“fez medina”

You could get lost for days in the markets and hidden passageways of the old walled city in Fez. If you look like a tourist, you'll have touts following your for most of the way, but you never know -- you might need their help just to find your way back out again! We hired a guide, but in the end don't think we really needed one. If you have a good sense of direction and an adventurous spirit, you can explore on your own. Don't miss seeing the patios choc-a-block with colorful pots of dye where leather is colored.

“Fantastic place for a wander and a haggle”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 5, 2013

I love the Fez Medina; I'm staying at a hostel in the medina, but my favorite part of the medina is near the Bab Boujeloud gate. You can find everything here-- food, fresh vegetables, meat and fish, not to mention everything else you could ever want: traditional shoes and clothes, jewelry, tagines and other ceramics, leather goods of all kinds...whatever you need, you can find it here. There are also lots of little food stands and cafes nestled into the stalls and parts of the medina, in case you need a snack.

I was amazed at how much there was to see here. Pick a direction and wander for a while, and you're sure to find something interesting. I found it was best to walk quickly and with a purpose, because as soon as you slow down to really look at something, the shop owners start in on you, and it's hard to break away.
