We did the Fez Medina full day tour with Plan-It-Fez and was so glad with did it with them. Our local guide Farida Chaaibi was very knowledgeable and speaks English fluently. She lives in the Medina herself so for us, she offers the very best perspective. Her views offered us a good glimpse of the kind of life in this part of the world, especially for women. She really explained everything - from how the medina was built, how life was and down to the very detail that went into the walls of riads. She took us to different shops to see artisans' work but she emphasized that we are not obliged to buy nor tip anyone of them. We wanted to buy a local SIM to use in Morocco and she helped us do that as well, which took an hour extra Since the medina is huge, we had to take a cab once in a while to get from one part to the other. We had to pay for that but I appreciate that very much because I didn't want to walk that far when I could be spending that time in more interesting areas of the medina. Our tour ended during the busiest time of the day so we had trouble finding a cab. Being a local, Farida was able to talk to a private driver to give us the ride for a fee - that was very convenient. The one thing I was not used to with Plan-it-Fez is the email communication. I am used to receiving email within 12 to 24 hours but with Plan-it-Fez, it is sometimes takes longer than that but they do reply. I would definitely recommend them.

Definitely a good call to take a guided walk of this labyrinthine Medina - especially if you only have 1 day in Fes like us...timely pick up from the Riad, mix of quick drop offs in a car as Fes is quite large and then walks and visits of the Mellah, Medina and all of the main monuments with all fees included (excl lunch). Knowledgable tour guide & full day's activity from 09h00-17h00. Only small personal note, lots of stops with option to buy things - I'm sure lots of people would love that and our guide certainly put no pressure to purchase anything - but some of the stops were a bit lengthy and it got a bit wearing but that's just us - souks are certainly part of the Morrocan experience!

The Cous-cous rolling and Olive Oil excursion may not be an obvious choice for a day-trip from Fes but it is most certainly an AMAZING opportunity. If you are excited by engaging with the local people and learning about their day-to-day lives, outside of the standard tourist attractions, then this is absolutely worth your time. Our driver and guide for the day were lovely and extremely knowledge. Their language skills were flawless and they made us feel completely at ease at all times. The excursion allows you to sit with a group of absolutely endearing women who are happy to show you their craft. We fell a little bit in love with them during our time there, and cannot thank them enough for welcoming us into their cooperative. Finally, the village of Ribat El Kheir, itself is located in completely picturesque settings and offer a perfect respite from the craziness of the Fes Medina itself. The day was a breath of fresh air all around.

For travelers on a budget, the excursion is definitely on the pricey side. Still I'd say that assuming some of the money goes towards helping the cooperative itself, makes it very much worth it.

My friend and I booked a tour with Gail because our boss, Mario Batali, raved about her medina tour. We figured that if he approved that it was surely worthwhile. She picked us up and we immediately appreciated her vibrant personality. she is eager to show you the market where she lives and works, and introduce you to the tastes and smells of this ancient culture. My favorite part was the honey sampling, but I also just enjoyed all the friendly smiles and welcomes we received just because we were with her. We ate lunch by picking out a few odds and ends and then sampled all our goodies over a bowl of soup. Not only was it educational, but it was just plain fun! We stayed in fez 2 days after the tour and still got waves and hellos just because of how we were introduced to the market. If you have the time to take a tour, don't think twice. Just do it :)

Travelling as a family with young children we used Plan-it Fez to organise our desert tour from Fez to Marrakech and also took a cooking class with them as well as a day out at Volubilis with a yummy gourmet picnic - all of which were wonderful experiences. Best of all they have great local knowledge and were able to answer all of our questions and made us feel at ease with the culture and surroundings. Highly recommend them if you're coming to Fez or Morocco.
