if you go to fez then you cant avoid this gate, because most of the riads are near this gate and taxi, grand taxi, buses all comes here, 'blue gate'.its here where most of the resturants are and at this gate starts the famous road - 'Tala kabira' and Tala Saghira'.Smell of food around this area, especially evening, is excellent.

Spend 20 minutes drinking a coffee or a mint thea, while looking at this main gate to the Medina.
the gate is beutiful. Skip guides.
After that...start surfing in the Medina!

This formidable entrance to the city of Fez has stood for several centuries and is still as formidable as it must have been in the years gone by.

With it's unique shaped arches it marks the entrance to the Medina. Just beyond the arch are several wonderful eating places serving local cuisine.

The arch is very nicely adorned on both sides, green on one side and blue on other other. Small market in front of it.

Probably the most common entrance to the medina. We explored the medina on our own but entered from Bab er R'cif (south east corner) and made our way back to Bab Bou Jeloud. We found this to be less busy and Bab er R'cif is also close to the tanneries and Seffarine Place (copper). Bab Bou Jeloud is very busy once you enter - lots of restaurants and shops.
