“A home away from home”
Reviewed April 30, 2013

From the moment the delightful enthusiastic and informative Australian manageress Aisha/Sue welcomed me into this superbly restored Riad, I felt at home. What a glorious place, Hicham, the owner, has created! Love and care has been infused into every detail and it certainly shows; it just about exudes from each intricate piece of carving. As for the staff, they became my family, especially the smiley Lahcen. Naima and Fatima-Sara in the kitchen are just gorgeous! All meals are available, if desired, and Mama Fatima's cooking is the best in Fes, especially her chicken tajine. Hicham's brother, Salim, also cooks a mean tuna pasta and I am SO having withdrawal symptoms from all the exotic tastes and aromas.
Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and Aisha, being a mine of information, will organise trips and drivers for wherever you want to go. Also, she conducts artisan tours which are really worth taking. You will see what are becoming dying crafts in Fes.
Try and be there for the Fes Sufi Festival which is usually about second week of April. Also, there is the World Music Festival in June, but book well ahead because most accommodation sells out quickly.
I stayed at Riad Rcif from 11th April until the 20th and have never had a holiday where I felt so relaxed and was happy to laze about like I did. I didn't want to go home and am already planning for next year's Sufi Festival and stay with my affectionate 'Moroccan family'.

Room Tip: The Fatima Suite upstairs where I stayed is roomy, cool and quiet, a perfect place to escape. The sa...

In summary, we left feeling we'd had a 5* holiday experience at 3* prices.

All aspects of the stay were fantastic. All areas of the riad are visually stunning, comparable to the most beautiful medersas and mosques we visited. Furnishing are opulent. We stayed in some lovely restored riads during our Morocco trip, but this end result from a 6-year restoration project was another level again.

The front of house service was easily the best received during our trip. Aiesha was very welcoming, always available (which you might expect from a hotel, but not from a riad/B&B), full of spot-on recommendations, and very helpful in organising an official tour guide (a half-day walking excursion comes highly recommended upon arrival into Fes), an early morning airport taxi, and evening dinner. We're used to organising our own itineraries, so this extra service really gave us a rare opportunity to relax, and was much appreciated.

The live-in Moroccan family who otherwise run the riad, were also very friendly. It's worth noting the riad offer a restaurant service (pre-order required), with food cooked by the family Mama. The price is moderate when comparing to the overall Fes restaurant/cafe scene, and comes recommended. The food was plentiful (we didn't get close to finishing everything), and a lovely way to enjoy the sumptuous riad if you don't feel like getting back out into the mazy streets at night time. Unsurprisingly, good and plentiful also describe the breakfast.

Although the riad appears to be quite tucked away through several intimidating alley ways, the map provided directed us without any problems from Place Rcif (about a 3 minute walk away). Place Rcif is very central in the medina and where the majority of tourist sights are clustered. Place Rcif is also very well signposted throughout the medina - which in hindsight is a bigger benefit than you might imagine if you haven't visited Fes before (i.e. you will get lost)!

This is a 5* riad in every way, offering exceptional value, and should be on anybody's Fes accommodation short list.

Room Tip: We had a very well aerated deluxe double room, tucked away from the main riad courtyard providing us...

Really incredible place. They were booked out the nights we were in town but the Riad manager organised alternate accommodation for us! So sweet! We ate dinner here a couple of nights and felt really welcome. The food is stunning, a bit pricey but you get heaps of food and wonderful hospitality.

Stepping into Riad Rcif after the 3 hr drive from Casablanca & the dash through the labyrinth of the medina in the rain - grasping the hands of my 7 & 9 yo boys - I finally relaxed. What a warm and wonderful place to have as our anchor whilst we stayed for 6 days. The staff at the Riad make the difference. Aisha (Sue from Australia) knows what we tourists need at all times & makes sure that the wonderful Lusen, Salim, Fatima & Hicham deliver a really authentic Moroccan experience. We felt like family and nothing was too much for the team. Make sure you have a Ham-man & massage - our boys loved the experience. The upstairs terrace was a wonderful spot to waste some time at night over a glass of wine after dinner. Thanks so much to all of you - We will definitely be back!

Room Tip: All rooms open up into the inside & so are a little dark. There is one room that has windows to...

From the moment we were dropped off in the heart of the Fes medina and taken through the winding alleys to the front door of Riad Rcif, we knew we were in for an exceptional experience - and we were not once dissapointed. Completely understand why our lovely fellow melbourne girl Aisha deceided to stay! From our well appointed and exceptionally beautiful rooms, to delicious traditional evening meals and breakfasts.. live/impromptu entertainment one evening... and a surprise birthday cake on my birthday - and impressive and once in a lifetime experience. Thank you to one and all at Riad Rcif for a most memorable stay and taste of Fes.

I spent four nights (March 2013) at Riad Rcif which sits in the heart of the old city and absolutely loved it. I was made to feel at home straight away. Sue/Aisha organised an excellent guide who showed me around Fes, this took most of the day and it was a good way to be introduced into this amazing place. I was a female travelling on my own and they really looked out for me. The Riad itself has been beautifully restored. The roof terrace was wonderful and I spent many hours simply being able to appreciate where I was. The Riad is family run, Hicham and Salim (brothers) were welcoming and helpful. Their mother Fatima is a wonderful cook. I happily ate there every night and really enjoyed her home cooking. My room was well equipped and most importantly the bed was comfortable. The lighting in the bathroom and room could have been brighter. If you are looking for a friendly, relaxed and comfortable base to explore Fes this is thoroughly recommended.
