We loved the service received during our stay in Dar Mehdi. We were literally waited on hand and foot by everyone at the riad. Abou (our host) was fantastic - even running through the medina on our first night in fez looking for my husband who had managed to get lost!
We loved the constant supply of mint tea, and the breakfast and dinner was delicious.

Lovely place run by very friendly, helpful and hospitable staff. It's a pleasure to stay here. Calm, friendly, inexpensive, but real boutique hotel in a genuine ancient house. Rooms are not too spacious, but if you prefer cordiality and historic ambiance, that's you choice. What is rare in the medina, if you download a map from this site, you can find it yourself starting from the Bab Boujdloud, the principal gates of the old mediana. And for the second time you can find with no difficulty - a very important moment when you stay in the heart of a medieval oriental city. The ceiling in our room and big one opposite us (most probably in all rooms) was a wooden carved masterpiece any museum could boast. 15-20 meters from one of the two main market streets of the medina (also very important for orientation). We still remember this nice people with warmth and gratitude. If this tiny germ have been just a little more spacious (especially the bathroom), staying here would cost 2-3 times more. So don't take it as a disadvantage and appreciate staying in a genuine old Moroccan riad, very comfy and gorgeously decorated.

Located very near the Bab Bou Jeloud (Blue gate) the main entrance in the old Fes, when you enter just turn left and then first right in the Talaa Kbira street, after cca 200-300 meters on your left side you will see a little street named Derb Ben Salem, enter and folow the signs directing you to Dar Mehdi. This was one of the best places in all of Morocco we have stayed, the location is perfect, the place is very clean, the room we had was spacious, it had SAT TV, and the most important it had AC, breakfast is huge, four people would have a problem eating all of that and there was only two of us. But the best thing about this place are the people working there, ther are very pleasan, constantly offering you complementary drinks, trying to please you all the time but in a very discrete way. In short people working there were the best ones we meet in all of Morocco. Thank you Abu (and the rest of staff) for a very nice time.

Though it was located in the medina, it was easy to locate. The owner responded to my booking to call from the train station and he would meet me (but I did not check my email again to get this information!). The host spoke good English which was a big help to us in arranging a tour and understanding Fes. We had a midnight train out and we were not only able to leave our luggage, but since the room had not been rented, the host gave us access to the room and lounge and we were able to comfortably use Dar Mehdi as a base all day and into the evening. Definitely traveler friendly.

Fantastic experience. The best hotel crew ever. Very respectful, knowledgeable. Truly know how to take care of their guests. Can alter to any needs and wishes. Breakfast was very good quality and fresh. Make the best mint tea in Morocco. The dinner was delicious. Would come back again and again. THANK U / Shoukran bazzef

This Riad offers a great location, nice clean room and lovely staff. The family helped us with everything during our stay: taking us to the hammam and medina. The breakfast is amazing and so is the rest of the food.
There is no better place to stay in the busy, sometimes crazy medina of Fes!

Among all six places we stayed in during our trip to Morocco, this one was the best and the most "family-like". It is run by a lovely, warm family that was eager to help us with any problem we had and offered a smile at any time. You really appreciate this kind of friendliness. The house is an incredibly beautiful riad, with all the mosaics and carvings made personally by the owner and a small, cosy terrace at the top - perfect place to have your lunch during a sunny day. It is located in the heart of the medina, right between two main medina's paths. We visited the place twice and stayed in two different rooms, both beautiful, designed in morrocan style, and, what is the most important, very clean! Ladies were cleaning the rooms thoroughly every day. Prices are best you could get for this quality. Great place both for young travellers, like us, and families. If you want a taste of realMorrocan friendliness - this is a place for you!
