“Dinner dangerous”
Reviewed February 4, 2012

The Riad Layla has a nice decoration/style and the staff is friendly. However, some low points were remarked:
a) minors problems in the room (heater not functioning during one night in wintertime, problem in the room key and central lamp not working);
b) we checked out early in the morning, about 7 am, before the Riad's breakfast time. Differently from others riads we stayed in Morocco, when we had to leave early as well, we were not offered at least a simplified breakfast. This low point is not considered an error in the Riad's procedures, but it was seen a sort of minor lack of courtesy compared to others riads; and
c) the most important point that influenced decisevily the final evaluation – I and my wife had a gastroentiritis because of the food served during the dinner at our last night in the Riad. The dinner was expensive (25 euros per person) in relation to the Moroccan restaurants, but the food was not well conserved. This fact spoiled the following week of our travel, since we had health problems.

Excelent choice if you're planning to stay inside the Medina (Fez el-Bali). Easy to locate, due to the excellent location, it's easy to walk to the Bab Boujoloud, getting inside the Medina and visit the most important sites. The hotel is fully renovated, the staff is very friendly and polite. The only problem was the wi-fi connection, not very stable, and not working all times. Recommended!

Renovated Riad with a great atmosphere and friendly staff. This Riad has a beautiful and detailed decor. Large rooms. Beautiful view from the rooftop over Fes. Nice breakfast, served at the rooftop. The location of the Riad is great, since its located the meddina but not in the middle of it.

Stayed here for 2 nights in October.

Picked up by the Riad's driver at the train station and escorted to the Riad. Walking in to the lovely, peaceful surroundings was wonderful after a 7 hour train ride.

Our room was on the first floor and was extremely spacious. Well decorated and clean, with lovely comfortable beds and excellent sheets!

Excellent rooftop terrace with a good breakfast served in the mornings.

Ate at the other riad owned by Patrick, which is just around the corner, and has a great courtyard area for eating. Delicious dinner, which we recommend for the peacefulness and ease compared to the busy and hazardous medina!

We were picked up again and driven to the airport by the same driver. Everything went very smoothly and we enjoyed our time in Fes.

Note: Had a guided tour of the medina with Mohammed (arranged through the riad), who was helpful and informative. At first we weren't sure that we needed a guide, but the medina in Fes is something much different to Marrakech and we would have got very lost very quickly and missed a lot without Mohammed.

The riad is great. The rooms, the patio, the stuff and of course its place in the medina are all exceptional. The breakfast fantastic. Stephen -the owner- is very kind and always willing to help!! Really nothing negative to mention. Don't think about it!! Make a reservation now!!!
