Description: The cafe/restaurant is in the ruins of a courtyard house in the ancient imperial city of Fez. (Some signs will direct you downhill to us from Batha) Serving street foods, cakes and pastries, fresh juices (eg watermelon and date and orange blossom milk) and Modern Moroccan lunches & dinners. The emphasis is on fresh local produce, some of which is grown in the garden. When it is hot there is shade and sun hats, when cold or wet there is a salon with a log fire looking out into the garden, though when wet reservations essential. Situated 5 minutes from Talaa Seghira and the same distance from Batha. No alcohol I am sorry to say. We offer an escort service to and from your accommodation within the medina, though call in advance to arrange it.

“Great food, service and setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 9, 2014

The Ruined Garden.

Simply the best meal I had in Fes. Set in a beautiful secret garden location in the heart of the Fes medina the ruined garden was fantastic. The setting, service, and food were all exceptional and great value for money. I had the fish soup and the bream and both were gorgeous. My companions had the kefta and the artichoke tagine and the clean plates were a testament to the quality of the food. I will be eating there again on my last night in Fes.
A big thank you to Robert and his great staff.

“Great dinner at the Ruined Garden”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 6, 2014

I love Morocco and Moroccan food, but it does get repetitive - the same old dishes over and over again. Surely the Moroccan tourist authority can put some effort into encouraging some variation in menus (helpful hint from me)

So the Ruined Garden really provided a surprise of Moroccan inspired cuisine that dared to stray from routine tagines, brochettes and omlettes. Here I tasted perhaps the tenderest chicken I ever had in a slightly minty, cumin/termeric sauce/marinade, and a delicious meatball in a rich sumptuos gravy dish that put pretty much every other tagine I ever had to shame. Just a bit of creativity is all it takes.

Great staff, with a great attitude, and a wonderful ruined garden to relax in and eat, with lots of atmosphere. This was the best dinner on our trip so far. And we loved the ginger cat with his tongue sticking out. Thanks for a great night out Ruined Garden team, we'll be back.

“Great Atmosphere!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 5, 2014

We stumbled across The Ruined Garden and had a late lunch. We liked our food and appreciated the slightly different twist on Moroccan food (after being in Morocco for 10 days). The atmosphere is great. We cozied up next to the fire on the cold winter night and were comfortable. The owner and staff are very helpful and all speak english. Additionally, they had WiFi which we took advantage of since we did not have it at our Riad.

“Peaceful spot, must try the cheesecake!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 4, 2014

We first stumbled upon here in the afternoon and stopped for a drink and a quick snack. Later we returned for diner by the fire which was one of my favorite meals in Fes. The vege tagine with aoli and artichoke was very warming on a cold night and the portions were huge. The next day we returned and I opted for a smaller snack followed by coffee and the best ricotta cheescake I've had!

“Good atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 1, 2014

Enjoyed the food, which as others say is Moroccan with a twist.
Ate there twice. It is cold outside in winter so either book early or wrap up warm!
It did spit with rain on one night and it would be helpful if the owner had a plan for this.
Is it not possible to put up umbrellas.
Ate outside once and inside once. Atmosphere better outside in the garden.
Had Kefta and svenge for mains, both good. Desserts excellent. Soups also very good.
