fill of the place by then, so we paid for the coffee and left, smiling beatifically at the doorman as we left.
