As soon as you arrive here you realize it is a palais with a unique location and atmosphere. The rooms are decorated in style with the historic surroundings, yet modern and comfortable. The staff are all nice and in service. Have drinks on the bar teracce in the evening, overlooking the city! Ask in the reception to see the Royal Suite, a grandious quarter like a museum and part of the hotel where you can still stay,

I had read the mixed reviews here, so admit I was a little hesitant to book initially. I was very glad that I did though! From the minute I saw the view from our room, I was sold on it. The staff were extremely attentive and helpful- the hotel itself is a dream, beautifully furnished and ornate with beautiful tiled walls, ornaments etc. The room was spacious, the large bed probably the most comfortable I've ever slept in. The furniture maybe a little dated but pleasant nevertheless. The view from our balcony was incredible, I spent many an hour just sitting there (especially at dawn and dusk) just staring out over the medina and to the distant hills. We had paid in advance at a slightly reduced rate, but this certainly didn't affect the excellent service we received. We dined several times in the restaurant- the Moroccan restaurant was closed but they served local dishes in the 'international' restaurant (French influenced.) It wasn't cheap, but it was excellent as was the service. Similarly, breakfast isn't cheap but is nevertheless well worth it and the staff couldn't do more for you. Not only is the hotel a dream but so are the gardens, much larger than any of the pictures I'd seen would suggest. All in all, this was a fabulous stay- not cheap, but it is 5 star and deservedly so. We felt every penny was well spent and should we visit Fes again would definitely stay here! To be honest, the hotel stay was an important part of the holiday experience, and I don't always say that...

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony overlooking the Medina- we were on the third floor. You will of course...

I've been to the Palais Jamaï a couple of times and it is always a pleasure to return. Nice rooms, some overlooking the Medina of Fes, good service, a nice bar with a good pianist. I just love the atmosphere of the hotel in the ramparts of the Medina which can be reached in a five minute walk (take a guide, otherwise you'll never find your way back!).

This Hotel is very well located, and is very close to the famous Medina of Fes.The Hotel seems to be fairly old,but is very well maintained, and keeps the beauty of Islamic Arts.
Room,Elevator,Roof,Wall,Garden....all these are very well done in Islamic Art.We could have enjoyed the lunch/dinner/swiming pool etc,but one weakness seems to be with Breakfast. If we compare the breakfast of this hotel to other,it is very clear that the quality does not much the price they charge. But all in all, this is a very good hotel to enjoy FES.

This place is fantastic: great location, wonderful decor, a rich history of authors and artists who stayed here in the past. There didn't seem to be many guests when I was there but it must be one of the best hotels in Fes. Ideal for honeymoons and romantic weekend breaks. The only thing I didn't like was the abundance of news channels on TV and hardly any movie channels or Discovery Channel. Fantastically comfortable bed, like sleeping on a very firm cloud.

Checking into the Sofitel Palais Jamai en Fes after having spent a week at the world class La Mamounia was a real shocker.

Room

I reserved a very expensive suite which consisted of a sadly dated over sized room with an incredible view of the medina. The room had an early 1970's ran down motel-like feel to it. I almost expected shag carpet under my feet.

Ugly furnishings didn't help matters.

The coffee maker was very nice but vibrated the glass coffee cups right off the table only to break on the marble floor.

The Hermes toiletries were a genuine luxury and a nice touch. Ditto for the large welcome plate of dates and fruits.

The room was intolerable. In early April the heating wasn't necessary but airconditioning was. I like to sleep in a very cool room. The airconditioning central chiller for the hotel was not turned on so my suite had no airconditioning. This necessitated opening up the balcony doors and requesting a fan from reception.

This resulted in my listening to dogs barking all night followed by the very early call to prayer. While the call to prayer around 5 AM was hauntingly beautiful it wasn't a welcome wake up call after a sleepless night of listening to dogs barking.

Simply dreadful. One of the worst hotel experiences ever.

Concierge

Upon arrival I requested a guide for the medina. The concierge referred me to an elderly gentleman sitting in the lobby. The tour was awful and the elderly guide was only interested in leading me into commission paying shops. A waste of time and money.

Front Desk

Rude and ineffectual would be an apt description.

Dining

I only experienced room service breakfast which was adequate and one simply ghastly dinner. The food was awful and the ambiance of the dining venue was dreadful. It was in the old palace part of the hotel and while the dining venue was beautiful it had a nerve wracking ambiance with tables facing directly into other tables. As a solo diner it was extremely uncomfortable. Food was average and over priced.

I was scheduled to spend four nights in Fez. I had to leave after two nights because I couldn't tolerate another moment of the Sofitel Palais.

To add insult to injury it was a non-refundable rate and the Sofitel billed me for all four nights at over EURO 350 per night.

Avoid this hotel at all costs. There must be far superior options available in Fez!

Room Tip: Rooms are dated - if you must stay here get a view of the Medina
