“Beautiful hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 29, 2013

We stayed here as part of a National Geographic tour of Morocco. Fes was our final destination, a very interesting city. The hotel staff were very helpful and accommodating. We ate in the French restaurant two nights and the Moroccan restaurant one night, which I missed because I was ill. We enjoyed our dinners at the hotel. There was a beautiful pool, but we did not have time to use it. We would gladly stay here again.

This hotel has a wonderful location overlooking the Medina. Beautiful grounds with a heated swimming pool. The service is very good. However, our room was dimly lit and the bathroom plumbing needs refurbishing. The breakfast buffet is good, but not spectacular. The air conditioning was not working. The rooms could use a major updating.

The location of this hotel is perfect. It is on the edge of the Medina and then it is easy to access if you are driving. The grounds of the hotel have an isolated feeling while in the heart of it all. The staff are always there to meet your every need. The only two issues is that there is no room service, while there is no coffee machine in the room. The other issue is seasonal - Do not have join them for their idea of a Christmas eve dinner, it is not worth the $$ and they do not know how cook western style food.

My wife and I spent 3 days at this splendid hotel. We had a suite that overlooked the Medina. The rooms were palatial and spotless. The Hotel had2 restaurants, the Moroccan one had a fantastic ambience with food to match. The French restaurant was mediocre by comparison. The Hotel also had a beautiful spa and outdoor pool. The service was impeccable at all times.

Room Tip: Ask for a Junior Suite, its worth the price.

The public spaces -- the bar, lobby, lounge, restaurants -- are all absolutely luxe and gorgeous and a wonderful pleasure to sit and spend time in. Wifi nonexistent in our room, but since the public spaces are so good, this was not a problem. This is the kind of hotel you want to spend time sitting in, people watching, and enjoying the environment. The service was also excellent.

Our room had that 'old building' smell that sometimes comes from ancient plumbing or something -- we experienced this a lot in our month of traveling in Spain and Morocco, but for the price we were paying at this hotel I think they should take care of it somehow. We had to sleep with the balcony doors open all night in order to air out the room. Also, our toilet was leaking water onto the floor.

I really enjoyed my stay here, the staff were really good and I also managed to have one of the staff give me a tour of Fes which was an added bonus to what is a fantastic 5 Star Hotel, with the usual trimmings and extra’s that come with a hotel of this calibre.

Unfortunately my stay here was way to short as I spent just a couple of days and really can’t comment on it much as I didn’t have enough time of enjoying the fruits of what this place has to offer.

In general the place had a special mystique to it as it had a lot of the cultural aspects to it as their main theme, but one of the main advantages I found was that it was in the heart of Fes where the Old Medina was back of the hotel and the view was simply astonishing.

If there was a negative to it then it would be the breakfast that was offered, which was below par for Sofitel’s standards but I guess you can’t get everything you want.

The Swimming pool is to die for but I really couldn’t enjoy it much as my stay there was short as I came for my friend’s wedding and spent most of my time there.

My room was really bog standard 5 star offering but what lacked was the bathroom that was way basic that had nothing to offer.

Overall the hotel is a massive, the staff are very welcoming and also very hospitable. A rather expensive stay for what you get but I guess the reputation speaks for itself but will recommend the stay as it has the normal extra’s that makes you feel comfortable.

The hotel had an amazing set of staff, their level of service was outstanding, very polite, always happy to help. The breakfast was acceptable, but not the standards that I would of a Sofitel breakfast. Another small remark was, when we arrived we were greeted with Moroccan tea, but the cups that were used were very old and not the standard that I would expect of sofitel. Other than that, the rooms were very good, the view from the balcony on the sixth floor is amazing

Room Tip: try to get a room on the upper floors, the top floor is the sixth. The view of the city of Fes is am...
