Our trip to Marrakech was enjoyable and our spacious blue suite in the riad was a lovely place to stay. I could go on and on about the wonderful things that other reviewers have already mentioned, but I want to share some of the negative experiences we encountered.
It is impossible to find the riad on your own because once you arrive at Jemma el-Fna (via taxi or airport bus #19), most streets do not have a street sign, and you have to walk though the maze of souks and alleyways to find it. The riad itself doesn't even have a sign saying "Riad Sacr" - it just says "RS 120" and you are supposed to know you have reached your hotel from that.
Do not follow the printout from Google Maps to the riad because it is incorrect. This is what we used but the information on the map is wrong and we got very lost in the souk and had to ask a local for directions. At first, he seemed very friendly and looked like he had a better idea of which direction to take... until he started asking for directions himself! Anyway, he eventually found the riad and when we tipped him for his troubles, he complained the tip was not enough and demanded more money - so please be aware!
Not sure if the riad offers an airport transfer service where someone personally meets and greets you at the airport to take you back to the riad, but if they do, I would definitely recommend this option! Also, the city map from our host is not a very detailed map.
Other tips -
Arriving: Airport bus #19 to Place Jemma el-Fna. As you depart the airport from the main entrance, the bus stop is located after the taxi rank on your left. Single journey: 20 Dirhams. Return journey: 30 Dirhams. Frequency approx. every 30 mins, less frequent on weekends.
Departing: If you are travelling via Ryanair with a pre-printed boarding pass, you still have to queue up at the check-in desk to ensure that your documents have been checked by staff before proceeding to the departure gate (they will stamp your boarding pass for verification), otherwise, the security officers will not let you through.
Taxis: ALWAYS haggle your price - wherever you go. Airport to city centre should not cost more than 60 Dirhams. Please note: Night fares are usually doubled (even for locals).
Internet: Free wi-fi.
