Description: The cafe/restaurant is in the ruins of a courtyard house in the ancient imperial city of Fez. (Some signs will direct you downhill to us from Batha, though many guys on the street will tell you we are closed!, we are open 1300 to 21.30 every day, except for the middle 2 weeks of July) Serving street foods, cakes and pastries, fresh juices (eg watermelon or cucumber & mint or date and orange blossom milk) and Modern Moroccan lunches & dinners (Beef & Almond Kefta, Spiced onion tart, changing dishes of the day) (Also 7 hour lamb 'Mechwi' to be ordered in advance) The emphasis is on fresh local produce. When it is hot there is shade and sun hats, when cold or wet there is a salon with a log fire looking out into the garden, though when wet reservations essential and during high seasons (Christmas, Easter, May & October) We are situated 5 minutes from Talaa Seghira and the same distance from Batha. * No alcohol I am sorry to say * We offer a free escort service to and from your accommodation within the medina, though call in advance to arrange this. A couple of notes - All tips and gratuities go to the staff & there are cats living in the Medina of Fez, they are stray and are pest control for the city, please do not feed them in the garden. We feed them in the street outside and make sure they have water, as do all Fez residents.

Fabulous food in a lovely setting. It was beautifully clean and the staff were helpful and friendly. Sardine sandwiches were SO good we just had to go back for more! the sour lemonade was absolutely delicious.

“Excellent Food Marred by a Cold Room”
Reviewed January 25, 2014

I had a very pleasant meal at this restaurant but the overall ambiance was spoilt by the coldness of the room. Many diners were wearing coats and some were complaining of the cold. Admittedly it was January but the one log fire and non functioning gas heater were inadequate. Service was a little on the slow side and whilst a guide was provided to navigate us the to the venue he was not sent until 30 minutes after the time requested. On the positive side the food was attractive, tasty and nicely spiced to give an elegant take on traditional fare at very reasonable prices.

Thank you for your thoughts, it was a pleasure to serve you and I can only say sorry again about the rubbish gas fire, we have now a new rather delux one that does not keep going out on us. If you are back in this part of the world do return as my guest. Kind regards Robert.

“great oasis of greenery and good food in the medina”
Reviewed January 19, 2014

- Super evening here. Wish I had found it early in my trip so I could eat there again. The ambience was great. In speaking with Robert (owner) I learned it was intentional. He wanted to create a living, flowing green space in what he called the otherwise static greenery of the medina. He knows quit about architecture and was involved in reclaiming the structure and getting his vision into the final look of the place. It is elegant. Do you self a favour and seek him out for a five minute chat - he is a super interesting guy. We dined on a cool rainy night and ate in the indoor portion of the restaurant which included a beautiful and warm fire. Would like to go back and eat outside sometime. The main course was certainly good but the place really distinguished itself by its chocolate mouse dessert. I hadn't found any really good chocolate in Fes prior to this and we were thrilled by it.
