“First Class Place - Great Romantic Getaway”
Reviewed February 10, 2009

Have to say this place is fantastic and couldn't praise it highly enough. We spent 3 nights here and were so grateful that the owners were so helpful throughout our trip. Both John and Elizabeth were on hand to book restaurants, arrange taxi rides, airport transfers, help with breakfast etc. They even walked us to the main square on our first day - more than what you'd get with all these larger hotels. We even had their personal mobile numbers if we needed them for anything. Nothing was too much trouble.

On our arrival we were greeted with homemade biscuits and mint tea by Elizabeth then showed to our room. We booked the Olivia room which was stunning - fireplace, lovely bathroom, massive bed with Egyptian cotton bedding - we really didn't want to get out of bed in the morning. Even the finest detail was thought about - petals around the room and roses either side of the bed. Plus the use of an iPod dock to listen to my other halves dodgy music collection (only joking!!).

As the weather was pretty poor for the first half of our stay, it was great to return to the comfort of a beautifully decorated and obviously cared for Riad. Being 'stuck' in the Riad was a pure pleasure and something we looked forward to - where we had an endless choice of board games and access to the honesty bar to keep us contented!!

When the weather was good we had breakfast on the terrace in the sunshine. Their homemade pancakes and fruit salad combination were a great start to the day. The lady who served us remembered our drink choice each day which was a nice touch.

I would highly recommend a stay here - couldn't fault it. Perfect in every way. I wish John and Elizabeth well - they work hard to ensure that every detail is tended to. 5***

This is the first time that I have left a review on Tripadvisor, but I wanted to make sure that Riad Elizabeth receives a glowing recommendation. We had a fantastic time here; from the welcome shown by John and Elizabeth, the helpful map and directions through the souks to the clean, stylish bedrooms, the hosts showed genuine care and attention to make our stay (despite cold weather and illness) everything we wanted. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the hotel to anyone looking for a great Riad experience in Marrakech.

We just returned from a wonderful holiday in Marrakech, thanks largely to Elizabeth and John at Riad Elizabeth. We were looking for an “authentic” experience, not a “grande luxe” or otherwise soul-less hotel, and we were not disappointed. Elizabeth and John have created a gem . Riad Elizabeth is situated in the heart of the Medina, a stone’s throw from the Medersa Ben Youssef and Musée Marrakech. On the lovely rooftop terrace, we heard the beautiful call to prayer from the nearby mosques. The souks and the Djemma el Fna square are both within easy walking distance, and we kept finding ourselves there, enjoying spirited negotiations for tagines,, brass camels, pretty shawls … you name it. Elizabeth provided us with a “lifeline” of printed contact info to keep with us, including the contact info for three trusted taxi drivers. She escorted us through the souk , gave us a detailed hand-drawn map to help navigate us back to the Riad, and coached us on souk negotiation tactics. In short, she treated us like family. The souk is loads of fun, and the merchants are all lively and full of banter. The ability to speak some basic French is an asset, but English is widely used as well
Rumor has it that John is a G & T aficionado. There is an easy “honor code” bar, and the rooftop is a fantastic place to be at cocktail hour. Dinner in the Raid was incredible – true Moroccan fare, served with great local wine and every imaginable condiment. Breakfasts were equally wonderful., served by gracious staff who never failed to be friendly, prompt and efficient. Going out for dinner, Elizabeth called for the taxi service and recommended multiple hits , including La Foundouk, Café de la Poste and Chez Pascale. All were fantastic! She also arranged airport transfer and a day-trip to the Ourika Mountains and Setti Fatma.
Beautiful décor and attention to detail, stylish and chic, yet - low-key, comfy and relaxed. Impeccably clean, with Wifi, and Ipod docks. What’s not to love? We will be back!

I exhaustively researched Riads in Marrakech and was ecstatic with our final choice. Great value for money, exquisite decor and personalised service. We stayed for 3 nights at the end of November as a special treat for my husbands 40th birthday.

We organised the taxi transfer with the Riad when we booked (highly recommended) and were delighted upon arrival at the Riads door with a friendly greeting of mint tea and pastries by Elizabeth and John. We were amazed when Elizabeth then took us on a familiarization tour of the souks. Very useful and put any anxieties of the culture shock at rest. The souks are quite intimidating, which adds to the overall mystique of Marrakech but we certainly never came across any trouble.

It was also very useful to get recommendations for what to do and eat. We would highly recommend booking in advance the tajine dinner available in the Riad for your first evening. Another unmissable dining experience is at the close by restaurant of La Fondouk. (One of the best restaurants we have ever been to.) We made a good decision to not go to a Morroccan dinner/show restaurant but chose to go to the Kosybar instead and would highly recommend this place also, for both atmosphere and quality of food.

We very much enjoyed the shopping, people watching and chilling out available in Marrakech. We will definately be going back to stay with Elizabeth an John at Raid Elizabeth and would not hesitate to recommend their wonderful Riad to everyone.

We stayed at the Riad in November and had a lovely holiday. We were collected from the airport and had mint tea and pastries on arrival at the Riad with the owners John and Elizabeth. We were then shown to our rooms which were very nicely decorated in a modern way with traditional touches, with fresh flowers and rose petals spinkled around. There are individual thermostats in all of the rooms so although the riad is open it is necver cold in your room.

Later Elizabeth took us through the souks to the main square and made sure we could all get ourselves back to the Riad. and provided us with a map (more detailed than any you can buy or pickup). The riad is not very far to the souks or square and I wouldn't say that the Riad is in a dodgy area as some people have commented. Obviously if you are out of your normal environment you become more aware of your surroundings and are more catiuous but we never had any problems and never felt threatened at all.

John and Elizabeth were very welcoming, offering lots of advice about where to visit, recommending and organising restaurant reservations which we would probably not have visited otherwise and organising taxis to anywhere we wished to go. John and Elizabeth have a number of regular taxi drivers so we always felt safe and Mohammed (taxi driver) would mostly walk you round the corner to the entrance of the riad so not being able to park right in front of the door was never a problem.

Overall the Riad is a lovely place to stay, a relaxing retreat in the madness of Marrakech! The roof terrace provides a nice place to spend the day in the sun if you decide you want a lazy day and the rooms are very comfortable. The food, breakfast and dinner are both really nice. Breakfast consisted of tea and coffee, fresh fruits salad and fruit juice, lots of different breads, patsies and pancakes and a variety of jams, butter and honey. Definetly more than enough to set you up for the day. Dinner was delicious tajine and cous cous. John and Elizabeth and the girls that work at the riad were more than accomodating and did everything possible to make our stay as happy as possible.

We would definetly reccommend the Riad, not just for the decor and comfort but also for the invaluable advice and service that John, Elizabeth and staff provide.

There was a problem with my original posting, so let me repeat it here again: t(his repeated post refers to a stay about six weeks ago)

Had a way too short, but great visit at the Riad last week. The owners and the staff are real nice and very friendly. Even the young little cat is adorable…

Everything is new and comfortable.

For us a very nice touch was the rose-petals on the beds, the towels in the bathroom and even in front of the shower – a real welcome.

At dinner Elizabeth, like a true hostess, introduced another couple staying for dinner and us in the dining room, than took off to make sure everything is well at the kitchen – and it sure was. They presented a very nice meal, including some veggies we never heard of, but enjoyed very much. Our own mistake was to chose beer which is a rather forgettable experience in Moroc and not the wine.

Whatever Elizabeth and John are doing, they are doing well. Wishing very good luck to them. Recommend to anybody!
