Riad Souafine

This is a riad that the is listed in riadsmorocco.com under the unforgettable category. Though it is a lovely riad, I would categorize a slightly lower category - deluxe. This should not be regarded as a negative, but only as a more accurate star rating of the riad. Great service - homely and superb food.

I travelled to Fes with a group of female friends and Jelal, Bernard and the staff at Riad Souafine couldn't have been more friendly and welcoming. We had a really wonderful trip, and were sad to leave our new friends!

"Classy" would you speak of the Riad or of Hassan's cooking. Very quiet for a tired businessman. Well serviced although very discreet and tips on how to get where you want to go either in terms of visit, souk exploration or trips around Fez.
Very good balance in terms of cost/benefit

This was our first visit to a Riad and it was a terrific experience --- the Riad Souafine is well located and is very attractive. The rooms, the staff, the food, and the general atmosphere are outstanding. The roof deck is wonderful at sunset for a drink and a view of the medina. We decided to eat at the riad several times and that was not a mistake --- the food was wonderful and saved us the worry about getting lost at night in the alley's of the medina. We would highly recommend this riad to anyone who wants a relaxing and attracTive place to stay in Fes.

Thanks Bernard for a wonderful stay --Stuart Conant --Manchester MA USA

I stayed in Riad Souafine back in Feb 2010 when I was touring Morocco. Not only was Fez the most impressive city in my tour, but this Riad was the most impressive I have been to! The rooms were huge (all suites) and meticulously restored just 2 years ago. The quality was excellent. The service was superb. The food was divine. Moreover, you have the attentive care of the owner who lives on the premises. In short I felt welcomed as a guest rather than a client. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to experience the lovely city of Fez. The view from the rooftop is amazing. The Chef Hassan also makes very good food! The hotel might be pricey compared to others in Morocco, but this Riad is worth it and excellent value for money. Also, it's affordable if compared to any 5 star hotel in Europe. What you'll get here is better than 5 stars!

A warm, genuine welcome from Bernard, Hassan and Jalal set the scene for an unforgettable stay in this elegant and comfortable house, where the soft sound of the fountain and the song of the birds in the courtyard calmed and soothed the senses. We were made to feel immediately at home, and though Fez is attractive and fascinating, it was always a joy to return to Riad Souafine after an outing and be cocooned in those serene and hospitable surroundings.

Nothing but praise for this Riad, from top to bottom.
Elegant character, considerate, tasteful and unique (the host is clearly a keen and sensitive admirer of art-deco), friendly and respectful service. It's located a little way from the heart of the Medina ( towards Ziat, a green neighbourhood of Fes Medina, but still only a five-minute walk from the bustling R'Cif) so it doesn't feel claustrophobic, there's room to breathe and relax - in fact there's oodles of space, in the room (I stayed in Zineb, very comfortably and for less than the average price quoted on this page), on and around the patio, and on the magnificent roof-top terrace (great views naturally). It was a real pleasure to spend time in the hotel, Mr.Pelay has a good team around him - and i ate exceptionally well courtesy of the chef Hassan.
I've visited Fes several times, stayed in some Riads, visited and eaten in others. If I go back I'd not hesitate in staying here.
